what next for LB?

LB played the last show of this leg last Saturday, 9/8 in Rama, ON. As far as we know, there are no more currently scheduled solo shows.

Stealing this question from http://www.facebook.com/fleetwoodmacuk:

We already know FM tour is happening next year, although not sure how long it will last. Besides FM tour, and since there is still some time before that tour starts, what would be your preference for LB to do next -
  • More US solo tour dates before the end of the year
  • Some UK/EU solo dates (either this year or interspersed with FM tour next year)
  • New solo album or EP
  • FM EP before starting the tour next year
  • BN reissue and a short tour somewhere before or after FM tour
  • All of the above
  • None of the above

louielouie2000 09-11-2012 08:12 PM

I definitely see him adding some more solo dates. He seems to dislike down time these days, and since there is a looming Fleetwood Mac tour on the horizon, I don't really foresee any other options for Lindsey until then. I don't know if he will go to Europe, but I certainly wouldn't discount the possibility.

I think it's pretty safe to say there will be no recording with Fleetwood Mac until their upcoming tour is over (if they ever record again, period). I think Lindsey will probably hold out and see what is going to happen with Fleetwood Mac before committing his songs to another solo project.

I cannot see Fleetwood Mac recording an EP, though I really dig the idea. Either the band won't record at all, or they will go for a full album since they were all actually able to agree on recording new material in the first place. That being said, I can't see the band recording in 2012 or 2013. Everyone just seems to have different ideas on what they want out of their band, and when. It looks like it's carved in stone that 2013 will be dedicated to another Mac oldies tour, though.

nice break-down of possibilities, seems pretty realistic to me.

i know Lindsey really wants to add another solo leg, but it may not work out. i hope for all the people who are still waiting to see this tour (or people who are in LB-live withdrawal phase!) that he manages to do it... but if not, 61-date tour from may through sept was a pretty nice and densely packed run!!

UK / EU tour... well, maybe he can somehow do a few dates in between FM dates, when he already has the equipment there, especially if it's a one-man show - kinda like he did Soundstage recording in the middle of SYW tour? (this idea originated from LB actually - provided in response to a m&g question, when repeatedly badgered by one of his UK fans.)

LB has been repeatedly saying in response to m&g questions (from numerous people with BN vinyls for him to sign!) that he would love to do something about BN reissue, plus possibly a really small tour, however the ball is in SN's court. although i personally don't care much about that album, seems that many wish to see something BN-related done in 2013, considering it's 40-years since it first came out. if some kind of mini-tour happens, i hope they add some newer songs (Twisted, SA come to mind), or BN songs that came out as FM songs later (IDWTK?), and not just rehash 40 year old ones.:p

i have no idea what might happen re any FM recording projects, but there are those 8 songs Mick and Lindsey both mentioned, that they would like FM to consider. so i agree with you, seems LB intended those songs to be FM songs, not solo... but whatever happens - and whenever - i hope it's extremely fast. LB (and DS, if he'd be involved) seem to be able to work really fast these days, so hope that translates to any potential FM project - or that there is none. LB solo on the road is too good... don't want him to waste away in the studio for the next 3 years working on some Mac project.:distress:

mylittledemon 09-12-2012 02:05 AM

Only God knows eh? In an ideal world, he'd:

1) Quit touring for Seeds We Sow.
2) Start touring with Stevie in support of Buckingham Nicks for 2013.
3) The above leads to a Fleetwood Mac reunion and studio work.
4) Fleetwood Mac tours again in support of a new album 2013-2014.
5) Lindsey does more solo stuff.

Peestie 09-12-2012 06:02 AM

For me it's a solo album. A solo album leads to a tour (which can have a UK/EU leg as planned for the SWS tour) and then when the eventual FM oldies tour comes around at least we can rest easy knowing that we've already got new LB music.

For me, in a perfect world, he'd add a couple more tracks to the ones recorded with Mick, maybe add John on bass, release a solo album and then tour. This could be with Fleetwood Mac or solo but it's the recorded output that I want the most. And I'm not that interested in hearing Stevie doing harmonies on Lindsey's tracks any more so I'd rather he kept them for solo stuff.

