http://nickslive.blogspot.com.au/201...ingham-ft.html
This year keeps getting better! actually it's 3 tracks! |
Yum. This is terrific. THREE on a soundtrack. Wow. That's a first.
This will do better than Adele's Skyfall! Well, no, but we'll enjoy it just as much. Michele |
By Alex Hudson, November 8, 2012, Exclaim
http://exclaim.ca/News/this_is_40_so...an_adams_wilco THIS IS 40 The soundtrack for Judd Apatow's upcoming This Is 40 has already generated some buzz thanks to Jon Brion's score and a contribution from Fiona Apple that reportedly landed her in some hot water with her label. Now, the details of the soundtrack have been confirmed. While Pitchfork notes that Apple's original tune, "Dull Tool," was originally pegged to appear in the film but not on the soundtrack, that song is indeed included here. Other artists who offer up original material are Norah Jones, Lindsay Buckingham (of Fleetwood Mac) and Graham Parker. Brion produced all of these contributions. A press release also notes that Ryan Adams and Wilco created tracks specifically for the album, although in the former's case, this simply means a pair of live cuts. As for Wilco, their contribution is called "I Got You," but it's unclear how this is different from "I Got You (At the End of the Century)" from 1996's Being There. Rounding out the tracklist are previously released contributions from the likes of Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Loudon Wainwright, Yoko Ono and the Avett Brothers. There's also one selection from Brion's score. The soundtrack arrives on December 11 through Capitol Records. The movie will follow on December 21. The film stars Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann, who reprise their roles as Pete and Debbie from 2007's Knocked Up. This Is 40 - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: 1. Yoko Ono - "I'm Your Angel" 2. Norah Jones - "Always Judging" 3. Graham Parker with Punch Brothers - "What Do You Like?" 4. Lindsey Buckingham - "Sick of You" 5. Paul Simon - "Rewrite" 6. Ryan Adams - "Shining Through The Dark (Live)" 7. Paul McCartney - "Lunch Box/Odd Sox" 8. Lindsey Buckingham ft. Norah Jones - "Brother & Sister" 9. Jon Brion - "Theme 1 (Debbie & Oliver)" 10. Graham Parker & The Rumour - "Watch the Moon Come Down" 11. Loudon Wainwright - "Days That We Die" 12. Lindsey Buckingham - "She Acts Like You" 13. Fiona Apple - "Dull Tool" 14. Ryan Adams - "Lucky Now (Live)" 15. Wilco - "I Got You" 16. The Avett Brothers - "Live & Die" 17. Graham Parker & The Rumour - "Protection (Live)" (digital bonus track) |
November 13 and December 11. Holiday gifts for everyone.

Excellent news!
I'm not keen on movie sound tracks but Lindsey has used them for some of his best songs in the past. I'd rather they come out like this than stay in a cupboard for another 2 years :) Taking Lindsey's songs on their own, add in a couple of the tracks from live album and he could release it as a mixed studio/live EP. I can't wait to hear these! I have to say, I'm intrigued by the Norah Jones collaboration. It'll be nice to hear him singing a track with somebody who has more than half an octave in range. And it's only just more than a month away! He kept that one quiet. |

How do y'all feel about him working with Norah Jones? I've never responded to her one way or the other as a musician, but as an actress she was wonderful in MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS. Also in that movie, Cat Power (about whom I have no feeling as a musician) should have been acclaimed as the year's best supporting actress.
Intrigued to hear him do such a collab as they are rare outside the Mac. |
Looking forward to that one! Fabulous news!

if you are talking about Lindsey, you must have not heard him singing the last 2 years or so.  |
So, with the ones Stevie sang back up on, we're getting 5 new Lindsey songs.
Not bad. Michele |
I love that Lindsey isn't just sitting on tracks for decades any more. Now he just needs to announce that he's got a new solo album coming out after the FM tour and it'll be the cake to go with the icing.

