Petition to Induct Dave Walker

Not my petition (should have thought of it though) but obviously one that I fully support. We have had petitions over the years for Billy Burnette and Bob Welch so now it is time to sign the petition to induct "The Voice"!

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/563/2...onnect&fb_id=0

Sadly I'm sure it is destined to be as unsuccessful as previous petitions, but I still urge you to sign!

wetcamelfood 12-28-2012 09:36 PM

As I'm sure you figured I would Chris, I've signed but I'm not feeling optimistic about this (though, as I always like to do in these instances, I feel good now I've gone through the process so I won't always think after "maybe if I'd have signed, it might've made a difference (etc.)"). Fingers crossed though. :)

John

EDIT: Hmm, I came out twice, don't know how that can happen but we'll take any votes we can get on this I guess. :)

nailatixela 12-28-2012 09:52 PM

Only if they close every set with "The Derelict"

Yes I thought you might be the only one to appreciate this John!

If we can't get Bob Welch inducted, this is an exercise in futility. :sorry:

I agree, too. If any other Mac members deserves inducting, Bob Welch is that person.

Doesn't hurt to try, though.

Let us be honest, there are several who should be inducted:
  1. Bob Brunning
  2. Bob Welch
  3. Dave Walker
  4. Bob Weston
  5. Billy Burnette
  6. Rick Vito
  7. Bekka Bramlett
  8. Dave Mason

Oh yeah, half the damn band!

I disagree. Because not everyone played a pivotal role in the band's history. Brunning, Walker, Mason, and Bramlett(and I'm a HUGE Bekka fan) really didn't. They were only members during quick transitions. I probably wouldn't include Weston either, save for the fact that he was the guitarist on their best record! But Welch, Burnette, and Vito should definitely be inducted(in that order of importance).

Interesting that you think that Brunning has no pivotal role although he was a founding member?

damianip 12-31-2012 12:04 AM

I would definitely include Bob Weston, if for no other reasons than his playing talent and the way it really fleshed out the songs on Penguin and MtM.

If not for that unfortunate "entanglement" in 1974 who knows what would have happened.

What if he and Welch stayed? That seemed to be a nicely evolving musical partnership, and clearly the LP following his departure was not up to the standards set by MtM.

What if Welch had left and Weston stayed? A Weston/Buckingham guitar teaming might have yielded some great stuff (maybe not, but I imagine that if it would have worked, it would have worked VERY well).

chiliD 12-31-2012 01:29 AM

I think it's just appalling that the HoF can just basically pick & choose who from a band is inducted or not. I tend to lean toward Jerry Garcia's attitude (in more ways than one) that either the ENTIRE band membership is inducted or the band isn't inducted at all.

It's ludicrous that Donna Jean Godchaux is inducted into the R&RHoF, yet Bob Welch, Rick Vito & Billy Burnette are NOT! The HoF induction committee is just a bunch of pompous mother f***ers.

ONLY because McVie wouldn't join. The band was called Fleetwood Mac as a way to con McVie into quitting Mayall. Brunning wasn't a founding member so much as he was a temp.

Anyway, it could be argued that the recording session Mayall gave Green, where Green, Mick, and John recorded the song "Fleetwood Mac" was the actual birth of the band.

Thanks, Steve. It seems like those of us that have been in the FM community for a long time.....

Eh, it's not worth getting feathers up, arguing about it.

See Steve's comment. He was only a temporary leg, until John could be coerced into joining.

17 years in the FM online community now for me (although 10 of them weren't very active) :D

It still annoys me that those lesser members (and yes I know I was just being the devils advocate about Brunning :D) don't get the recognition they deserve. Rightly or wrongly they all (with perhaps Brunning's exception) contributed to albums, the sound of the band, the direction the band moved in and the future success (or continuation of that success).

I agree with everyone here that Welch and Burnette were glaring omissions for the HOF induction, but as a die hard Walker supporter I can not ignore his right (or that of the others) to be considered part of the band and a vital part of what it became. :sorry:

Well, by that, I meant Chili, Steve, David, and I, go back to the 90's, to "Usenet" newsgroups. There was a FM one, and that's where I first got to know them. God, has that REALLY been 16-17 -ish years ago???? FML.:p

David dragged me over here, when Usenet was losing traffic. I miss Usenet....I used to find the best free porn!!!:]:D:sorry:

Yes I to was from the old alt.music.fleetwoodmac (or whatever it was called) and the rec.whatever.stevienicks. yes it really was about that long ago - I was 22 I think and I'm 39 this year

Usenet is actually still going strong if you want pirated stuff or porn! lol

Well then you have my dated apologies....:p

My ISP still carries them(I think), but the last few times I tried to look at them(like 2-3 years ago), it insisted I have a password...I called my ISP for assistance, and they had absolutely NO F*CKING CLUE what "Usenet" even was!!!! #youngin's lol:o:mad::mad::mad:

The best way these days is to sign up to something like Usenext which costs I think about 8 or 9 Euro a month but then you can find lots of stuff especially in the music groups where occasionally I found stuff that I couldn't find elsewhere (out of print stuff etc).

Crazy to think how the internet has changed in the past 20 years. I remember doing a computer course back in the mid nineties and getting on the internet for the first time, discovering the CyberPenguin as it was then, and well the rest is history  Hell of a lot of things happened since then, but inducting Dave Walker into the HOF isn't one of them!

Yeah, me too. I believe it was David as well that dragged me over here. Still grateful for that.
Actually I wasn't bothered by porn. Guess they knew I wasn't interested in that. I was actually annoyed by all the cursing that was going on. No room for serious FM discussions.
By God..... 17 years since? In 17 years from now, I'll be 78 years of age. Don't know what I'll be like then, but Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac will still be in my heart.
As for Dave Walkers induction in HOF, I've never been aware of his part of the band, so no comments from me. Neither positive nor negative. :sorry:
Happy new year everybody.

I now remember your name from Usenet. Sorry that I forgot, before.

God, I the last thing I remember there, was this Stevie stalker, named(and I just sat and thought for about 10 minutes, until his name came to me) Bill Gamels*n. Absolutely BAT SH*T STALKER CRAZY. It seems like that's when the wheels were really starting to fall off the FM usenet. I remember checking, months later, and it was pretty much him, with a few others...:p

Also, remember James P. Nalbandia (JPN)?

SteveMacD 01-04-2013 03:36 AM

Was Bill Gamels*n the guy who tried to tell us that he thought "Spare Me A Little Of Your Love" was derived from "Give a Little Bit" by Supertramp???

I checked fairly recently (past year or two) and he'll still there (he's the only one there). Yeah I think I came towards the end of the newgroup, when it was getting ruined by Bill and other crazies. Eventually I gave up posting there and came over and lurked here for a while.

It was the same as it is here. I remember seeing his name, because it's so unusual(from an American's view).

Yeah, I also lurked (only) here, for a year or two. It seemed so cliquey here, that I was hesitant to jump in(yes, I was far more backwards, back then)...

Yeah, perhaps a little unusual name from an American's view. However, I did attend high-school at the American International School (AIS) in Vienna. Grades 7-11 before I returned to Holland in 1968. Seems like ages ago. :D
Saw Fleetwood Mac in Rotterdam 1969, march 1.

By the way, I remember being part of an early ledge, pre-messageboard, it was just a Chain of opinions, you had to click every post individually. not sure if I was on usenet (or was it the same?) It's possible, I remember lurking there, not sure if I ever subscribed and posted there.... Not under the shackin'up alias by the way. I guess just my real name, So something with gerald....
