Christine 2012 Comments

I rotated it, so that it would be upright, but for some reason it doesn't post that way.
She says they did World Turning and Don't Stop. What happened? Did they try to hide SYLM from her or has she repressed that memory? Also, she says she keeps in touch with John frequently, but Lindsey and Stevie, not so much. Why does she not mention Mick? Did she forget about him or is it just the opposite? Is she having an affair with him? They're both single for the first time, after all. She could have been pining for him all these years, just waiting for the right time . . . So, that's why she deliberately sidestepped the question of how often she she communicates with him:nod:. I'm on to you, Perfect. Michele |
LOVE IT!!! Thanks for posting it!!!

This made me miss her so much more. Love this interview.

Interesting comments about Bob's songs in light of comments/speculation in another thread after Bob's death about the fracture between him and the other members...there was lots of commentary about perhaps it was Chris who pushed back against him being included in the Hall of Fame...so was the speculation wrong, or is she being conciliatory since he's passed?
|
I am glad to hear her acknowledge Bob Welch's music and rank Mystery among her favorite Mac records. I think that may be the first time she's mentioned Bob in an interview (especially in a positive way) in over a decade.
|
She and Bob did some great work together. Wow, I really miss Christine McVie music!!
Thanks for posting.. :) |
Why is Christine interviewing in 2012 if she's not at least a little bit interested in coming back to the Rumours era fold? Wishful thinking? Hmmm...

Wonder if she'd be interested in cooking at Mick's restaurant.... And, there she goes again saying Stevie & Lindsey wrote together. Now, I wish she would stop blowing Stevie's story out of the water. Is it any wonder those bridges burned?? lol |

But yes, I think by any rational person's standards (and I've always found Christine very rational), you would say they wrote together. Stevie came up with lyrics and a melody and for all intents and purposes, Lindsey really wrote the music, at least, writing and arranging the instruments parts. It's really NOT much different than what did with Dave save for Stevie coming up with a chord progression, and supposedly she was never present while Lindsey finished her songs. So then I have to wonder what on EARTH were doing in the coffee plant until 3 am if all of her songs were already completed and they never sat there working on them together? She does seem to imply that they spent all of their time in the plant working on music. So what, did they each have a separate corner they sat in or something? But, I digress. |

Also, totally agree. Honestly, they did write together. Think about Carole King and Gerry Goffin. When they were writing together he wrote the lyrics and she wrote the music. That is how lots of musical partnerships work... Rodgers & Hammerstein, Rodgers & Hart, etc. Oh Stevie, I love you, but sometimes  :xoxo: Love this interview from Christine. As a teenager I was always drawn more to Stevie's voice, but as I've gotten older I've come to really appreciate Christine's music :) |
She has always considered herself a novice in most interviews. I disagree with her. Tunes like Show Me A Smile, Spare Me, Why, Come a Little Bit Closer, Prove Your Love, Heroes, Morning Rain, Homeward Bound, and even her covers and Chicken Shack material were really really good in my opinion.
I think she has great chemistry to mix with many kinds of muscians. She is and always will be a treasure in my book. |

She doesn't want to tour, but why would she be totally through with the band and its legacy? I don't know why she wouldn't want to talk about them, if it's for the right reasons. I mean, I don't think she wants to do an interview with US or TMZ, but if it's an entity she respects, it doesn't surprise me that she wouldn't mind discussing work of which she remains proud. She wiped her hands of touring, not of Fleetwood Mac. Michele |
Thanks for posting this Michele.
I agree with you. I think Christine will still talk about her time in the band sometimes. She is still represented in band decisions to do with "legacy material" and I assume the reference to hearing Rumours again in this interview is maybe to her listening to the anniversary material for the re-release? I assume she will do brief phone interviews but draws the line at tv stuff, as she didn't participate in the BBC's 2009 documentary which was fairly comprehensive. That did not surprise me. She maybe thinks with that sort of thing she would be more recognisable in public and also would have to make herself up etc and go under the spotlight. I'm pleased to hear from her, even if it was nothing new! |
Yeah I was hoping for a smidgeon of something new..

