New York June 4th!
Hi guys! I haven't been on here in a LONG time, but I'm going to the show at BB Kings Monday June 4th and am wondering who else is going?? It's general admission, which has me a little nervous as to when to get there and all that. Any suggestions? The last show i went to there was a tribute concert in 2003, LOL, so i forget what it was like.
Thanks and hope to see some of you!!!:] Abbi |
Hi Abbi!! :wavey: I wish I was going ;)
You're going to love it! When I went to Portland show ( my first GA ), I got there right when doors opened ( an hour prior to show ) and people were wrapped all the way around the building! And even though I managed to get near the front of the line, through another entrance, there were still only a few ( very few ) single seats near the stage ( 6th row side ), but I opted for balcony, all the way in the back. The sound was awesome and I enjoyed the show from a whole different perspective than I normally would! Seattle show I got there maybe 10 minutes after doors opened and there were no seats availableon the floor :( I was with a friend and there was nothnig up front for two people. We had semi-reserved seats dead center, though, and stuck with those. However, when we drove past the venue maybe 90 minutes before doors opened, there was no line. So... depends on the place I guess, and how close you need to be. If you're determined to be UP FRONT I'd say get there 1 1/2 to 2 hours before show, to be safe. Or more like an hour if you're not as determined - lol. And of course, if you're anywhere on the floor at all, you can always just wander up to the stage, hope security is nice, and fans aren't pissy, and there you go  |

Viv and Del can comment whether it was the same in Santa Cruz. seems if you want to be upfront you might be good if you get there 90 mins before the official time when the show starts? |
Okay, maybe I've had strange experiences when I've gone but...I've been fairly close in line and ended up pretty far from the stage--every single time (and I think I've been there...maybe 8 times? Something like that).
I think it's totally at the discretion of the person who seats you (and you absolutely don't get to seat yourself). There are tables and booths and I think the booths are reserved for people who bought out the whole booth. The tables seat 8, I believe and, if you're by yourself, they just pack you in wherever they have room. They are pretty close together, too...so, wandering around is not that easy. Now, I have never gone alone--so, it might actually be to your advantage because sometimes a table up front may just have 1 more person they can squeeze in. I'm kind of nursing a bad foot right now so...I'm just going to show up closer to show time and sit where they put me. I have really good seats for Tarrytown, which--hopefully, will make up for BB's. |

I'm going!
I have absolutely no idea when I'm getting there - will be coming from work (in the Bronx) and don't know when I'll get out. |
Thanks you guys for the suggestions. Here is some info which kind of contradicts your suggestions though, haha:
"Show starts at 9pm, doors open at 7pm" SO....even if I get there 2 hours before the show starts, it would seem that this is when the doors open anyway, and therefore there might be a line that is very long by then. UGHHH! I am not going alone, I will be going with my best friend Janet -- she actually used to be a mod on here and was a member for YEARS. Not sure if anyone knows who she is. But anyway, so it's the 2 of us. We both took off work so we can get to the city early, but I just want to make sure that we get to the venue in plenty of time!! But now after what Regina said I'm nervous, because it sounds like they do what they want with you at that place!! Well I hope it's a great night and feel free to come say hi -- you cannot miss us..we're both really TALL! Haha. And hey Lindsfan!!! I miss you!!!!:xoxo: |

I was there once before, to see Neil Innes. 2010 I guess? I still have the ticket stub - was doors @ 6, show @ 8. I don't remember when I got there. I do remember how tightly crammed the tables are.
This time, I will (most likely) end up there around 7 (based on general work leaving time). I still wish it wasn't a Monday - I have work at 8:30 (in the Bronx) the next day and I have to go home to Queens first! :( |
Disclaimer: I haven't been there in probably a year and a half. Things might have changed.
I don't want to discourage anyone. And, they could have just figured I'm a somewhat agreeable person who does what people tell me (in spite of my posts)...so, that could be it. But, those were my experiences. And my mother reminded me that a whole lot of people seemed to have been seated already when we got there for the two shows I saw with her. It's a strange place. I really do hope that they honor the first come-first seated policy, though. Because if you make the effort to arrive super early, you should be seated up front. I will say, though...it's not a super-huge place. So, you can see pretty well from almost anywhere. P.S. I totally remember Janet. |
Try to eat and drink quietly, fellows.

