Stevie and Fans

Hi all.I was thinking about this for awhile.maybe some of you can enlighten me on it please.

How come Stevie does not have a Full fledge fan club in operation?

I remember she had one years ago.

Have benefits like reserved "Wildhearts" superfan seating for concerts.Backstage give aways and other fan appreciation packages.

To come to think about it after all these years .If Stevie does not have us fans. She will be still waiting tables,Cleaning Lady job or be teaching class somewhere and getting ready to retire at 65 next year or so..

I know some or most rock artists just show up and play a concert and run with the loot.
Also some rockers have awesome fan clubs.

Hum. Maybe thats another reason I love country music. They have Fanfair in Nashville.Plus they are alot more friendly with their fans plus they have great fan clubs.

mylittledemon 04-14-2012 07:56 PM

I imagine the bulk of the question "why" is due to Stevie's record label/management. If there's to be a fan club, there needs to be some sort of incentive. Free concert passes, t-shirts, meet & greets, online Q&A's... something, right? We all know how out-of-touch her entourage is (and Fleetwood Macs) with the fan base. Hell, Stevie doesn't even thank her fans in the liner notes of her records. I mean that's the most basic thing eh.

egg cream 04-14-2012 08:01 PM

Also, wasn't (or isn't) Christopher in charge of her fan club? I think that's all the answer you need.

Yep!

"There is currently no fanclub in operation. The rights to operate an official fanclub are held by Stevie's brother Chris and he opts to not run one."

I find it extremely odd tho that they don't run one. Stevie has such a diehard fan base, it seems like a great way to bring in some extra cash while giving us chiffonheads some amazing stuff in return.

NoLight77 04-14-2012 11:22 PM

This is the most unfortunate thing about Stevie, is her lack of reaching out to the fans outside of the Edge Walk. We cannot communicate with her and can never tell her how we feel unless she is at a record store and we spend the night on the street to see her. I think that's very low. I know of some fans who have waited outside after the show in the cold, and they come from states away, just to get a glimpse or an autograph and she passes them by 9 times out of 10. It's like you have to be disabled to meet her, because that is the only type of person she agrees to meet. What does it tell the fans? Well it tells us she doesn't want to take the time. I'm so glad for everyone who has met her, but I feel so terrible for all the people who have traveled many miles, who have made her gifts, who do not get the chance. One time an old friend told me that she was waiting to meet her backstage and Waddy said to someone else waiting, "You won't meet her." Like, so don't even try. She won't come out. That's very sad.

Macfanforever 04-15-2012 05:36 AM

Thanks guys.I'glad I'm not only the one seeing this problem with her.I wonder what is her problem with her .Is she shy .Or stuckup or something .A typical rock and roller.Or don't give a sheet about us that support her life.

It is sad.To come think about it why we fork over $1000's and $1000.s of dollars to support her every year by traveling around the world to enjoy her concerts.Hearing the same old setlist over and over again. Why bother. If she doesn't want to have good relationship with her fans.I have to give credit for the edgewalk though.

Yes we still love her.

Atlease she does that. All of these years she never came out of hiding.

I agree with mylittledemon mentioning about her dud managment dept which I could never figure out how they operate all these years.

At times .I was thinking about giving Stevie up for some other artist that appreciates their fan support.I guess I love her to much.

WildHearted 04-15-2012 08:15 AM

I don't understand how disabled people get to meet famous people (and I mean this in a completely inquisitive way, my younger sister has special needs so I'm not trying to throw shade or anything hah). Do they just email someone? Like how in the world do you get in touch with them and all that jazz? I once read a book by a girl who has the same condition as my sister and it was all about her life growing up with the disability, and in the back there was a chapter of all the hundreds of famous people she had met and had dinner with and gotten photos with etc. I was just like :O

Sometimes you can get in touch with their "people" directly -- email management, fan clubs, etc. and wait for them to get back to you. Or you can go through a wish-granting organization like Make-A-Wish Foundation. Or you can get a lot of people behind you, by doing a viral campaign online (which is a longshot) or by spreading the word around the community and trying to get in touch with local media who can get you backstage passes or something when a star is in town (which is usually the more successful method).

