Favorite Lindsey Solo Studio Album
Since it's been a while since Seeds We Sow was released, I though it would be fun to do a new poll of Lindsey's solo studio albums now that we've had a chance to really listen to the new album and compare it to his previous releases. So pick your favorite studio album and leave a comment explaining what you like about it or why it's your favorite

I need some time to think about it but it could be any of them. If you'd asked me a couple of years ago I'd have said "anything but L&O" (which I liked but didn't love) but now I'd even include that. Perhaps UTS has slipped a bit...
I've a real soft spot for GI but OOTC is pure Pop perfection and GOS/SWS are great, especially as a pair... I'll have to get back to you. |
GOS. The choice is an obvious one even though the CD mastering is way too loud and adds an unnecessary digital sizzling to the harder rocking songs.
I tried taping this for the old car but the tape went apart during recording: the magntic forces due to the loudness were just too much for it. |
No questions: Out Of The Cradle.
I always say it, but every song, every intro, words and music, are excellent. Ok, maybe we can talk about his departure, and that he used "old material" to make some of the songs for the abum, but we can't deny that he used it perfectly!! Then, one little vote to Law & Order, and Go Insane, my second favourite. |

I really enjoy the fact that all of the albums are completetly different from eachother (except SWS).
L & O to Go Insanse totally different journey, then to OOTC, sounds like a totally different artists etc. SWS is probably the exception, because when I listen to that I feel like I'm listening almost to a Greatest Hits album, with completetly new songs. It's a reshasing of old sounds, and ideas, from all of those eras but with new songs. I know I'm in the minority, but it pains me when I hear negatives about UTS, not that it's the best he has done, but certainly find it to be a complete album focusing on a certain mood. But again I know I'm one of the few that can put that on and listen to it all the way through and be excited. Top to bottom though it's probably GOS for me. |

When those 3 preview songs debuted (Show You How, CAD, It Was You) I played them 1000 times before the album was out and then glorified in the LP as a whole. I don't feel that excitement about it any longer, but I respect it immensely and I still place Show You How among Lindsey's top 5 songs. Michele |

so without a second thought it's Seeds We Sow for me. not a bad song on it, and majority are fantastic - In Our Own Time, That's The Way That Love Goes, Rock Away Blind, Seeds We Sow (electric!), Gone Too Far..... plus it's the only album that came out since i became a fan, and i've heard first 6 songs live months before it came out. when i listened to the live versions on Songs from the Small Machine last week, first time in a while, it felt like being in Saban again, hearing them for the first time, and realizing that LB still got it as a songwriter! :] (with my usual caveat - i'm not sure whether or not SWS would keep its first place on my list if the original GOS2001 was released.) |
I can't decide between OOTC and GI. My third fave is definitely UTS. Cast Away Dreams is my very favorite of Lindsey's more recent solo songs.
|
OOTC is my my favorite. I listen to that album all the time. Even in the digital age, it's just one of those albums that I will listen to from beginning to end and never skip a song. I love the instrumentals, gorgeous. Beautiful lyrics. I just cannot live without Street of Dreams or Soul Drifter.
That being said, Cast Away Dreams and Shut Us Down are two of my favorite LB songs ever - so, maybe UTS is my second favorite album. |
It's still Go Insane, but SWS, GOS and L&O are close...
|
Out Of The Cradle is Lindsey's masterwork. It's just too bad that his original vision of Gift Of Screws wasn't brought to light...and was delivered in "bacon strips" instead of "whole hog".
To use the Brian Wilson comparison: OotC was Lindsey's "Pet Sounds" with the original GOS being his "Smile". And, the officially released GOS was pretty much a let down like the Smile that eventually got released. |
I remember running to the record store to buy Go Insane. I think it's simply brilliant.
|
Will always Be Out of the Cradle.
Just cause I like Lists:D 1. Cradle 2. Gift of Screws 3. Under the Skin 4. Law and Order. (Rediscovered this recently) 5. Seeds we Sow (Rehashed ideas mostly) 6. Go Insane (Headache Inducing) Mick |
The only thing of which I am certain is that SWS is at the very bottom. At this point, I can't decide.
|
Out of the Cradle and Under the Skin are my picks
|
OOTC, but SWS is only a smidgeon behind it!

I don't post much anymore, but if I did I would write what Chili wrote above. In 3 lines he captured everything I think about the pinnacle of Lindsey's solo work and where it was going and where it ended up. |
Out of The Cradle will always be #1 for me always...not sure about the rest of the order yet but this is #1 just wished he'd play more of it live too. Plus Lindsey still needs his own Box Set for his solo work too...its a shame we don't have one still...IMO anyway....:D

I love OOTC and GOS because they were the first ones i heard, but i got tired of them.
GI and UTS are harder to get into but also harder to get tired of because they are so unique, but of the two, UTS has the prettiest songs definitely. Nothing, except maybe for "Bel air rain", "Countdown" and "Treason", gets me more emotional than "Under the skin" and "Show you how". And "Shut us down". Never listened to Law and Order :/. And SWS is just plain boring to me, i got tired of it after 2 weeks so that's never a good sign. It has some excellent songs though (title track, "rock away blind), but most of it sounds forced to me, and...i don't know. Anyway it would go like that, these days : 1. UTS 2. GI 3. OOTC 4. GOS 5. SWS But really the first 4 are just excellent albums and OOTC is objectively the best. 5. |

My favorite album is Out Of The Cradle, followed by Seeds We Sow.
I'll post my reasons why when I'm not typing on my cell phone. |
OOTC. The other albums have ups and downs, but OOTC is the most consistently brilliant.

Although I would add that although the others have one or two downs, they mainly have ups! |

Every Album has songs I skip.....Even OOTC. Big Lindsey freak that I am...I say he's yet to make a perfect album. to me perfect=no skips. Just IMO.

so if i want to be completely honest, i do skip usually 1 track on SWS (Stars Are Crazy), and 1 track on GOS1 (Say Goodbye). but that's much less track skipping that OOTC or any other solo album for me. |
Every album of his has a song(s) that I normally will skip, too. OOTC has 1 and SWS has 1 well.

I think Out of the Cradle is the most over rated album in the fleetwood mac members whole combined catalogs. Do I dislike the album. No not at all. There are some great songs, wrong being my favorite. But every song just has this overbaringly slick feeling to them that I can't get past. So I like basically every song but don't love any. It's just incredibly mediocre and middle of the road to me.
I have to echo the feeling that the original gift of screws would've been his best solo album by a landslide if not his greatest collection of songs anywhere, his Tusk songs being the only competition. Since that never happened and those songs got sprinkled into say you will, under the skin and official gift of screws my favorite solo album is basically a dead even race between gift of screws and seeds we sow. Seeds we sow is Really in my mind his first truly all new album of the century since it doesn't use any of the old gift of screws songs, not counting she smiled sweetly. And there's so many great songs. One take may just be my favorite Lindsey song ever made.but there's about 4 songs I dislike a lot on SWS which isn't the case on GOS so I voted for GOS. It contains 3 of my 4 favorites from the original GOS Murrow being the 4th. And brand new songs great day and especially bel air rain, his best of his MANY Big love live like songs propell this album to the top. So to sum up that mess above my list would go: 1. gift of Screws 2. Seeds we sow 3. Law and order 4. Out of the cradle 5. Go insane 6. Under the skin |
