Who's buying TheLedge?

any takers?

fumidesigns 03-19-2012 02:46 PM

I'd buy. Ban the lames and get FLEETWOODMAC.NET popping again! I wonder if some of the greats would ever consider coming back if they knew the site was under new management......?

lmao! and fumi, out of left field to get this thread locked in no-time flat!

wetcamelfood 03-19-2012 03:05 PM

Whoever it is, I hope they understand them starting as new owner should coincide with me being able to start adding "new" items to the discog (and will need their help with some tech issues to do that). :)

estranged4life 03-19-2012 04:44 PM

Didn't know...

it was for-sale again... (edit - was too lazy to read the post on it being for-sale, so sue me)

Don't look at me, I need money for other things :D

chriskisn 03-19-2012 07:08 PM

I wanted to buy it when Marty was selling but my girlfriend (now wife) wouldn't let me. If I'd been single I'd have done it.

There was for a second a thought of doing it this time when I saw it was for sale again, but financial reality kicked in. Plus my Fleetwood Mac passion ain't what it was!

Oh well we'll see what happens and if things change (like some sort of updates)

HomerMcvie 03-19-2012 07:25 PM

On what page is it listed for sale?

Is there a price listed?

fumidesigns 03-19-2012 07:31 PM

Ima buy. $27 final offer!

OH! My bad. I've conditioned myself to rarely look at those, because they're usually like your Mom warning you about stuff...

iamnotafraid 03-19-2012 08:26 PM

Hmm... What if I purchased the Ledge?
Sure there would be some changes for
the better. Just a few...

1. All would address me as Mr. Iamnotafraid.
2. No more "ignore" feature. Are we juveniles?
3. Price of admission $300 a month.

Just curious if one wants to make a one time
contribution by check, money order or cash,
whom does it go to? I don't like the credit card
deal.

Macfanforever 03-19-2012 11:41 PM

I notice the announcement as it was posted.I thought about it over the weekend.I could probably could swing the cost for buying the site.Which it would be probably will be the total costs of my upcoming Stevie travels.but the monthly cost of running it would hurt my wallet.I notice some other forum that I belong to have a PayPal donation box.Like most of us are alittle larry about where does the money really go.I would not put adverts up.I would not change anything on here .but add a couple of sections in the main forum area.I look at as a hobby to run a website. not a business. I do agree with some of the stuff mentioned here.

fringed n fab 03-20-2012 01:48 AM

Citydata.com is basically the same designed website as here and they have small ads that don't get in the way of ones browsing experience and hey if it helps keep a site up and running, why not? Obviously this site is hurting and just may go defunct here very soon so you have to brace yourselves if it goes offline.

Thanks! And btw, I'm in the market for a bag of flour....(no one here will get that joke:mad:)

I too, could purchase the site, without much problem, but that monthly hosting fee, would feel like being eaten alive, by a Chiffonese Army.

chriskisn 03-20-2012 06:39 AM

It is a pity that more of the regulars here didn't sign up as supporting ledgies. What was it, $12 a year or some such, hardly likely to break the bank.

CADreaming 03-20-2012 07:02 AM

Idea:

If no one is offering to buy and there aren't any lower hosting fees available, if the 31 current supporting members paid $8 a month, the site would pay for itself. Obviously, that would decrease if more people became supporting members.

Mr. Iamnotafraid, you can pay with Paypal and it likely goes to Michele (michelej1). Please PM her for more information.

holidayroad 03-20-2012 08:28 AM

If my husband hadn't just promised my stepson that we'd help him buy a car, I would have bought the site!!

I hope more Ledgies will decide to become Supporting Ledgies!! It costs less than 4 cents per day. Isn't The Ledge worth it??!!

Josh2003 03-20-2012 08:45 AM

I also hope that people keep in mind that there is SO MUCH MORE to this website, THE PENGUIN, than just The Ledge.

Exactly. There is no other site out there for Fleetwood Mac with the information and resources that is offered here. The Q&A's are priceless in themselves. It would be devastating to the Mac fan base to lose all of it.

Wish to goodness it could have been you, holidayroad - would have been in great hands and I know you'd have been so dedicated!

MacShadowsBall 03-20-2012 01:07 PM

Yeah I saw the announcment a few days ago. I just hope a regular/longtime Ledgie buys it and keeps it running good and perhaps freshens it up some, but not too much! Often times when "new" people take over something(like the new pastor at my church :distress:), they change things around to their liking ignoring the reasons why something was the way it was.

