Fm Band To Attend Funeral
Straight out
Will/Should/Are/Should They, Attend Bob's Funeral Service if and when it happens? I would think it would be polite and respectful to go. Any thoughts? OF the current line up Mick John Christine ALL SHOULD go LB & SN, Wild Cards thoughts, gut feelings ? |
Out of all of them I would say Mick would probably attend, maybe John. Has Christine ever left England since moving back there from LA after the Dance? I doubt Stevie and Lindsey will attend.
|
I think they all should go if possible he was part of Fleetwood Mac and did leave his mark on the band out of respect they all should go everyone that was in fleetwood mac should attend he was family.

Christine went to NY very briefly when she was promoting her solo album in 2004, but that was apparently under duresss. I can't see her flying out to the US for the funeral of someone, rightly or wrongly, that she had stopped communicating with in the early 90s and had really lost all contact with. I think that John and Bob never really 'made up' after the lawsuit. I can't imagine John attending. |
Danny Kirwan played quite some time with Bob Welch. Perhaps someone (Mick?) could persuade him to go????

Plus, I think Danny is sadly beyond making journeys anywhere now, isn't he? :( |
I give Mick a 50/50 shot of going. He did attend Judy Wong's interment, after all. And the Mac truly has always been his family & life. I wouldn't think he'd hold it against Bob that Bob had sued the band a couple decades back.
As for the rest of the band, I just don't think so. They have routinely snubbed Bob for the past 2 decades (they won't agree to see him even when it was asking for help for his ailing wife, denied his inclusion into the Rock Hall Of Fame, etc). If any of them showed up at his funeral (sans Mick), it would probably just come across as a slap on the face to Wendy Welch. |
I see Mick and Stevie, and maybe Burnette, Vito, and Bramlett going if they can.
|
is there some rule how long after death is the funeral (average length of time i guess)? if it would be next week, i don't see Lindsey canceling a number of his shows to go (i hope he doesn't!) - he has shows lined up for the next 5 days - tonight, tomorrow, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and then 1 day break, with more shows on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. all East Coast.

Well, I suppose Mick, John, and why not Stevie. I don't think Lindsey, because he's touring.
Can't see the last members (Vito, Burnette, Bramlett or Mason) going, but could be a good sign from them if they go. And Christine and Danny...I think they will continue with their "anonymity"... Regards. |

Billy & Bob played together locally in Nashville a few times...Bob has photographic evidence on his website. I'd definitely say that the "Nashville Mac" members would most likely attend...but, that's even if there's a public ceremony.
Wendy might just keep it to the immediate family (Bob's sister, niece & nephew, etc)...but, then, that's just wild speculation on my part. |
I saw the thread title and assumed the band had the told the press that they planned to attend Welch's funeral. Funny way to word the title. I'd like to think that Stevie, Mick, and John attend the funeral. Maybe Chris, too. I don't see Lindsey doing so.

I seriously doubt Chris would fly back to the states for this. And I don't see Lindsey going either - esp since he's on tour. I would expect Mick and maybe Stevie. John? eh. Probably not. And I doubt and of the other era members would go. So sad that he's getting the recognition now. His passing really got more press than I imagined. It was all over the radio yesterday morning and I heard Sentimental Lady so many times. |
man, fm band members are kind of cold hearted , serious, heck I go to services for friends if I need to, pretty sad if u ask me and speakes volumes about fm band members as a whole, maybe ken was right in his book, bunch of ego minded jerks
|
I won't cast judgement on any of the band members on how they choose to deal with Bob's death. It's entirely an individual choice. I'm sure all them will give respect and support to his family in some manner. At the very least, flowers will likely be sent.
Several members have already spoken about Bob being an important part of Fleetwood Mac's legacy. At this point, any ill will mostly be forgiven. |

showed up it could become a circus. And I might be the only one who feels this way. But I find no comfort when friends and family show up at funerals. When my father passed in 2004, he had well over 800 people show up at the wake. It's funny when people are grieving the most, they are the ones who have to put on a show for everyone else. As a Christian maybe I shouldn't feel this way. But I found no comfort at all during the wake and funeral. Or even during the days and days of visits from friends and loved ones. So I think sending a card and expressing your condolences is enough. Unless there's something you can actually do for the family without intruding on their time of grief and sorrow. |

I feel its up to them .if they can make it.I already experienced 4 funerals in the family. My dad was the latest one last February. Some people did show up to pay respects and some did not show.I did not hold anything against the friends that did not show up.
Some of them I did see months after the loss did say I'm sorry about your loss of your love one.I tell them thank you. |

As Ulpian said, maybe Chris will never fly out to the US again in her life: over the years she developed a fear of airplanes. It's called "aerophobia" and it's a real illness, so it's better if she stays at home. She's 69 yo now and it's better if she avoid any stress. Anyway I'm sure she sent a condolence telegram to Bob's family. |

these rituals we have. It's time we re-think the wake and funeral one. |

I always found it ridiculous. |

Ok maybe I'm running out of the topic. But thinking about Bob relatives, or any public figure, I guess relatives got stressed because of the media cover when it should be a private thing. You have a point, no doubt. For example thousands of people wanted to pay respect to Princess Diana (something the Queen couldn't understand), but I don't know if the family really wanted that ceremony with live broadcasts, the boys walking behind the coffin, etc. Ok Bob's funeral is far smaller, but who knows what the family wants. Maybe paying respect thru a webpage is just ok for them and will appreciate enough. Who knows. |
I too have been wondering if there's going to be a funeral. Wendy posted on Bob's FB that they won't let her have him back until next week and also that she's been real busy. I can't imagine there not being some type of memorial with all the friends he had, but it's also possible that Bob may not have wanted such a thing and Wendy would honor his wishes. I can see Bob being that way; he was unique, intelligent and unconventional... not to mention very talented and gifted. We will see, I guess.

I personally find more peace there in private than I ever have at a funeral home. I've said words there that was between them, myself and God. And while I don't believe the person that's passed away can hear you, it still gives a bit of closure to me at least. If their soul has made it to Heaven, I can't imagine them looking down on this world as it is now. There's just too much pain and sadness. The comfort is in knowing that we have the opportunity to see them again. |