Being on the neglected side of the ocean the selfish response is to just want recorded music because I can't access the tours but I can buy a new album. If he was touring here as regularly as he tours the US I'd be more enthusiastic about tours.

Badgered? Badgered?

Yeah, OK, I did badger him somewhat!:D

McTrouble 09-12-2012 06:27 AM

Even though I absolutely want UK/Europe solo tour for his still disappointed fans over here, I am desperate for that final leg in the USA - this has been the most amazing year ever and I don't want it to end yet. I need to see my friends and Lindsey for one more trip!

CADreaming 09-12-2012 06:39 AM

These two:
  • FM EP before starting the tour next year
  • BN reissue and a short tour somewhere before or after FM tour

Not sure if EP would be released before the tour starts though. Definitely don't see BN before FM tour either.

I think we won't hear much from now through December.

just curious - people who picked "none of the above" - can you elaborate? do you have something else in mind that you'd like LB to do, and is not listed as an option above?

None of the above - Strictly tour with Fleetwood Mac (oldies cash grab world tour) and then disband again for solo tours. :distress: Sad, but I think the most logical.

chiliD 09-12-2012 06:40 PM

First off...what's Neale's status? Is he healing? Is he able to get back on the road? Is Brett playing with Stevie? What's Walfredo up to?

Until he can get his usual suspects back to health, he could do a few one-man show dates as Stevie's opening act...while sitting in for a couple (read: a few or more) of songs (& encore) of Stevie's set. Then get Mick & John to make sporadic "cameo" appearances for the rest of Stevie's tour...take the holidays off...get their asses in a recording studio in Feburary & March...release the album in May, rehearse for the tour in June, hit the road with the "big machine" in July. Then take some time off to spend with your damned kids!

yeah, although i hope it doesn't, seems like the most probable thing to happen... but would not be my pick if i could choose.

i don't know... i think Neale is healing, albeit a bit slower than he expected. Brett is touring with Stevie, and Walfredo has been constantly touring with several bands since april or so.

so for the Lindsey solo option, in these few months before the Mac tour, think about solo one-man show as he's been doing.

why would any of them want to do that??!?!??!? two different perspectives i see with your plan, both negative:
  • fan perspective - i know i wouldn't want to go see that kind of a show... from my perspective, it would feel kinda like Stevie/Rod combo felt to SN fans.
  • perspective of individual FM members - they already know they have to deal with each other and all FM politics probably for most of 2013, why would they want to start touring with each other earlier (and not as FM!) and make themselves have to deal with all their stuff before they absolutely need to??

you don't like to see separate shows from Lindsey, Mick, or Stevie?

I love everything about this post :xoxo: First off, you're not selfish, and even though I live in Seattle, Lindsey playing solo in the UK is still my first wish. I talk to a lot of people online from the UK (besides here), and I know how badly all of you still want him there, and how awful it was when he had to cancel. I heard/read the word "gutted" more times than I could keep count of. :(

Second, because it's already a fact that next year will be FM touring, I think an album from Lindsey in the mean time is, as you said, the best guarantee of a future solo tour ASAP following the FM tour. And new music from Lindsey is, of course, always a good thing  So, it's a win-win!

I too dread Stevie's voice messing up Lindsey's songs, and I badly want to hear the stuff he's recorded with Mick. I do NOT want another Gift of Screws I type hijacking and seperating of his songs.

As much as I would love to do a few more dates on one last leg of the current ( or recently finished ) tour, in reality, with holidays coming, I probably wouldn't get to go to any anyways. So, I'm with you 100%. New Lindsey solo album finished up before FM tour gets under way.

I didn't vote, but I would not want an FM EP. I'd want an FM album, even if that cuts down on their collaboration. While an EP would be faster and cut down on friction, I wouldn't vote for an EP, solo or band.

I would like to see Lindsey work with Brian Wilson, 2 musical geniuses, or maybe Lindsey do a cover of all his favorite Beach Boys tunes.

