The documentary
I wonder where it is.
|
If it surfaces at all at this point, it'd have to be as a promotion tool: Stevie would have to base an official summer tour around it or something to that effect. I'm not so sure about the documentary coming to life given the fact most of Stevie's released works have gone into Out Of Print status. :sorry:

I hope Dave and Stevie don't blow this op coming up with her tour.It won't make since to release it in 2013 after the tour is said and done.
|
If they are just NOW looking for a distributor.. This is going to be months and months away from release! Not sure why they don't just make a few thousand copies and sell it on-line...
Dave could be trying to do something like he's just done for his own documentary which is on the making of The Blackbird Diaries and The Ringmaster General (his new album), he's partnered with a wine maker, has come up with a Ringmaster General bottle of wine with him on the label and is selling his 90 minute documentary with the bottle of wine for something like $125 bucks! It's an interesting idea and likely done to recoup some of his costs for production... So maybe he's looking into some sort of partnership for Stevie's doc. |

Mick's already. |
They're just NOW in the process of looking for a distributor? REALLY? Why do I feel this doesn't bode well? Why wouldn't Warners just distribute it? Oh wait...;)
|
I'm absolutely stumped by this documentary issue....IMO it seems that two things must have occurred...Stevie and Dave (maybe WB too) had hoped the cd, IYD was going to be much more of a commercial success...since it was not as successful, no one is interested in spending any more money on promoting a documentary....
Then I thought that repackaging IYD with a few new songs and the documentary and Stevie heading back out on summer tour and do the morning and late night talk shows - eventually maybe she would sell an additional 25,000 to 50,000 units...but does that make it worth it for all the parties concerned? I'm stumped:confused: |
Before the editing was finished they should of put out a search for a distributor then.Forget WB.We seen the results what they did on the release almost a year ago.Nevermind they never help promote her cd.

I think WB did plenty in the promo dept given the budget they had to work with and her Management did a good job getting her in the press, magazines, radio interviews and placed on some really popular shows with massive audiences... Plus the Rod tour laid the ground work getting the early word out that something was coming - and a reason for her to be in the press... Just different times, different audience.
This doc has nothing to do with Stevie's label, it's completely independent, much like Destiny Rules had nothing to do with WB for Fleetwood Mac's SYW album. I don't mind the wait as long as it's just that... As long as it's coming eventually, I'm happy. If the rug gets pulled out from under this, then I'll be slightly pissed off LOL. |
PBS would be a great distributor of her documentary I would think and maybe they can mass produce it quick and get it out to the public fast.

All these opinions are making me think the documentary won't come out.

The question is, Is it still hot one year later? And, I wonder what is exactly in this documentary aside from clips of making IYD? |
Didn't dave just recently sign a deal for his production company with distributing documentaries of artists into movie houses and dvd releases. I am almost certain we will see this thing SOMEWHERE this summer.

One thing for sure is the Doc is already beyond anti-climatic at this point , so if it does not come out in some form around the time Stevie is on tour this summer, it will be yet another debacle of missed opportunity & bad timing. However, I'm pretty sure Dave, WOME & Stevie management are scrambling & doing everything they can to get this out with some distributer to recoup some of the costs of filming and editing. |

She'll release it at just the right point in time and space. As usual. |
I know this may not be a popular opinion but maybe the documentary isn't very good...I have not been a big fan of the secret love and moonlight videos. Maybe Daves talents at producing music doesn't transfer to making videos and documentaries. Maybe everything we love about the making of Say You Will wasn't captured in the IYD documentary footage The struggles, decision making, and the conflicts that we saw between Lindsey and Stevie may have been replaced with Daves weird imagery and quirky editing....just a thought:(
|
I was thinking If WB just take the DVD and package it with a copy of her IYD cd for about $25.00 to $30.00.Dave will get his cut WB will get their cut.The IYD cd will get more copies sold in the meantime.
Now if WB did received a advance copy months ago to screen the docu and said forget it.And told him. it wont sell. Thats a different story.Maybe thats the problem Dave is putting up with now. In the meantime I hope they know probably the true Stevie fans like us will buy the DVD. A regular music fan wont bother with the DVD. |

As for the documentary, I've lost all patience! |

I'm not very optimistic about the documentary either. On one hand, we always have to wait for everything Stevie does...nothing is ever finished on time, there's always some reason everything is delayed, so on and etc, so we could very well end up with the documentary.
On the other hand, there is every possibility that: ~ it hasn't turned out as good as they thought it would & they're stalling so that they can figure out how to save the project. ~ WB isn't interested in promoting/distributing it because they didn't think there would be a big enough market for it, so it's just sitting there. ~ they are looking for a distributor other than WB and it's taking longer than expected. ~ Stevie, in her quest for perfection, has vetoed the inclusion of anything that doesn't portray the experience the way she wants us to see it and/or has stamped every last bit of entertainment out of it (much the same way she did in the DR doc when she wouldn't agree to include her argument with Lindsey) because she has to micromanage everything down the slightest detail...and it turned out kind of boring. --> We all know that she does this...you can see this drive for perfection in the way she runs her shows too. Back in the day, during Bella Donna & the Wild Heart, she was much more spontaneous and free on stage and Lori and Sharon were behind her just doing their own thing. Then everything changed and everyone had marks to hit and matching outfits and it was all choreographed down to the last second, etc...and it lost something. It's blatantly obvious in the Soundstage DVD that everything was staged and there was nothing spontaneous about it. Maybe this hyperactive micromanagement has been the fate of this documentary as well. Maybe when it was finished and edited together, the result was a bit of an anticlimax. Now, hopefully no one will be offended by that last bit. I'm not saying she doesn't put on a good show and that she doesn't make a good product because she absolutely does. I'm not saying that the behind the scenes stuff for this documentary won't be excellent if we ever get to see it. Her hardcore fans, including myself, love all that stuff. I'm just trying to point out that Stevie wants everything to be the best it can be and she doesn't understand that we want to have the whole experience - the good, the bad, the boring, the exciting, the unexpected, the mistakes, the struggles - not just the best bits of something. |

yes. release it like how CV was with a CD/DVD combo fold out package thing 2 or 3 extra songs tied in with a few solo dates here and there and interview with Craig Ferguson (my personal fave), her husband Dave Letterman and maybe Ellen and BAM! |
NoFear♥OnlyLove, I agree with everything you just said.
|
I agree too with NoFear♥OnlyLove.you just hit the top of the nail with that 5lb hammer.LOL.We should be used of waaaaaiting for what Stevie or FM to do something.I thought I was slow in doing projects.I guess I'm not the only one.
|
It bears repeating that Fleetwood Mac's documentary was released over a year after 'Say You Will,' and Lindsey's documentary was released nearly two years after 'Under The Skin.'
And for a few non-Mac-related examples, Madonna's two documentaries ('Truth or Dare' and 'I'm Going To Tell You A Secret') were each released a year after they were filmed, and Tom Petty's 'Runnin' Down A Dream' documentary was also released a year after the interview portions and 30th anniversary concert footage was filmed. The wait for Stevie's documentary is not unprecedented and not yet cause for alarm. :) |

could it just be another project she boasted about , and she lost interest in and simply moved on

Someone should ask Dave on Twitter!

IYD Documentary
WHAT IS THE HOLDUP WITH THIS???? It would make perfect sense for it to be out this summer while shes on tour, i just dont understand Warner Bros.
|
I so agree and it's so annoying that this is held up.
And since the thing was shot in HD, if this doc ever sees the light of day, there had better be a blu-ray version of it. |
