Constantine Maroulis, Cheyenne Jackson and More Will Perform at the 2012 Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction
By Michael Gioia
31 May 2012

Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages, The Wedding Singer) and Cheyenne Jackson (Xanadu, All Shook Up, "Glee") are among the performers that will take part in the 2012 Songwriters Hall of Fame Annual Induction and Awards Dinner June 14 in NYC.

Also set to perform and/or present at the ceremony, which will be held in Times Square at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, are Meat Loaf (The Rocky Horror Show, Hair), Dave Grohl, Stevie Nicks, Kenny Rogers, Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, L.P., Jerry Moss and Take 6.

Fantasticks and 110 in the Shade writers Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones are being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame alongside Jim Steinman (Whistle Down the Wind), Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Seger and Don Schlitz. The inductees were previously announced in February.

Also honored at the event will be Grammy Award winner Bette Midler with the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award, singer Ne-Yo with the Hal David Starlight Award and Lance Freed with the Abe Olman Publisher Award; the first-ever Pioneer Award will be posthumously awarded to Woody Guthrie. "Stand By Me" is the Towering Song with co-writer Ben E. King being honored with the Towering Performance Award.

Established in 1969, the Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF) "serves as a vital bridge between music’s past and future. In the Hall, musical pioneers are enshrined and celebrated, while the organization’s music community outreach grooms the next generation of troubadours."

The Marriott Marquis is located at 1535 Broadway. Tickets for the event begin at $1,000 each and are available through Buckley Hall Events at (212) 573-6933. Net proceeds from the event will go toward the Songwriters Hall of Fame programs.

Macfanforever 06-01-2012 12:22 AM

Holy cats said Felix.$1,000 each .Ouch.I see alot of good names mentioned. So It looks like Stevie will spend some time over on the east coast and NYC before the Jones Beach show.

StreetAngel86 06-01-2012 06:32 AM

will someone buy me a ticket ... and a plane ticket over???????

i would love to see Stevie give Bette her award  LAAAAAAWD too much awesome

HejiraNYC 06-01-2012 08:12 AM

I'm sorry, but I think the Songwriters Hall of Fame is utter bollocks. I mean, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora are inductees, but none of the members of Fleetwood Mac have been inducted. Why on earth is Stevie answering their telephone calls? They are beneath her.

mezzoforte 06-01-2012 08:28 AM

I covered this for Us Weekly last summer. Boy did I chose the wrong year to intern.

I'll just be weeping softly over here...

My guess: public relations to further expose her new album, since she will already be touring behind it. "Set to perform or present." I suspect Stevie will perform.

Maybe she is trying to raise her profile with them so that next year she can be an inductee instead of a presenter/performer. (Of course that didn't work out with the Grammy Museum, but you never know.)

Well, she's not really starting her tour until the end of the month, so I would be surprised to see her haul all of her band and junk out to the east coast just to perform one song. I suspect she will be a presenter.

The fact of the matter is that Stevie's qualifications for being inducted are beyond repute. In addition to writing Fleetwood Mac's only No. 1 hit single and scoring several Top 5 hits, she gave birth to the undying beast we've all come to love (and somewhat loathe) known as "Landslide." So why would they honor Bette Midler and not Stevie? How many iconic songs has Bette written? Zero?

Thats a good question.Stevie gets involve with this organizations that don't give a sheet about her work .She helps them all these years and at the end .They sheet all over her.

Thank you Skip; AGREED! And as for being inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame as a solo artist? We all may be gone when that happens :(

RockALittle250 06-03-2012 03:09 PM

This reminds me of the Grammy Museum event last fall. I for sure thought that such an appearance meant a Grammy nomination would be a lock....we obviously know this was not the case. Stevie does all of these events and makes appearances, and she is not recognized the way that she should be by these "industry insiders".

Macfanforever 06-03-2012 03:16 PM

I know FM has a star on the walk in Hollywood .I doubt Stevie ever see one.If I was her I'll probably ignore these organizations. But its extra money in the wallet for her .If she gets payed. Pus she will see friends and get out of the house.

I hope in our lifetime.Meantime they seem to pick artists that dont deserve to get nominated .This reminds me of the Grammys.Anyway Especially non rock musicians.

Thats like putting Kid Rock in the Country Music Hall a Fame in Nashville.I do like Kid's tunes.

^^Woot! Couple of questions...

1. Why am I so happy to see Emmylou Harris and Stevie acting all chummy?
2. When did Bette Midler turn Japanese?

The Rose. That's a big deal. And it's vocally challenging too. This will be a treat for SN fans who want to see her doing something new and different. Michele

Holy cow, Stevie looks HOTT. Her outfit is on point.

That picture of her and all those men.... I got a good chuckle

I would think that she is attending to honour Bette Midler.. They have been good friends since the '70's....
BUT.... just why is Bette Midler being honored?? Last time I looked, she wasn't a songwriter?????
d,

jkmaletic 06-14-2012 10:29 PM

I really, really hope we get to see or at least hear her sing The Rose.

On a funny note, can you imagine the pantomiming??

Macfanforever 06-14-2012 11:14 PM

My mom was a big Bette Midler fan.She would of been happy to see Bette with this honor.I remember back when The Rose was on HBO for the first time .My mom would watch it when it was on.Bette is a great entertainer.

I would love to hear Stevie sing The Rose.

The ones with her hands on Bette's shoulders.....is it me, or do the fingers of her left hand look really wonky?

johnnystorms 06-15-2012 01:50 AM

it looks like she has a ring on each finger and the boa is tangled up on the tops of her fingers

To borrow a phrase from Tumblr, ldshfrihcglxrgdlfkdhioh!!!!

But seriously, I'm all conflicted because:

1. If I had seen Stevie singing 'The Rose', I would need stretchered afterwards.
2. Stevie looks great.
3. This Songwriters Hall of Arrant Nonsense clearly doesn't know what the hell it's doing honouring Bette and not Stevie.

johnnystorms 06-15-2012 02:30 AM

they do one award per year to a performer.. it wasn't a songwriting award.

Ah, OK. But Stevie's a performer too. Give her that award then.

johnnystorms 06-15-2012 02:58 AM

i'm not debating the point.. but the award Bette got was for performers who interpret WRITER'S work.

Yep, that's the universal gesture for a river drowning a tender reed.

And I'm not being rational. I'm being a fan who just wants my favourite to get everything. "Those Pulitzer people don't have a clue what they're doing either!" kind of thing.

Hope that's clear.