They don't hijack those songs. They've been knowing they were going to do more music. Both Stevie and Lindsey write songs and do demos and then they try them out for FM and decide whether or not they want to keep them or just use them for solo stuff. It's not some song war. Plus, Lindsey is at the controls - if he wants to keep his songs for solo projects he is fully capable of doing that. Certainly, Stevie or Mick is not strong arming him. LOL.

Come on, CAD, we know it was WB who "strong armed" Linds, and that's why he's gone indie, to avoid a repetition of the whole GOS/SYW debacle.

Sure, he made a choice, but I don't think he had much of a choice with WB who simply didn't care about his solo work.

I think Linds will be on hiatus until Dec/Jan, when FM rehearsals begin, but we know he's worked on new music, so hopefully we can get a Mac or LB album in 2013. As long as something gets done and not, as Alice said, the cash grab tour and nothing else. I also expect LB to bring out some real deep cuts, ala WATL, for FM 2013.
I enjoyed the hell out of IKINW in 2009!!

CADreaming 09-13-2012 09:43 AM

^You're right about WB. Since that's where the bankroll came from. However, Lindsey could have still held out his songs for GOS without ever playing them for WB or the band. He obviously thought they worked for the "big machine".

But, most fans like to perpetuate a band war that is not totally accurate and put the blame on "FM" or Stevie, or Mick.

The fans don't do this on their own. Lindsey has been suggesting that this has happened to him for decades. I believe legend says it was Stevie, Mick, John, Christine and DB Cooper hijacking him. However, after SYW Lindsey has made it clear that he has been writing songs with FM in mind. For 10 years, it's been his desire and intention to record with FM. After SYW he even said that FM music was his preference, but they couldn't make that work. He became the one most in favor of it at that point when, in the past, he had not been.

This much is true. The only example that comes to mind where Stevie DID ruin one of Lindsey's songs with her vocals is Peacekeeper. I thought it was far superior without Stevie's overly reedy backing vocals.

But there are a hundred instances where her backing vocals had the exact opposite effect. Songs like I'm So Afraid just seem bare & almost one dimensional without Stevie's presence.

I'm So Afraid is absolutely amazing on this current tour - best version I have EVER heard. He certainly does not need Stevie anywhere near it!!!!!

Agree, totally. I don't think Stevie and Lindsey's voices mesh as well as they used to and Stevie's voice doesn't sound anywhere near as good as it did say, 20 or even 10 years ago. I much prefer Lindsey's current solo version of I'm So Afraid to any version he's done previously, with or without FM.

I understand this is a big cash grab for them and I've never seen Fleetwood Mac live before, so fine, go out and do this tour and make some money. I'll go to a show just so I can say I've seen them once. While they are at it, throw some Buckingham Nicks songs in the set so we don't have to sit through that tour next and Lindsey can get back to where he belongs, doing his solo work. :D

Always thought the slow, low key way Stevie walks off the stage at the end of her ISA vocals is so amusing. She probably wanted to hitch up her dress and run off the stage full speed screaming. Poor girl has had to live with that thing since the BN days. It is like Lindsey and Rhiannon. I love Christine on the song live.

Thought Stevie's vocals on Mirand were especially nice.

I don't think it is entirely myth. I think TiTN did delay a solo album and that wasn't Lindsey's choosing. SYW was a different matter. Ultimately, he wanted his songs on an FM album when he kept hitting a brick wall getting the label interest for a solo. And true, I agree that his songs sounded like he wanted (though maybe not SYHA and BTLH or My Little Demon before that) and he would have even had Stevie on Come. She is the one who demurred. i feel the same way. Lindsey may have let her and/or wanted her to be on those songs, but that doesn't mean we have to like how they ended up sounding. for example, a song we were listening to on our recent trip is What's The World Coming To, which i don't like much anyway... but i just physically can't stand it once when Stevie comes in with her quacking nasal voice. have to turn it off, and move to the next song.