It's probably worth noting that Barack on Broadway, a benefit for President Obama that he is scheduled to appear at himself, is happening tomorrow night as well. It's taking place at the New Amsterdam Theatre, which is across the street from BB King's, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is some stricter regulations in place regarding standing around outside. I don't think they'd close the street until he arrives, which would likely be after everyone is inside, but who knows.
PS - I caved and bought a ticket. It's been feeling increasingly idiotic of me that I wouldn't be going to see one of my most favorite performers in a venue just blocks away from where I work. I am getting excited now! |
Are you kidding me? Tomorrow?
God almighty. I used to get stuck in traffic on the express bus for hours when Hillary Clinton (then First Lady) would just go Christmas shopping. Okay. I'm done ranting. Sort of. |

Yeah, I can imagine the mess. I could think of so many other places they could have done this which would have been less inconvenient for a whole mess of people (not only Lindsey-concert-goers) but all the tourists/all the Bway show attendees. All those hookers...oops. They don't work that street anymore.
But, no. They choose the busiest street in NY. NY-gotta love it. Thanks for posting this, though. I may have to rethink my original travel plans! |
Is there anybody going to the Lindsey concert tonight at BB Kings who would like to purchase a ticket to Stevie's 6/29 Jones Beach Concert:
Orch C B 7 $201.00 I have the printout ticket. My preference is to sell to someone who can make the exchange in person, in public, because I don't know how paypal, etc. works. |
setlist tonight (no change :( ) -
https://twitter.com/hankstera/status...072321/photo/1 please yell for Rodeo people! :wavey: - we know he had it ready a month ago!! |
I absolutely can't believe that they are using that misspelled document over and over again.
How "on the cheap" is this tour? I feel like gifting him with a new typed version of his setlist. Spelled correctly and on a nifty colored paper. |

If any of you fans had a backbone at all, you could easily make a fake setlist and tape it to the stage. It wouldn't take but a few seconds to put it there. Who knows, he might see it and do a few of your song choices. |

I am glad I went to this! Hearing "Bleed to Love Her" live for the first time since I became a fan 15 years ago was pretty much worth it for me. Also, the reaction to "Stephanie" just PROVES how he needs to sneak in more rare songs! While it was absolutely fantastic, I still think some of the volume of the response came from the absolute thrill of hearing something so rarely played!
I was actually surprised by how rarely he used the "backing" setup. I thought I would find it annoying but it didn't bother me at all, it made Lindsey's actual playing very clear and obvious. I do wish he moved around a little more, since I ended up at one of the side tables and wasn't really able to see his fingers on the strings all that much but the screens were helpful. I was sitting with an awesome couple from Australia who happened to be on their first vacation to the USA and saw Lindsey was playing and their excitement was catching! I will never tire of "Never Going Back Again" myself, and I was reminded just how much I love "Come" and "Shut Us Down" live as well. I giggled a bit when at one point, sweat was pouring off of him and he went to wipe himself down. Someone yelled out "take off your jacket!" and he was like "It's surgically attached at this point. It wouldn't matter anyway. I could be stark naked up here and still...." So not only does he know, he also teases. ;) |
So...tell me how crazy (or not) the security was for the Prez. Also, was it the same routine with seating or were most of you pleased with where you ended up? How early did you get there?
(I decided to reverse my plans and drop yesterday/go tonight. I needed to be able to get public transportation because of my foot injury, so...with bus diversions, etc...I figured tonight was the better choice. I hope;-) |

Lindsey you would still sweat without your jacket, but some of the heat would be released. If you get heat exhaustion don't blame us. Please be strong. I know we're not wrong. Anyway, glad that BTLH was such a high point for you. A song that made it from the encore into the solo set list. Imagine that. Michele |
I was there. A great performance.

