Buckingham / Dashut co-written songs

solo:
Street Of Dreams (Buckingham, Dashut)
Surrender The Rain / Spoken Introduction (Buckingham, Dashut)
This Is The Time (Buckingham, Dashut)
Turn It On (Buckingham, Dashut)
Wrong (Buckingham, Richard Dashut)
You Do Or You Don't (Buckingham, Dashut)

mac:
Book Of Love (Buckingham, Richard Dashut)
Empire State (Buckingham, Richard Dashut)
Family Man (Buckingham, Richard Dashut)
Oh Diane (Buckingham, Richard Dashut)

i'm torn between Turn It On and You Do Or You Don't, although their other OOTC co-writes are pretty great too.

i have no love for their mac co-writes.

Nico 02-17-2012 10:19 AM

I really need to understand this co-write relationship. How did they go from such basic material to utter flawlessness?

And how can anyone select amongst all that flaw-free OOTC stuff?

I chose "You Do Or You Don't" for nostalgic purposes...and because it's incredible.

bluefox4000 02-17-2012 10:24 AM

Out of those I chose Street of Dreams. I've loved that one Since day 1.....pure perfection..

I loved it live from all the recordings I've heard.

Could Lindsey even sing that live now?

McTrouble 02-17-2012 10:48 AM

I wanted to vote for Oh Diane and Surrender The Rain - so I had to flip a coin.

Oh Diane won! :D

elle 02-17-2012 08:15 PM

wow, can't believe all Mirage songs got some votes, but This Is The Time which is pretty great is still at zero?!

bangdrum 02-17-2012 08:48 PM

Voted for Street Of Dreams. Amazing song.

Runner up votes to: Turn It On, YDOYD, Wrong.

CADreaming 02-17-2012 10:45 PM

I'm having a really hard time choosing....

Never really liked that one. It was the one song that stopped me from putting OOTC in the albums where you love every song thread. The way Lindsey sings on that makes me want to punch him in the face.........A little TOO erotic......ghaaaa.

Mick

bucklind17 02-18-2012 10:54 AM

I went with Surrender the Rain because that was my favorite song the first time I heard OOTC and I have continued to love it since. I feel like it's one of the more underrated songs on that album because of how strong the rest are, but it really is gorgeous!

CADreaming 02-18-2012 11:59 AM

Because it touches me on a personal level, I chose "Street of Dreams".

I also really love This is the Time and Surrender the Rain.

As favorite pop songs, Lindsey excels with You Do Or You Don't and Book Of Love.

shackin'up 02-18-2012 07:56 PM

ooohh, tough one!

I went for Book Of Love, because it's an underrated gem in my opinion. But also Street Of Dreams, Empire State, and -in a very competative way- Turn It On could have been my pick....

elle 02-19-2012 12:10 AM

Turn It On live from last fall:

elle 02-19-2012 12:12 AM

You Do Or You Don't live from 1992 (Lindsey first ever solo tour):

elle 02-19-2012 12:16 AM

This Is The Time live from 1992:

elle 02-19-2012 12:17 AM

Wrong - official video:

note magazine cover of "Rolling Bone" at 2:27

elle 02-19-2012 12:21 AM

and... of course we have this version of Oh Diane:

elle 02-20-2012 02:16 AM

wow - 4 songs:

Street Of Dreams
Wrong
You Do Or You Don't
Book Of Love

with 6 votes each!

(and Turn It On right behind with 5 votes!)

if it stays this way we may need to either do another poll to figure out the winner between these, or take all songs with highest number of votes against winners of some other polls into the next round.

EDIT: also noticing, with both This is the time here and Come in another poll not receiving any votes so far, that fans on these boards seem to not be that much into really rocking songs. interesting! have to say that i love these two songs and am a bit stunned at this outcome.

 and... you do or you don't ftw! [or at least takes over for right now:laugh:]

Peestie 02-20-2012 08:36 AM

I went with Street of Dreams but I think I'm more likely to listen to Book of Love. It was very close. All of the other OOTC songs weren't far behind either.

wondergirl9847 02-20-2012 01:20 PM

It.just.gets.more.and.more.difficult!

Sheesh! LOL

Okay, I chose YDOYD because of the "Summer Place" ending. One of my fave songs ever included in an OOTC tune is just.....awesomeness.

Surrender the Rain is another fave of mine and I had a hard time with those two, but the SP ending sealed the deal for me on this.

ha, i had to google that . wonder whether he knew that's what he was doing or it was just spontaneous and he didn't immediately realize where it came from? look at the veins on his neck while singing that!!

"After all, "You Do or You Don't" actually quotes a melodic line from "A Theme From A Summer Place." ("I always loved that song" recalls Buckingham. "It always takes me right back to 1960, and it just seemed to have the same emotional tone I was looking for")" - from here :)

poll closing soon...

thinking of closing this poll soon... some time tomorrow morning possibly.

lbfan 02-21-2012 06:54 AM

This Is The Time

That song was amazing live, with each guitraist (and LB had an "army" of guitarists) getting a mini solo.

elle 02-21-2012 08:51 AM

5-way too-close-to-call

here are ongoing poll results for Buckingham-Dashut collaborations:

You Do Or You Don't - 9
Street Of Dreams - 8
Wrong - 7
Book Of Love - 6
Turn It On - 5

since all these songs are within a vote from each other we will need to continue voting for a while longer. we need a clear 2-point lead (or difference) between songs going forward.

39 people voted so far.

I totally agree. YDOYD was making this tough for me though. These polls are evil :distress: Pure evil!

OK...Street of Dreams for me

elle 02-21-2012 07:14 PM

Street of Dreams and You Do Or You Don't

Street Of Dreams and You Do Or You Don't both have 9 votes, 2 more then the next song - Wrong with 7 votes.

therefore, both Street Of Dreams and You Do Or You Don't move on to the next round.

this poll is now closed.