I'm assuming people mostly meet Stevie through that last method, because I can't imagine her management is that responsive to requests from peasants, and God knows they're clueless about the Internet.

MrStevie 04-15-2012 03:23 PM

I know we hate to find fault with Stevie. Fans usually blame management or her assistant for poor fan relations. Don't they work for Stevie? She doesn't work for them.

I'm still going to defend her a little bit on this. Stevie has a lot of freaky fans. Hello stalkers! :wavey: :D Her people are supposed to keep access limited. Back stage wanderers aren't going to get close.:sorry:

Stevie also has a lot of demands on her time. She can't meet and greet everybody who'd die for a moment with her. It's not possible. So she's selective. She chooses to favor vets and the handicapped. I know it seems unfair. I think it's her way of making a certain type of person who may feel like an outcast, to feel accepted. I always thought Stevie had a special place in her heart for outcasts, but also for vets because her Dad was a vet.

From what I've heard, when fans do get THAT chance, she gives quality time, not just a blow off, "hello nice to meet you." Since she can't give it to everyone, I think that's why she still does the Edge Walk on a regular basis. At her age I'd want to quit that routine in the worst way, but she keeps doing it for the fans. It's the average fan's best shot at having a moment with her. It's more than most fans get of celebrities they idolize.

When it comes to the fan club, Chris is the problem there. He has the rights to run a fan club. Too bad he ripped off fans back in the day. He's probably been asked politely not to run one anymore. ;)

kimmersxa 04-15-2012 04:53 PM

i wouldn't get too crazy on it. the woman is 63. she's been through a butt-load, and i bet you she has anxiety like most artists/recovering-addicts i know. i bet meeting fans and stuff has got to be more stressful in a different way then we could possibly understand.

of course, i actually got to meet her briefly when she did the signing at Amoeba last summer, so i feel like she's been pretty generous with meeting fans. lol. :sorry:

WildHearted 04-15-2012 04:58 PM

Sadly I live in the southeast and have no means to make it out west... so unless in the future she decides to make her way to Atlanta for a signing or something, my chances of meeting her are slim to none.

iamnotafraid 04-15-2012 09:16 PM

Speaking of her attitude about meeting fans...

Here's a suggestion (or question for her), how about
getting up out of your chair the next time you're on
TV meeting or mentoring your fans.

As recently as Idol, and a few years back on the
VH1 Fan Club(title?), she remains seated when someone
tries to hug her. I thought on Idol it made her and Jimmy
look old and lazy. And on the VH1 show it made her look
a bit standoffish, like maybe she's the Queen. Bow before
approaching you peasants. And if I must touch you, I'll
wear my gloves.

But sometimes it can be equally as awkward to try and stand-up mid hug.

think of it this way, i manage a clothing store. my "customers" can come in during business hours. when i leave the store , i don't want them waiting outside asking me to select their outfit, or tie his tie.
not sure what you do, but when you get off "work" do you see clients? or do you want to go home and rest or go get dinner, etc.
haven't you done what you were PAID for??
it seems sort of callous, but we are all in some or another form of business.
Stevie seems generous enough with her time, and upon random, "free-time" encounters , quite gracious. but after ad day of rehearsals, a night of performing, perhaps she just wants to have Stevie-time. should we be-grudge her that?
she can't logistically meet every fan who wants time with her, or the 4-12,000 fans would be lined up waiting their turn.

NoLight77 04-15-2012 10:27 PM

I just want to say that the people waiting for her at the back of the venue have always been, in my experience, very few. A group that starts at 10 gets fewer and fewer as the night gets late. By the end, only 5-6 people remain. It really wouldn't be very stressful for her to meet this small a group. I read a story once where 3 girls were waiting outside at the back, and her limo came out and passed by. The girls thought, "Oh well," but the limo suddenly stopped up the street and backed up to the girls. They were shocked. She got out and took pictures and signed autographs. So I know she can do it. She just chooses not to most the time. I'm all for a fan club, something.