I'm really sorry, CAD. That was definitley not my intent, to wound a friend. I love FM and I like BN too. You know that. But I prefer solo Lindsey (live or album) over everything else, no question about it. Stevie's voice hasn't been good in years. And as has been mentioned, songs such as Peacekeeper and SYHA are what I was thinking of (among others) when I said I didn't want her voice on his songs. I like the way he did them on his own. Lindsey harmonizing with Lindsey is a thing of beauty  But I could have said it nicer. Which isn't to say I don't still like earlier work between them. I also think the original GOS is a masterpiece and I don't want to take the 8 songs Lindsey supposedly has written and break them up into 4 or 5 and maybe never even hear the others. I want all eight together - not 4 here, 2 there, and 2 more not at all. If he did in fact write them with FM in mind though, then it will be easier to accept. In a perfect world I'd get a new solo album AND a new FM album. But our band is not getting any younger, so I want as much Lindsey solo first and foremost.

And since we already know FM is touring, I do hope very much that they include BN songs...and not just one or two of them. That would be sweet. I get the impression Lindsey would like that too, so I'm guessing it'll be up to Stevie  What I don't want is a BN tour following a FM tour, since it will simply take too much time.

I much prefer Lindsey's current solo version of I'm So Afraid to any version he's done previously, with or without FM.

No, thanks. I thoroughly enjoy Lindsey's version, but it is 1000 times better with Stevie's harmony and the subtleness of it.

While they are at it, throw some Buckingham Nicks songs in the set so we don't have to sit through that tour next and Lindsey can get back to where he belongs, doing his solo work.
OMG! That's just blasphemous. Please don't go to a BN show if they do tour.

I really want to be mad at you for that, but it's sort of funny... even though I of course 1000% totally DISAGREE!

Michele

Yeah, I'm talking more about The post Dance period. But, I still think the whole hi-jacking thing is exaggerated. They knew they were going to be doing SYW after The Dance. Stevie even said at an interview at the end of The Dance, they would be doing an album and they knew Christine was retiring and she wouldn't be involved, but they would be doing one in 5 years. So, Lindsey had songs in the can and he chose to use them on SYW. And then he says his stuff is "hi-jacked" by FM. LOL!!! That makes for good copy. By the way, he could have used their version of "I Am Waiting" on SYW. I would have liked to have heard a completed version of that instead of LB hi-jacking it for his solo project. ;)

I mean, I have been of the opinion for eons that what that song was missing was a quacking, nasal voice doing harmony....

Entertainment. :D

No, I think it's an exaggeration used for press purposes. Look, they have to create a little drama otherwise it's just a big snoozefest. So, when he says it was "hi-jacked" by Fleetwood Mac what he means is he was working on a solo project (because is just always working on stuff) and they were planning on doing the record and he looked up one day (because he was still working on the solo project) and it was time for FM to "reconvene" and damn he still wasn't finished with his solo project (because he's always working on one) and then he thought "hey, we'll just use this stuff I've already been conveniently working on and see if we like how Stevie and the guys sound on 'em" and the label said "we'd like the FM project first" and then Destiny Rules business stuff, blah, blah, blah...and you're gonna fall asleep here so -- Fleetwood Mac HIJACKED his stuff!:lol::lol:

You're sweet. I understand your Lindsey love. I get it -- I really do!

But, they have both said time and time again they do not specifically write songs and put them in a "solo" bucket or a "FM" bucket. They just write and then they get together and see what works. Stevie has said only after they try things together or after she does a demo does she think it might work better as a solo song or a Fleetwood Mac song. I think Lindsey is the same way -- it's just stuff you're working on, ya know?

I want a BN tour. If it was presented in the right way - meaning not rolled into a FM show or a FM greatest hits - it would be something Stevie & Lindsey fans have never experienced before. If they worked the set list right and had other players involved. Eh. I dream, I know.

And, Stevie's voice isn't what it once when she was younger - neither is Lindsey's. But, her voice is still good and she can still sing awesome harmony.

