Stevie to perform at Elton John Fundraiser

Hello Gavin,

On Monday, October 15, 2012, the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) will present its 11th annual An Enduring Vision benefit at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Award-winning CNN anchor Anderson Cooper will host, and Founder Sir Elton John and Chairman David Furnish will pay tribute to several esteemed philanthropists by presenting EJAF’s Enduring Vision Awards to long-time supporters Robert Kraft, Diana Jenkins, and Joseph Blount.

Bob Kraft has been a loyal and generous supporter of the Foundation for many years, both personally and through the Robert and Myra Kraft Family Foundation. As Chairman, CEO, and Founder of Neuro, and as a private philanthropist, Diana Jenkins has been a wonderful patron EJAF’s work and events in the U.S. and in the U.K. Likewise, Joseph Blount has also been an ardent benefactor to the Foundation since its inception.

This year, Elton welcomes the incomparable Stevie Nicks as his special musical guest for An Enduring Vision. As a member of Fleetwood Mac, whose “Rumours” album was one of the biggest selling albums of all time, Stevie Nicks’ extraordinary career includes multiple Grammy awards, numerous gold and platinum records, induction into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and unforgettable performances across the stages of the world for over three decades. Nicks, who has penned Fleetwood Mac classics including the timeless “Landslide,” “Dreams,” “Gold Dust Woman” and “Rhiannon,” has had equal success as a solo artist beginning with her five times platinum debut “Bella Donna.” With unforgettable songs such as “Edge of Seventeen” and “Stand Back,” Stevie Nicks is unique among the pantheon of rock icons. Her new album, “In Your Dreams,” was co-produced by former Eurhythmic Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard. Nicks has been touring the last year and a half with her “In Your Dreams” Tour and has also appeared with Rod Stewart on the “Heart & Soul” Tour. The Gold Dust Woman is also completing work on a documentary on the making of “In Your Dreams,” which will be released at the end of this year.

2012 marks the 20th year since the establishment of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The 2011 An Enduring Vision event raised $2 million, which helped EJAF continue serving as one of the leading grant makers addressing the HIV prevention and treatment needs of populations most at risk of HIV infection and most in need of EJAF’s help because they exist at the margins of society.

Sir Elton John and David Furnish serve as the honorary chairs for An Enduring Vision, joined by their Co-Chairs Bill and Tani Austin, Alec Baldwin, Johnny and Edwina Barbis, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Steven A. and Alexandra M. Cohen, John Demsey, Andrew Farkas, Greg Gorman, Tim Hanlon, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness, Donna Karan, Leonard Lauder, Sandra Lee, Leslie Moonves, Martha Nelson, Ronald O. Perelman, Lily Safra, Ingrid Sischy and Sandra Brant, Harry and Laura Slatkin, Edward Walson, and Roger Woolsey among others. Presenting Sponsors for the event are American Airlines, The Kraft Group, and Wells Fargo, and Co-Sponsors are The John R. Eckel Foundation, John and Cindy Fish, The Lauder Foundation – Leonard and Evelyn Lauder Foundation, Revlon, and the Starkey Hearing Foundation.

For ticket information, please contact Matt Blinstrubas at the Elton John AIDS Foundation, 212.219.0670 or [email protected].

Sincerely,

Scott Campbell
Executive Director

Stars Turn Out To Support Elton John's Aids Foundation

Stevie Nicks performed for a star-studded crowd at Sir Elton John's 11th annual Aids research fundraiser in New York on Monday night (15Oct12).

The Rocket Man legend threw his yearly party to pull in donations for the Elton John Aids Foundation, and Brooke Shields, Lance Bass, Alan Cumming, and Courtney Love turned out to support the cause.

Fleetwood MAC star Nicks took to the stage to sing for the guests, before the host addressed the crowd to insist more money is needed to end the stigma of the killer disease.

He said, "The stigma involved in people coming out and saying they're Hiv positive is still an underground thing, it's still a shame-based thing. Until we can get everybody tested and people to come out and be role models to people who have Hiv, then we're still battling against this disease."

The event raised more than $2 million (£1.25 million).