Hey everybody!! We had a GREAT time last night!! Janet and I got to NYC about 2:30 and had lunch, then met up with another friend and all arrived at BB Kings about 6:45pm. There was already a line forming outside, but not a very big one. Across the street were people lining up to view what was going on with the Obama thing. And even on the same side as BB Kings, people were lining up to get a view of the Obama thing:) On the corner, were 3 lines of cops just standing there like soldiers. But other than that, nothing crazy....
After standing in line only briefly, we were allowed to enter at about 7pm. Since we were now a party of 3, I got nervous as to where we'd be seated... The front tables were all full, or if they were open, they had signs on them stating that they were "reserved." I got anxious!.... BUT, there was one table off to the left side where we sat. When we got seated and looked at the lone microphone stand looming there, we realized "oh yeah, this is just fine!!!" Every seat did have an amazing view. It was a small place, but yes you were right in saying that the tables are very tightly aligned with each other, and the seats AT the tables were also extremely tight!! We kept hitting people next to us with our elbows. We were at the front end of our table with some strangers seated at the rest of our table. Then you were allowed to order drinks/dinner. A sign on the table said there was a $10 minimum to spend. So you HAVE to order something. We drank some and ordered a salad and app. The server announced the last call would be at 8:30pm, and that NO services would be had during the performance. This was good news -- no disturbances during Lindsey!! When it was last call, I ordered a "double" shot of vodka in my baybreeze, and when I got the bill...holy sh*t!! That one drink was $22.00!!! The size of it and strength of alcohol was the same as any bar I go to, but 3 times the price! UGH!!:( So now the good stuff...Lindsey comes out right at 9pm. And is met with lots of screams. The show was great. And you already know the setlist:) Some favorite comments, other than what was posted above...was he mentioned something about his callous. I gues that it came off? And someone at the front laughed, and he said jokingly, "Why is that funny? Have you ever lost a callous?" Someone else yelled out that he was "beautiful" at one point, and me and janet of course made several remarks ourselves. There was a woman seated at the table behind me with a huge American flag all signed. I don't know who signed it, but she said "I am a huge fan". We asked her if she was on the "Ledge" and she misunderstood and mentioned something about a Blues Cruise or something? She looked at us like we should get it, and we were like "huh?" Then she said "Wait, what did you ask me again?" And when we repeated our question, she just said "oh, no I am not." LOL. Here I thought she was one of you guys! I did meet "Gypsy?" in the ladies room. She told me someone made a YouTube video of most of the show. AND....I would like to let you guys know, that I borrowed a recorder from a friend and (hopefully) recorded the entirety of it!!! I don't want to promise anything, and I've sadly never uploaded anything before:o But if I got a decent recording and I figure out what to do with it, I will let you know!! The show seemed so short; before I knew it, it was all over and I was left wanting more. After he came back out for the encore, he did take some things from the very front right side of the stage and he signed for people, then back to business. Favorites of the night were definitely "Bleed To Love Her" and "Stephanie." I read about that on here, but Janet was totally surprised and blown away that he played that one! It was nice seeing that kind of reaction. So that's the night in a nutshell...and i hope anyone going tonight has a great time! I wish i could go again!!! |
Great review! I cannot believe your $22 drink.
That's wonderful that Janet went unspoiled. If you couldn't experience the surprise for yourself it must have been a thrill to see a longtime fan of his react that way. There are still some old newsletters somewhere around that I think Janet did. Fun times. I smiled when you said that when someone said "you're beautiful" and that you had a couple of comments yourself:). See at an FM concert, Lindsey can't really hear the crowd. He can hear them roar, but I don't think he can hear actual words that frequently. So, when he goes solo, he must just drink all those compliments in. Michele |

sounds like that woman may have been talking about a little kids' show called "Blue's Clues" (although i don't know whether that show is still going on, my kids are not that little anymore). i'd love to see you at one of the shows next week - it would be great if we both can somehow make it! :) :wavey: |
OMG Elle, I am laughing out loud!! Hahahahahahaha!!! If I get alcohol in me especially it gets worse! Yes, I think the word "sexy" practically exploded out of my mouth quite a few times. It was no different last night! The woman behind us made a comment about his butt in the jeans, which I managed to (accidentally??) take a picture of LOL. Then the 3 of us were going to say on the count of 3, "Nice Levi's!" but Janet and I felt sheepish. Ha, imagine that!
What is making me laugh even more though, is that my boyfriend lurks on here sometimes and he will totally read what you said and remember that night that he "learned a side to Abbi he never knew existed." Hahahahaha!! He never saw me behave like that, jumping around and screaming. BUT, he's still here. And know what? I hate quiet audiences! I had told you before that Keswick in Glenside, PA last year was dead quiet and it really bothered me because I feel that this would affect anyone up there giving their heart and soul in their performance. So I went nuts in Red Bank! Thank goodness that Elle, a true fan, was right next to me and "got it". Just wait till I upload the recording, if I can....OMG I am so worried that Janet's and my screams and exclamations of our devotion will ruin the recording!!! I kept pointing at the device to her and trying to calm her down, but she went buckwild!! Hahahahaha!! |

Looking forward to the butt photo ;) and any others as well, of course!! I remember seeing a video from, I think, UTS tour where after the song the fan/camera person was watching and following his butt  and then suddenly panned back up as if just realizing what she ( or he? ) was doing! It was great because I didn't notice it myself, since I was staring at his butt too and the person filming had followed the same path my brain was taking anyways :D And, for me at least, I always most enjoy recordings with plenty of audience participation :woohoo: No need to worry about that. Can't wait to hear it!! |