Two is better than one! :)

:laugh: actually i never liked IAW on UTS (although i loved LB's 92Y version), so wouldn't mind the version that we heard snippets of in DR doc.

yeah his voice is very different now, but Lindsey's current mature voice is much deeper and fuller than his young voice was. i love his current voice, and although in deeper register, it's incredibly strong these days, as you also experienced a month or so ago when you saw him, i'm sure. (and i strongly disliked his young voice regardless of the range he had).

so i'm with all who said two is not always better than one. yeah Lindsey would like BN tour, and that's one of the reasons i checked "all of the above" which includes that one, however much i personally may not care about it. but i've noticed BN tour/reissues received no votes so far as a preference even though if you go to some of the m&gs after LB's shows you'd think that's what so many people want.:shrug:

reading through message string in this thread, sure - tastes are really really different (nothing new there!):

while people who prefer LB solo seem to all strongly prefer current extremely dark solo version of ISA, people who are more FM fans seem to prefer one or the other FM version... and there are some very different versions of ISA live, as we all well know, all great, but some just stir something deeper in you... the current one-man version just sent shivers down my spine every single time i heard it.

So, Lindsey had songs in the can and he chose to use them on SYW.

But I don't think most of the GOS songs he had were unisex songs (so to speak). I think they were meant to be solo, not just up for grabs. I don't think it's just the sound that was meant to be his solo expression, but the words too for some of those songs. I just don't see Come (the starkest example) or even the more mellow Peacekeeper as something that he'd want to say from an FM pulpit.

Sure, I don't think the songs were hijacked. In the end, he wanted them on an FM album as his best bet of getting them to the listener of listeners, but I think when they were created they had another purpose and he was really hoping for a solo album, which hope didn't end up panning out.

Some of these songs I think he not only did not write for FM, but he would have been upset by the way FM would have made him compromise them. Of course, when Christine left, he didn't have to compromise as much. But sometimes he has it in his head that keyboards soften his message and I think, before the Dance, he wrote some of those songs definitely NOT wanting them to have that smooth FM sound. Unless he was girding for another Tusk battle, I just can't imagine him writing those songs without contemplating a definite solo purpose for them. His voice, his playing, only.

Obviously, he did want that sound, and those keyboards, for other songs, Steal Your Heart Away, for example.

I don't agree with the oft-cited argument that SYW sounds like two solo albums slapped together. But I do think some of those songs were geared solo on LB's part. Of course, the stuff he's written since then is an entirely different matter. All of UTS . . . definitely I see your argument there: that he just wrote and the songs didn't have a label, no FM versus LB. They were just songs that could have gone either way.

^ and if you listen to GOS 2001 version, that album just holds together so nicely... one of the most perfect albums i've ever heard.

(i know i always say all this, but it bears repeating and keeping in mind - and i also know i'm definitely not the only person who feels this way!)

SYW is not even close to the perfection GOS1 was. whoever's fault it is, and in my opinion it was mostly someone's in WB, every time i listen to that GOS1 from the beginning to the end, i just can't help but thinking they didn't allow us to have one of the best albums ever to see the light of the day. LB is much bigger person that i would ever be since he was apparently able to get over any resentment, chop those songs apart and disperse them over different albums.

Oh I'll go. And I'll sit on Lindsey's side and scream for him and use Stevie's songs for bathroom breaks. :D

You're right. Lindsey's voice isn't what it was when he was younger, it's matured and sounds 1000 times better.

Because the guitar solo on ISA just totally overshadows the rest of it, I can't say I have super strong feelings about the vocal, but this tour I did like the way he interpreted it. His vocal sounded fresh and inspired to me. When they can find new feeling in the way they sing such old songs (the way there are just always little new nuances in GDW, for example) I am always very impressed and reinvigorated as a fan.

although i hear watching LB playing on stage when he doesn't have to carry a song is a lot of fun too.

exactly! (see my post above)
if only Lindsey would realize it too and stop trying to make it sound thin like his young voice was on his studio recordings.:distress:

redtulip 09-13-2012 10:44 PM

This needs no comment on its utter superiority.

*edit* I do have a comment now that I've thought it over a bit, ISA is all about the guitar solo really, no Stevie necessary. Exhibit A-Z is posted above.