Sandra Lee Wore a Flea-Market Dress to Elton John’s Enduring Vision Gala

Stevie Nicks was the performer at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Enduring Vision gala on Monday in Manhattan, and M.C. Anderson Cooper was stoked. “I have to warn you that I’ve got my big hat with a feather, I’ve got tambourines, I’ve got my wind machines. I’ve got a white bird back there. I am so ready for whatever Miss Stevie Nicks brings tonight,” Cooper told the crowd in his opening remarks.

Cooper wasn’t the only one. “She’s right there,” Courtney Love whispered to VF Daily as Nicks walked by. “Can you smell the God-ness?”

“Stevie Nicks got me through high school,” Sandra Lee told us. “The Bella Donna album was, like, my anthem.”

Lee wore a shiny silver dress to the benefit, a nod to Elton John’s famously flamboyant outfits. The dress cost $188 at a flea market in the Chelsea Market, the building in which the Food Network is located, she told us. “I got it this weekend. I didn’t know what I was going to wear,” Lee said.

Alan Cumming also wore an outfit in Elton’s honor. His red-and-white suit was custom-made in the tartan of a beloved Scottish comic-strip character. “This is a tartan; this is a cartoon character from a newspaper in Scotland, Oor Wullie, and they gave it to me,” Cumming said. He equated the character with Charlie Brown in the U.S. “It’s so much a part of my childhood and my country. And I thought I would wear it, because, you know, Elton is going to be dressed. It’s not, like, a demure evening, is it?”

(Best-Dressed List honoree Matt Lauer insisted that he does not own any flashy articles of clothing, although he admitted to a youthful phase of shoulder-length hair. “I mean, it went back in a bad way, parted on the side. It was a disaster. Let’s just say I’m better almost bald,” Lauer told us. “There are still pictures floating around that I would have to plead the Fifth on.” Internets, get on those photos, will you?)

Sir Elton was surprisingly wearing all black with nary a sequin anywhere. But as he explained to the crowd: “I flew here from California yesterday, and I left my outfit behind. And I phoned my housekeeper up, and I said, ‘I’ve left my rhinestone outfit in the cupboard. Do you think you can find it and ship it to me straightaway? The lovely, beautiful rhinestone jacket.’ And she e-mailed me back and said, ‘There is no designer called Ryan Stone hanging in the cupboard.’”

Before taking the stage, Elton told us that he had personally invited Nicks to perform at the gala. “I’ve always loved Stevie, and I’ve known her for a long time,” he said. “I think we used to hang out and do drugs together, many, many years ago, if I can remember when Tusk came out,” he added, laughing.

Nicks took over for an hour-long set of her biggest hits, including “Rhiannon,” “Dreams,” and “Gold Dust.” The formally dressed crowd at Cipriani was on its feet, singing along. When she sang “Landslide,” couples started slow dancing. Nicks did her trademark moves, hands in the air, swinging her gauzy shawl. After singing “Stand Back,” she held up her wrap, fringed, black with gold embroidery, and said, “This is the original ‘Stand Back’ cape from 1983. Ladies, you get what you pay for.”

The evening also included a live auction, during which Julian Schnabel paid $10,000 for two tickets to see Alec Baldwin on Broadway in Orphans, and Brooke Shields was the high bidder, at $20,000, for a portrait session.

Stevie Nicks Headlines Elton John's AIDS Foundation Gala in New York
Fleetwood Mac singer says John is 'a soldier's angel...we couldn't get anything done without him'

The stars aligned for Elton John's 11th annual "An Enduring Vision" benefit Monday in downtown New York, where VIP guests helped raise $2 million for the singer's AIDS Foundation and Stevie Nicks took the stage as the night's marquee performer.

"I think we used to hang out and do drugs together many years ago – if I could remember when [Fleetwood Mac's] Tusk came out," joked John, arriving at Cipriani Wall Street with his partner, David Furnish, under sheets of pouring rain. "We've never asked her to do anything. The last few years, we've had R&B performers, and they've been brilliant. We thought, let's just go the other way this year and ask Stevie, and she said yes, so we're so thrilled."