I agree with this. I think she does a fair amount of meet-and-greets, and when she does, she does them genuinely. However, there are many times where she simply cannot do it because of other obligations and still other times when she just doesn't want to do it because she is human and can have moods like any of us. I've touched her hand a few times but never really MET her, and as much as I would love to, I really don't think she owes it to me. After she finishes the show, she has given me what she owes me.

i'm with you on that one.

on a side note: i don't think the not standing up for the contestants who tried hugging her on Idol makes her stand-offish or aloof. honestly? i don't necessarily want to hug every person who i talk to and makes the gesture to hug me. does that make me a bitch or a queen? no, i just have weird space issues. meaning: this is my personal space and maybe i'm not feeling particularly like having other people in it today. could you imagine having to hug every stranger you meet? not everyone has the best grooming techniques either

again, we don't really know her as a person, but i'll say this: she was incredibly warm when i met her at that Amoeba signing last August. she actually took the time to have a brief and unique conversation with me. held my freakin' hand at the very end and looked me directly in the eye and said how much she appreciated me.

APerfectLie 04-15-2012 11:23 PM

I think Stevie cares for her fans immensely, but with all the weirdos out there I see why she doesn't open herself up for everyone to meet. Not only that, but I think the fact that she doesn't go out of her way to meet everyone makes meeting her much more special. Anywho, this topic reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from her:

"I feel lucky that they are still on the other side of that door. When people come up and ask me for an autograph at dinner and they go 'I'm so sorry to bother you, but your music just saved my life' and I'm like, to myself I think, 'what's REALLY going to bother me is when nobody asks for my autograph anymore!' Then I'm going to be sitting there in the restaurant going, 'does anybody want my autograph?'"

I don't either. Although I've never paid that much attention, I don't think any of the mentors typically get up when the contestant come in. Not a big deal, we know she took pictures and signed at least one autograph with the contestants later. Obviously they don't film (or at least they don't show) the entire interaction between the mentor and the contestant.

Exactly what I was thinking! If I were Stevie I would run for the hills after a gig. Who wants to deal with all the nuts? She puts herself out there for the Edge walk and even that has elements of terror for her I'm sure. All I want from Stevie is her music and great performances on stage. Why do we have to touch her, talk to her, stalk her, etc? We as fans are not entitled to any of that (contrary to what many think). We don't know her and we're not her friends. And that's okay!

Seriously. At this point, I resent it when people want to shake my hand. It's ok in an office setting, but outside of that I am thinking, "Really, do we have to?" when a hand is extended. I mean just nod and say hi.

The social hug and kiss between strangers is, to me, disgusting.

The wondrous Judith Martin speaks ill of it, too, and I agree with her.

She speaks of an instance years ago when she encountered the grotesquely touchy-feely Leo Buscaglia. He apparently recognized her (they were not acquainted other than with each other's celebrity), reached for her physically, and grappled her in a big hug. She maintained her civility (natch), but was not pleased.

Her view, aired long afterward, is that people are under no etiquette obligation to suffer the hugs and kisses of strangers, and that handshakes are the polite and accepted way to show goodwill.

We've become a hug-and-kiss society, which wouldn't be so bad if it weren't all so phony. Nowadays you see people doing this all the time on the reality TV shows, and it's squirmy. People are introduced to other people for the first time, and they throw their arms around them and squeeze.

Hugs and kisses show tenderness, affection, etc., among loved ones (family or friends). That status of affection requires time to develop. The idea that you should engage in behavior that mimics that degree of intimacy but do so upon first meeting someone is offensive.

Applying your fist to my fist has become acceptable behavior as a handshake used to be. I'm comfortable with that. I don't want to have direct contact with anyone's fingertips and hands. God knows what they have touched before they touched mine. It always seems when I'm in a social situation the person who has just blown their nose always makes their way over to me for a handshake at some point.

Macfanforever 04-16-2012 11:56 AM

I think I said this before.I hope Stevie does not touch her face. eyes and mouth after the Edgewalk .She better have some of those Sani-Dex Antimicrobial Alcohol hand wipes somewhere close by.Imagine the germs she could pickup from fans.