[So, they streamed Dull Tool, it shouldn't be long before we hear one of Lindsey's. Interesting that John Brion produced all the songs]
Indie Wire, The Playlist by Edward Davis, November 17, 2012 http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplayli...oster-20121117 It's already been revealed that the soundtrack for Judd Apatow's "This is 40" -- his sort-of-sequel to "Knocked Up" -- will feature another choice selections of cuts, including songs by Yoko Ono, Paul McCartney, Avett Brothers, Loudon Wainwright and more. But even more appealing is the fact that there are four artists who contributed new songs to the film's soundtrack, including Fiona Apple, Norah Jones, Graham Parker (who cameos in the film), and Lindsey Buckingham; all produced by the film's composer Jon Brion (Wilco and Ryan Adams also contribute new/live versions of previously known songs). It's a bit of a Dad-rock mix, but hell, it fits the material, and these kind of song selections served the tone for "Knocked Up" and Apatow's previous film "Funny People" extremely well. This is a long-winded way of saying, here's a first listen of Apple's new track "Dull Tool" and it sounds like a vintage (and quirky) collaboration between her and Brion, the producer of her classic album The Pawn, and the unreleased version of Extraordinary Machine (some will say the superior version of the same set of songs that was released in 2005). A new poster has arrived too. Check out Paul Rudd in the Ween t-shirt (his character is a music industry A&R guy). The boognish would be proud. "This is 40," also stars Leslie Mann, Albert Brooks, Megan Fox, Jason Segel, Chris O'Dowd, Lena Dunham, Melissa McCarthy, John Lithgow, Charlyne Yi, Maude and Iris Apatow and more. Universal Pictures will release the film on December 21, 2012. Check out the new song and poster below. |

http://www.amazon.com/This-Is-40-Sou...rds=this+is+40 not sure i like much of LB's stuff that i can hear in those snippets... had especially high hopes for Sick Of You :p. at least his voice is normal and not sped up or distorted, so that's good. looking forward to see whether my opinion will change when i hear the whole songs. |

There's not really enough there to fully judge on but they're sort of what I was expecting. I was hoping Sick of You would have been an edgy rocker but didn't expect it to be given that it's on a compilation. The rhythms in the chorus of Brother and Sister are cool.
What I think is interesting is that (as far as I can tell through Amazon's mp3 crapifier) they seem to be different sonically to what he's been doing recently. There are sounds, like the bass in She Acts Like You, that are different to what he's done before. That was most likely a result of them not being produced by him. I wonder if there are outside musicians on these as well (bar Norah Jones obviously) because if there are then it'll be about the most outside influence on Lindsey solo tracks that there's ever been. |
Well, I remember I didn't like Everybody Loves You when I heard a clip of it and I do like the full song, so maybe that will be true of one of these as well.

Back to the mainstream mr. Buckingham?

Sounds like they autotuned him.

You can hear some of the 'jolting' (for lack of better descriptor) very subtly when he changes notes that is characteristic of it. Not a diss on Lindsey - I know he doesn't need autotune. I'm just saying it sounds to me like they gave him a little b/c I guess it's just common practice these days.. I could be wrong. Maybe it's just these sound clips aren't very good quality. |

Brothers and Sisters is the worst of the 3. This will be a triple family relationship song failure for him, after Family Man and Flying Down Juniper.:distress: The other 2 sound like they could be something. Michele |

but, i was kinda hoping that Sick Of You will be an Illumination-like faster song. we can hear parts of both verses and chorus in the snippet and i don't like either much so i don't have much hope for that one... She Acts Like You snippet sounds pretty. BaS - i have no idea where the whole song will go and am keeping an open mind about that one - may still like it when i hear the whole thing, just don't like the snippet that we can hear. i had (guess still have!) high hopes for that one since sounds like it would be interesting collaboration. |
She Acts Like You sounds like it's going to be delightful. Easily my favourite of the 3.
|
Also, it sounds like Lindsey singing on the Norah Jones song Always Judging. Anybody else think it sounds like him?

these snippets are lovely

Brother & Sister sounds promising & I'm really liking She Acts Like You (though I expected it to be a bit edgier.) Not really sure I like Sick of You.
Regardless, I think its pretty cool Lindsey is getting some mainstream exposure. I hope the clips they play in the movie aren't really short:D |

The title "She Acts Like You" reminds me of the lyrics, "she's a lot like you." Michele |

baby never comes around had enough of all the toys she sits alone above the noise she acts like you hard to tell really, but sounds like a song about a woman to me (mostly because of "baby never comes around"). "she's a lot like you." Quote:
