What songs would you like Stevie and Rod to duet on suggestions?

I love "Handbags and Gladrags" with Rod's original voice and if Stevie likes it then, maybe they could sing it together. I also really like "The First Cut Is The Deepest".
They could sing any song, really, as long as they sing the words as they were suppose to be sung! This is so important to the integrity of the song itself!

StandbackStevie 07-22-2012 02:39 PM

The First cut is the deepest cut and of hers I would like to see them do actually new song of Stevie's would fit Cheaper than Free would be cool to do of hers with rod stewart.

skuncles 07-22-2012 04:57 PM

Stevie wanted to do The First Cut Is The Deepest, but Rod does that himself in his show. Stop Dragging My Heart Around would be cool for the two of them.

David 07-22-2012 08:19 PM

How about "Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)"?

Jondalar 07-22-2012 09:05 PM

For some reason, when Rod made the comment about support act, I would never go see them.

windbecame 07-23-2012 12:18 AM

I want/NEED her to sing Leather and Lace with him (even if he messes it up)... I haven't heard her sing it since 1986 (being in the Milwaukee area) and just watching it on video is NOT the same :)

APerfectLie 07-23-2012 01:26 AM

Leather and Lace and Reason to Believe!

Dodfather 07-23-2012 05:43 AM

Stevie would sound fantastic on Reason To Believe! It's got such a country tinge that she's so good at.

TakenByTheSky23 07-23-2012 10:55 AM

Not a HUGE hit of Rod's, but one that still got a lot of airplay: The Motown Song off of his Vagabond Heart album. Great, swinging energy, and Stevie would be great at tackling the second chorus and background vocals.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NGkbjIxk68

The video is laughable, but still a great song.

Ghosty 07-23-2012 11:59 AM

I'd not want to hear any duets between them. I'd rather she start working on another cd, solo or with Fmac. Or a book, or paintings, or whatever. I'm sick of all the touring without new stuff released. It's making greatest hits become boring oldies. :(

You can see her do this with her vocal coach now as part of her solo set when she's not opening for Rod. The vocal coach sings it while looking at Stevie adoringly. I think that's far preferable than having Rod do such a romantic song with Stevie when he seems to think so little of her. I personally am dreading it.

I do like the Motown song, though. It's lots of fun!

Ghosty, I couldn't agree more. I did not attend any of these latest IYD shows, I did attend the IYD show at the Mountain Winery in CA, when she went around with the first IYD shows. So I did get to see it. But for her to go around again and not sing Italian Summer or some other song off the album really disappointed me. Apart from the IYD songs, she did the same songs all over again. So I don't feel I missed anything, except for the pictures of her mom on the screen. I think she just really feels we like the same old songs. Because she's not changing anything.

jannieC 07-24-2012 09:35 AM

I am really debating attending this show. Is anyone going to the Greensboro show? I just have NO desire to see Rod Stewart, but feel like I would regret not seeing Stevie so close to home.

Despite what you've read or heard, Rod has a lot of great songs and puts on a very good live show. I know you'll enjoy all the lady performers he has in his band if not Rod himself.

Yes, I agree totally. They could sing a two-part harmony on, "If I listened long enough to you, I'd find a way to believe that it's all true. Knowing that you lied straight- faced while I cried. Still I look to find a reason to believe. Someone like you makes it hard to live without somebody else. Someone makes it easy to give I never think about myself." At least there would be a connection unlike the songs they're singing together now!

Wing24 07-24-2012 12:07 PM

Furious about the comment Rod made. Stevie will be remembered long after his showboating vegas shtick is forgotten.:sorry:

StandbackStevie 07-24-2012 03:31 PM

I agree I don't like Rod's comment about Stevie either she is always nice to him and she knows his songs more than he knows hers and the duets together are not great either there is definetly no magic between the two on stage I have to say I didn't see them when the played here in March 2011 at Mohegan Sun Arena one thing I didn't have the money at time to do it. Saw the you tube videos of the shows and definetly there is no magic between Stevie and Rod he doesn't even have the respect to sing Leather and Lace it seems like he has no interest at all to perform with Stevie and it shows. Maybe they should try another song of hers. He even says Leather and Lace is one of his favorites by her and Landslide. I think it would be cool for them to do Standback but Standback is totally stevie song that you don't touch. Hopefully there will be no more touring with Rod Stewart.

Macfanforever 07-24-2012 03:59 PM

I'm furious about the comment Rod made about Stevie.I hope this is the end of the combo tour. The tour is great for stevie to pay some bills. She down need to get her balls to get broken.I still think the first round of this tour screwed up her release of IYD when she got sick from that tour.

I like Rod Stewart and his music.I'm not knocking him and his tunes. But this tour is a mismatch.

michelej1 07-24-2012 05:08 PM

Well, whatever Rod might have said, the tour is advertised like it's a co-headlining tour and the reviews we've seen treat it like that as well. So, the public perception is not that she's opening for him, whether she is or not.

Michele

StandbackStevie 07-24-2012 06:45 PM

I like Rod too but I don't think they are compatable together at all. I think they should just tour by themselves and tour as an evening with shows rod does his thing and Stevie does her thing I prefer an evening with tours instead of double headling acts its nice but it just makes the tickets high priced where if its high priced i won't go to the show.Especially at these hard economic times the past 4 years or so.Stevie don't need the money she has plenty of it and so does Rod they have more money than everyone of us on this board will ever see,Stevie is reasonable on her own tours I think

If i do go, i will have to reschedule some things at work. I think i will go and just buy a sh*tty ticket. That will be a first for me since 1986! No Moonlight is a big factor for me too.