...and for them not to take away my poll posting privileges!

ButterCookie 03-20-2012 01:42 PM

If I had the money I'd buy it. Alas, I am a student and very poor. Is there a way a few Ledgies could club together to buy it?

Finally, some respect around here.

Paypal no way. Cash or money order.
Michelej1 are you reading this?

And on the topic of supporting the Ledge.
I would think one could donate any amount
of money from $1 to 1 zillion cronkites. I
doubt it's limited to the $12 annual fee. Am
I wrong?

I should pay just to read my own posts.

3. Price of admission $300 a month.

I think you'd be very lonely here by yourself. ;)

wetcamelfood 03-21-2012 07:03 AM

IIRC, the main reason the site costs so much per month was because a dedicated server was needed to deal with the bandwidth issues caused mainly by the Chit Chat board here. So, let's say there's no buyers. All that like to post on Chit Chat could meet up at another "off topic" message board (plenty around that have OT areas) and I wonder if Chit Chat here was dumped then the dedicated server wouldn't be needed since the bandwidth thing would then not come in to play and thererfore the site might be cheaper to run (and therefore more chance someone could buy it)? Just a thought and wish I understood more about all that tech stuff, I only went by memory when typing out this idea so I have no idea what I was just speaking about but hope it made sense as something we could consider. :)

I'm sure Michele has considered all of her options and weighed the costs/benefits of various plans of action. That said, it sure would be disappointing if what's weighing the site down (cost-wise) is threads about what people had for dinner and what song they're currently listening to.

I think if someone buys it, they would do well to just ask Michele to continue to be the administrator.

That's the way it is at my church. The former pastor/wife are still members and involved in the church, though not near as much cause he accepted another position within the church organization elsewhere.

So yeah for the Ledge, it would be great if Michele and the other mods would continue on in some fashion. Of course it depends on what the new owners "vision" is...

This is a definite possibility if someone buys the website who is not interested in the Fleetwood Mac aspect. FleetwoodMac.net is currently listed for sale in other venues & has had perspective buyers inquire who are only interested in the website solely for it's advertising/revenue potential.

BTFLCHLD 03-21-2012 01:09 PM

I am considering offering FREE hosting if Michele is interested in remaining on board.

Anyone who has any questions/suggestions/offers etc PLEASE send Michelej1 a PM... she doesn't venture into Chit Chat. I desperately don't want to see the Ledge go offline, and I know there are countless others who feel the same way.

That's very generous of you! Thanks for even considering. :wavey:

Aussie W/Heart 03-21-2012 08:58 PM

There is no way i can afford to buy the ledge, tho i am more than happy to become a supportive ledgie. i have never used pay pal, not sure that i want to either, is it possible to send a money order instead??? thanks in advance:wavey:

 i almost feel the same - i want to be able to read my old posts.

seriously though, the place is a treasure trove of FM info, past and present, and one of the first things that comes up on google searches when you are looking for FM-related info. just look at the number of guests checking out the site after that Glee episode.:wavey:

from what i've seen there are only 2 options - to contribute $6 and $12. i did PM Michele suggesting another way. i don't want any contributing member privileges (which are in my mind too large for $1/month anyway), but would like to help the place to stay afloat.

i don't know whether what somebody said about it is true or not, however, if the chit chat forum is what's sinking the site, getting rid of it is a no-brainer in my mind. there are so many other places where people can bs, so i really don't see the rationale for all this FM-related info going down the tubes because of the FM-unrelated chatter.

CADreaming 03-21-2012 09:32 PM

^I agree, a Mac site is a Mac site. But -- the Chit Chat has 32 viewing now, 2nd only to Stevie's forum with 52...

It wouldn't be great if everybody jumped to fb or somewhere else to 'chit chat' and then eventually just stop coming here altogether.

PAYPAL questions...

If you have not paid via Paypal before you may want to ask others who are familiar with how it works. I had a lot of trouble setting mine up a while back and it wasn't an instant thing. I'm sure there is a way around it, but I found it challenging to navigate in at first. I'm not sure if other payment methods are accepted, but as Louie pointed out you can private message Michele directly at Michelej1 or email at [email protected].
