Say You Will: Favorite Non-Hit Finals
Very simple folks...Thrown Down vs Steal Your Heart Away
Poll closes in 4 days on May 31st. Part 2 of the contest begins June 1st. |
Steal Your Heart Away.
Easy as hell This one. Mick |
Thrown Down, by the smallest possible percent.
|
Thrown Down.
|
I'm kinda surprised 2 middle of the road songs like these were the finalists? I chose Steal Your Heart Away... I'm still miffed 10 years later that the "wall of sound" Thrown Down was chosen ditched in favor of the rather skeletal version that ended up on SYW. :p

I wouldn't put Thrown Down in Stevie's top 5 songs of all time, but I will say Top 15 at the very least. It actually hurts me inside when I think about it hard enough. Just superb. Michele |

No thinking necessary.....I would vote for Thrown Down over anything else on SYW. Not that I don't like the album, but to me TD is a masterpiece.
|
neither one of these songs would be nowhere near my top pick from SYW - album that has so many extraordinary songs.
but if i was choosing which one to listen to of these two we are left with here, no competition - Steal Your Heart Away. pretty. |
So it turns out that this same exact poll came about in Nov 2010 in my favorite song contest...and now a year and half later...

Saw it live too and I was glad they dropped it from the set, although they tried to do something pretty interesting with background vocals towards the end that I enjoyed. Anyway, it's better than RTTG and Silver Girl. I'll give it that. Michele |

Thrown Down wouldn't even have made
the album if I had my choice. But they didn't ask. |

TD won 31-20 then... wonder how close to that result it will be now. if i remember correctly, in the next round the same people who were saying how it's one of the best SN songs ever recorded and should have been a huge hit, put it in the last place among the rest of her songs in the subsequent poll. |
One of the tougher choices I have had to make. These are two amazing songs. Love them both. Went with SYHA.
|
I actually like the tune Thrown Down. Don't much like Steal at all.. so boring...

http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=45300 ...and here compared to the other Rumours era winners, Thrown Down only had one vote! http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=45364 Of course all but one or two of those songs are now deemed hits and aren't in this contest, so perhaps Thrown Down and Steal Your Heart Away have a chance in this contest... |
Neither of these songs make me :blob2:, nonetheless I went with Thrown Down.
|
Things aren't looking good for Steal Your Heart Away lol. I like the song, but I like Thrown Down better.

Oy, the fact that SYHA was on that Best Buy CD years ago kind of annoys me.
Do people even throw down barricades? Sure, they get knocked down during riots and stampedes, but . . . When I sing this song aloud I always say, "thrown down, like a hurricane." I really love the "shaken your faith" part. And her answer to me is "No, you haven't shaken my faith in you, nothing can do that. You've shaken my faith in the rest of the world and all of the beliefs I'd held dear." This reminds me of the You May Be The One line. He says he sees no fear in her eyes and she says "tell me another lie" and it's like an entire conversation. In my head, the male is kind of manipulating her feelings, play with her emotions to keep the protagonist in the relationship. So, he goes for guilt and says he's so afraid of losing her, but obviously she doesn't care about losing him. This means nothing to her, because, he claims, there's no fear in her eyes. She answers, "tell me another lie," because she knows, he knows, she's afraid and vulnerable. I love it. I love the type of lyrics you can build a world around. Michele |