Inside, host Anderson Cooper guided the black-tie affair and introuced John and Furnish, who delivered their mission statement to guests including Brooke Shields, Alan Cumming, Courtney Love, Lance Bass and Cheyenne Jackson. "We're going to keep shouting for as long and as loud as we need to end this epidemic," exclaimed John. After an auction of an Andy Warhol print and tickets for Alec Baldwin's Broadway play, Nicks closed out the night with a rousing, hour-long set of material both old and new. Caressing a mic stand adorned with swinging gold chains, the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman performed "Soldier's Angel," dedicating the track to John's AIDS efforts.

"I started going to visit the soldiers at Bethesda from 2005," Nicks said. "Elton is a soldier's angel too, for AIDS, because we wouldn't get anything done without him." Nicks also took a stroll down memory lane with "Stand Back," "Rhiannon," "Dreams" and "Gold Dust Woman." She slowed her pace for "Landslide," calling the song "the foundation of [Fleetwood Mac's] whole career" before revving back up for the closer "Edge of Seventeen." It was a raucous end to the evening, with tambourines shaking and uneaten slices of cake left behind.

Earlier in the night, Love told Rolling Stone she was excited to see Nicks perform for the first time in seven years. "When I was a little girl, I grew up on Elton and I grew up on Stevie," said Love. "I’m really excited to be here." The Hole frontwoman also revealed that she's diving back into her solo career with the release of a new single, "This is War," that comes ahead of a possible album. Love, who turned to ex-Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha to assist with production, is eyeing a February 7th release for the upbeat track.

"I'd put it out right now because it's a two-minute, 59-second song and it's sick, slamming, great," Love said. "I think it'll go Number One in the U.K. However, in the United States, who ****ing knows? I never thought I'd put out a 130, 135 BPM song. It's a really fast rock song. I'm telling you, it's probably the greatest rock song I've ever heard."

Former 'N Sync member Lance Bass also shared plans for new music. "I haven't been in the studio for almost 10 years now. This year, I'm actually getting in the studio and working on some solo stuff," said Bass, who remained mum on his collaborators. "I can't say just yet – it's a little premature, it'll be a few months. But I'm excited to get the wheels turning again."

This seems like it would have been a nice opportunity to perform "Touched By an Angel" in memory of all those who have been lost.

Well, Stevie's parents are a good inspiration for her. She can expect to have another 20 years. And they both still have their minds in tact too. So, there's a good chance she will remain as sane as she is now.

I have a second cousin who is 107 and she lived alone and was healthy until she was 104. Then, she fell over a box of pecans she was packing, broke her hip and things have been downhill ever since. I blame the relative to whom she was shipping the pecans. Why have a 104 year old woman pack and send you ANYTHING??

Yes .Stevie's parents were.I loved them.

I remember my grandmother having an accident like your cousin did.She never recovered fully. She was 83.

I lost my parents in their late 70's .they were healthy up to their mid 70's .I will see were I stand by that time.

I'm glad that Stevie was invited for this important cause.I'm an Elton John fan since 1970's probably the same time as I started to listen to Fleetwood Mac.

All about Stevie at Elton John gala

Nicks performs at John's Aids Foundation event

By Alexa Harrison, Variety, October 17, 2012

The 11th annual Elton John Aids Foundation gala on Monday quickly turned into a Stevie Knicks concert. "I've got my big hat with the feather. I've got my tambourine. I've got my wind machine. I've got a white bird back there," host Anderson Cooper said from the stage at Cipriani Wall Street. "I am so ready for whatever Miss Stevie Nicks brings tonight."

Elton John offered his "sartorial apologies" for not being decked to the nines, having left a more flamboyant outfit at home in California. "I phoned my housekeeper up and said, 'I've left my rhinestone outfit in the cupboard. Do you think that you could find it and ship it to me straight away?' She emailed me back and said, 'I'm afraid there is no designer called Ryan Stone hanging in the cupboard.'"

Nicks told the crowd, "This next song you know, so I'm not even going to introduce it. I'm just going to go get a cape," before launching into "Stand Back."