Jannie I'm only using your comment as an example.
But why go at all if everyone is so disappointed with
Stevie's choice of songs, or even her co-headliner?
If I weren't looking forward to seeing the artist, there's
no way I'd go to the trouble and expense of going to
see the show.

Is she and Rod are true co-headliners they'll take turns
on who opens and closes the show.

Personally if it were me, I'd rather play smaller venues solo
and know that the people out in the audience were there to
see me and not some other even older artist.

There's no guarantee that if you pass up one concert that you'll get another chance next year. She might not tour or she might not come to your city. If you don't go now and she doesn't come back for 3 years -- there's no guarantee what kind of show she'll be able to put on in 3 years. She might be Judi Dench by 2015.

I can understand wanting to see her when she's close, whether or not you're pleased with the choices, just because you don't know when the opportunity will arise again.

I agree .Go see her.I take every chance I get to see Stevie live.I've been doing so for over 25 years.

Hahahaha.I like Judi Dench .I watch her on PBS in As Time Goes By.A great show.

I've been trying to get into it, but haven't really. These days, it Comes on after my Hyacinth, whom I love. Don't say Bucket!

Most of the old British sitcoms are on DVD now, but that's just not enough. I like to be able to find them on my dial. After all these decades, I'd still sit and watch an Are You Being Served marathon.

Yes I love watching those britcoms.Hyacinth is my favorite too.I got Keeping up Appearances and As Time Goes By on my external hard drive.

Hahahaha.I feel so sorry for her husband Richard for puting up with her.

I started to watch John Cleese's Fawlty Towers now on PBS .He is funny.

I have not get into Are You Being Served yet but I will be soon.

Etisl 07-25-2012 10:45 PM

I would really love for them to do a duet version of "Sailing".........that would be really beautiful with their ranges. OR, I would love for them to do Stevie's "The Highwayman" as a duet.

Michele

I wasn't trying to talk people out of going to see her.
I'm just wondering why people that are unhappy with
the set list and who she's touring with are still planning
on going to the show(s)?

Unless I was financially involved in a show (those days are
over), there's no way I'd go and see an artist that I was unhappy
with for the reasons stated multiple times in many threads here
on The Ledge by various Ledgies.

I decided years ago I wouldn't see Stevie again. While she
certainly wasn't at her peak, it was still an enjoyable show
the last time I saw her. I have no interest in seeing an artist
on what is a natural downhill slide.

As a fan she gave me Bella Donna and The Wild Heart plus a
few good concerts. That's good enough for me. I walked away satisfied.

On a side note, I'm better at jokes than being serious. The real me
will be back soon.

I understand your point of view but for me, it's not that I am disappointed in her choice of songs, I'm just kind of broke right now- lol. And I've seen her so many times. Do I really need to spend the money again? I *loved* seeing Moonlight when I saw her in Colorado- that one song is a big draw for me.

I have been spoiled with being in the first few rows for so many years that it's hard for me to suck it up and buy a cheap (realistic for my budget) ticket. Will I be frustrated alllll the way back there, or will I be able to enjoy her show? :o

And then, there's this.

I have to make a decision, though. I have to run a group that night until 6pm but I would need to reschedule my 6pm and 7pm clients.

Macfanforever 07-26-2012 12:03 PM

I can understand the broke dept.My property taxes are due now.I endup giving Stevie the money to pay a sliver of hers .LOL.Got to the end of the month to come up with the money which I will.

I love Moonlight I've been having it looped around in my head for days now.

Oh I would like to hear "The First Cut Is The Deepest" together.

Now it looks like no tunes together.

Well, it sounds like you have very good memories from the last time you saw her solo. So, if that ends up being the very last time, you probably won't have a lot of woulda/shoulda regrets.

StandbackStevie 07-27-2012 08:50 AM

Gold would be a good song to sing with Rod and maybe another song not of there catalog a song by another artist might work better.

StandbackStevie 07-27-2012 08:58 AM

Twisted is another song that would be good I think.

Villavic 08-01-2012 02:06 PM

Dim All Th Lights

I know this may sound weird, but years ago Donna Summer wrote a song, yes she wrote it alone without Moroder or Bellotte (or so I read), and it was intended to give it to Rod Stewart, but changed her mind at the last minute.

That song is Dim all the lights, a hit that reached N.2 in Billboard in 1979. I think it would be nice to hear it in a Rod way, not disco exactly, and I think Stevie fits also in a duet version with Rod.

Listen how Donna starts this song according to a posibble Rod Stewart version:

StandbackStevie 08-01-2012 03:16 PM

good one too love Donna she is awesome seen in concert back in 1999 when she released that concert live and more encore.

here is another song might be perfect for rod and stevie to sing and its a current song too. Perfect song for them to sing

I once heard someone say that if you played 'Somebody That I Used to Know' backwards, it sounded like you were listening to Fleetwood Mac singing in a Russian dialect.

But, I'm thinking duets with Rod are a moot point by now.