I don't think the few people waiting outside of the venue are nuts. Or stalkers. Or weirdos. I think they just want a chance to see Stevie or meet her. It's happened to many other people, so why shouldn't they give it a chance?

I think there is nothing weird or stalkerish about meeting a celebrity in a controlled, deliberate manner, i.e., backstage after a concert, at a record/DVD signing, etc. But I do personally think it's not natural to approach someone famous when they are just out and about living their lives privately. I have seen tons of famous people walking around on the street, but I would never, ever feel it within my rights to crowbar myself into their world just because I recognized them or watched/read/listened to/admired their works. A friendly wave from a distance is where I draw the line.

I myself have never run into a celebrity when they are out and about. I have only waited outside after a concert.

WildHearted 04-16-2012 06:14 PM

If I saw a celebrity randomly, and they were someone I actually cared about, I would definitely approach them. If I saw Paris Hilton or someone walking down the street, I'm not going to bother her because that's just excessive and if it doesn't mean anything to me other than a cool story then I'm not going to inconvenience them. But Stevie? Of course I would say hello.

I understand not feeling 'right' about bothering famous people - more power to everyone who vows not to, I suppose. But they are celebrities by choice, so I don't understand the demonization of wanting to meet someone you admire. They're entitled to their privacy, of course, and if you're being a creepy stalker then there are obvious larger problems to deal with....

The only person I have ever met in a non-controlled setting was Miley Cyrus, but that was somewhat atypical because it was on a movie set and I'll spare the details but it was a weird stroke of luck, the whole encounter. I do have a picture, though.

i met her in a hotel giftshop, we were on opposite sides of a book spinner. i wouldn't have stalked her, but there was my IDOL 2 feet away!!! so we had a nice chat. if i had seen her at her gate or something from afar, not sure what i would have done

Macfanforever 04-16-2012 08:01 PM

I probably mention this before on the Ledge.About 10 to 12 years ago .I had a chance to meet Emmylou Harris at her concerts here in Connectcut at the college auditoriums .The show ended about 10pm or so.I happen to be going back to my car at the time.I happen to see her tour bus on the side of the parkinglot. There was a line of people about 10 to 15 standing in line at the bus.So I stop to see what was up.They said they are waiting to meet Emmylou .I said Oh my god. Then they said just stay inline you will have a chance too.The line move and the next thing I was in the bus meeting Emmylou .She signed a tee shirt and notice I had a Stevie Nicks tee on and mentioned "Oh .I love Stevie Nicks.I'm a fan of hers too".I think it was one of the "Enchanted" tour tee's.She's .We chat a couple of seconds about country music in general.Shake hands and went home with a big smile. And this happend again when Emmlou toured the following year.Meet and greet.Handshake ,chat.signed a photo.Today I'm still kicking my a$$ because I did not have a working camera at the time for these moments.I was not expected to meet anybody those nights while going to find my car.

As was mentioned earlier in this thread.Probably time, safety.and other stuff mentioned.

As I watch American Idol to see these kids trying to get a break in the biz.I hope they have a level head and know what they will be up for in the future if they make it..Personally I don't wan't the headaches of that kind of job. This woman"Stevie" has work her a$$ off for almost 40 years of her life for this.

Macfanforever 04-16-2012 08:43 PM

Probably even without a full running fanclub she"Her people" and NicksFix probably work with the venues for good tickets for her close fans.Have it stated in the riders that the venues receive and they got to comply to it.

That was nice they did last year with the signing plus the Wilturn show.

BombaySapphire3 04-16-2012 08:53 PM

Have been a huge fan since the Rumours era.To me Stevie has always been about mystery.I never wanted to meet her because meeting her would likely diminish the mystery. The Edge walk handshake I have done.

I guess, but look at it from her perspective, empathize a little. Would you really want throngs of people throwing themselves at you night after night, after you've worked your ass off on stage for them? Also, she's heard it all before "oh, I love you" "Oh, your songs saved my life." It's all well good, but I'm sure giving her heart and soul (no pun intended) on stage to her fans every night is as much energy as she'd like to expend especially now that she's in her 60's. I don't know, I could be completely wrong, but it looks awful to me, all those fans wanting a piece of you. Ick.