I'd love to hear her suggesting she might do another solo album but I think economics makes that idea difficult. I heard Mick had suggested she might contribute backing vocals or keyboard to a new Stevie song but I think that's just wild speculation on his part; I don't think she would want to (for fear of being 'dragged back in') nor would she necessarily be able to (given how out of practice she said she was when she made ITM). |

Interesting and CRAZY idea I had the other nite...so Chris was not interested in the band touring anymore after 97/98. Understood. Now Stevie is not interested in recording the band 2013. LB and MF has recently went on record numerous times to state they want to record. So, why don't they call up Chris (sans Nicks) and do just that. LB had no problamo w/o CM in 2003 at their side. Why not make some amends(not that they need to be amended) and say "Hey Chris, come work with us again". This could even turn into a small intimate tour of the UK, which I would be more than happy to watch on DVD....so long We have New Mac material, period! |

So, you don't have to smuggle Mitchell Froom in through the laundry basket Lindsey. All you have to do is pick up some flowers and a box of those cookies she likes and head to England . . . Michele |

On the recording idea, they've proposed that Christine do some additional stuff on a track once before, but I recall that when Mick suggested that in about 2002 it was wild speculation. In 2012 he mentioned it again, so again I think it's speculation. She would see it as possibly being hauled in and then pressure might be put on her to do a tour, and the others -- as they have said before -- would be concerned that if Chris participated in some recording but then didn't tour, that their marketability would be all the less, as the promoters would want the five who had contributed to the recordings, rather than a cut-down tour version of the band. Stevie said as much in the SYW media coverage. |

They go on tour with a new hit single, but it's Christine's, so they can't play it? |
i don't know how recent this pic is, but she looks great!
http://b1027.com/christine-mcvie-rec...ours-sessions/ Christine McVie Recalls ‘Rumours’ Sessions By Crash 1 week ago (Getty Images) Christine McVie came briefly out of retirement to talk about her work on Fleetwood Mac’s classic 1977 Rumours album. McVie, who quit the band in 1998, told Mojo that when Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined the band in late-1974, she immediately knew she had to step up her game, explaining, “When Stevie and Lindsey joined I was in awe of the way they wrote and sang together. It was tough to compete and be good enough. I wasn’t a prolific writer to any degree. I didn’t start writing songs properly until I joined Fleetwood Mac. I was quite a novice on (1972′s) Bare Trees and (1971′s) Future Games.” When asked if she was in touch with her former bandmates, McVie said: “I am in touch with (ex-husband) John (McVie) very often. Stevie and Lindsey not so often.” She spoke about the weird situation of finally catching a Fleetwood Mac concert as an audience member, joking, “I have a really good time when I go. I can stand at the soundboard and watch them sweat. They do my songs, ‘Don’t Stop’ and ‘World Turning,’ but they are limited to what they can do of mine. I think they tried ‘You Make Loving Fun,’ but I don’t think the sound of their vocals were right. But I wish them well.” In 2003 Christine McVie says that after attending a then-recent Fleetwood Mac concert in London, she had no regrets about splitting from the band and leaving the road behind: “I just felt kind of relieved, if you want to know the truth, ’cause I, I went backstage afterwards, and they were all so tired, and, I just don’t think I could do that anymore. It’s kind of, if you like, verified that I’d made the right decision.” Fleetwood Mac will release two expanded versions of Rumours on January 29th, featuring a remastered version of the multi-platinum collection, along with two discs of outtakes, and a new “making of” documentary. The band — featuring Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie — kicks off its 34-date North American tour on April 4th at Columbus, Ohio’s Nationwide Arena. |

Goodness, Chris is almost as bad about them being sooooo tired after a concert as Lindsey is with the bridges. I mean, they may be a little breathless, but they aren't falling down dead, especially if there is someone backstage with whom they want to socialize.
But this does remind me of an interview they gave around New Year's Eve in 2003, I think. It was right after a show. Lindsey was practically comatose. He and John stared like zombies and Stevie and Mick were giggling like idiots and holding each other, while the other two were completely oblivious. Mick kept saying, "we're not dead yet," but I wasn't quite sure. Hilarious. Michele |

maybe that's why LB's one man shows were so short? he needed to be less than comatose for all those m&gs he was doing, i guess so he doesn't say something he didn't intend to. :D  |

I must say that Chris is a class act and sold herself a little short when talking about "stepping up her game". Her songs were the ones that were radio hits! She's very humble and sensitive to her former friends/colleagues...it makes her even more endearing. my original post was intended (if an album would transpire) that Chris could do a few "one-off " shows in London and the surrounding areas...all filmed like "Dance". But I totally get her not wanting to be "lured back in" and the other members not being able to perform a "new" hit by her. Cheers to wishful thinking! |
