2012 Fleetwood Mac Contest
Well it is time for a new Fleetwood Mac contest. In 2010, we did favorite Fleetwood Mac song, while last year we did least favorite song.
Here are the choices for the next contest. Vote for the one you would like to see done. Choice A - Best of Christine, Lindsey, Stevie This contest would take the best of both FM and solo songs for each performer and create an 18 song "Best of". For example, "The Best of Stevie Nicks, 18 songs chronicling her songs from 1973's Buckingham Nicks album through 2011's In Your Dreams." This would be done for each of the Rumours era vocalists. Choice B - Favorite Non-Hit Song This contest would remove the songs that are/were deemed hits and find the favorite song among the others. Choice C - Favorite Live Performance About 4 peformances for each song they peformed live would be eligible to determine the favorite live performance. Once each song has a favorite live performance, they will battle it out for Overall favorite Fleetwood Mac peformance. Choice D - The Ultimate Fleetwood Mac: 18 Songs That Every Fleetwood Mac Fan Should Have This would create an ultimate 1 disc best of Fleetwood Mac. Due to the lack of participation from the Pre-Rumours Ledgies during last years contest, these contests would focus mainly on the Rumours/Post-Rumours era albums and songs. Opinions or comments let me know! |
Non hit song would be interesting.
|
I voted non-hit as well.

although i think the non-hit idea might be interesting in general, i like separate best-of for each songwriter even better.
my reasoning: b/c of uneven numbers of fans for each songwriter among registered members on this board, i don't follow polls where songs from 3 songwriters are pitted against each other. in such polls, songs that are the most interesting to me tend to be eliminated fast. |

I'm torn! They're all good. I'll have to think it over.

Generally, as long as there is a Stevie song in the poll, it will win regardless. Quote:

I voted for the best-of lists- it would be nice to have a well-rounded compilation put together for each songwriter.

Choice A - Best of.....
Can we do all these polls one after the other? :D |

I love all of these ideas but... I voted for non hit. I think it would be interesting to see what could come out on top!

I think that the concept of contests that pitch songs against songs are ridiculous. But to each its own. Over time I've lost interest in them. Yet interestingly, I still have interest in poles. (insert smirky smile here). |

...and until Fleetwood Mac get their act together and give us another album, what else do we have to do!?!?!?! |
I went with A. It could be fun, grueling, and a little bit offensive.
Trying to narrow Stevie's/Lindsey's/Christine's entire catalog, both solo and FM down to 6 songs each? Sonds like a blast! |

Non-Hit sounds a good choice!

18 is the perfect count.
That's how many tracks are on Say You Will. ;) |
As for solo best-ofs: I am a staunch believer in Singles collections. If there are too many singles, then I believe in establishing some sort of charting position ("Greatest Hits"). I totally hate random "best of" collections that have no basis in history or reality but instead are based on the arbitrary whim of some accountant at a record company.

how about Lindsey? 6 solo albums plus 6 albums with FM. plus some extra singles / film songs. Christine? tons of FM albums, 2 solo, and Chickenshack ones? [would you count singles? i guess you would need to if you are going with entire catalog from each of them.] so, they are all probably at about the same number i suspect. i like 18 as a starting number. we tried to get lindsey down to (i believe?) 10 songs in the recent thread and it was really really painful. most people had to go over 10. you can always follow up by slimming down to a smaller number after that... Yeah, the actual amount of songs that the three have put out is about the same, but Stevie's are more popular......... ;)
I saw that Lindsey thread, so yeah 10 songs is really hard. Only official releases would count. Also stickly mainly to the album version of that release. Certainly things can change before the contest begins based on the overall view of Ledgies, but we can't be changing the rules once the contest begins. |

anyway - i don't know her solo songs either way - same as you don't know lindsey solo songs i presume   [actually, i barely know lindsey's FM songs from Mirage and Tango ;) ] Quote:

I know his albums and a few songs by name. I'm really a Fleetwood Mac fan first and foremost, so I know his Fleetwood Mac songs. If and when we do the 18 songs for Lindsey, I would need somebody that is more of a Lindsey solo fan than I to officiate those polls. |

Obviously that's if you don't have anybody else in mind. Don't want to step on any toes... |

I really want to include Pre-Rumours songs in the non-hits contest, but I'm concerned about whether or not there would be enough participation out of the Pre-Rumours Ledgies, particularly among the Peter Green/Blues era fans. I could just start with Future Games and go until Say You Will , including of course the Post-Rumours albums. Thoughts? |
I choose B= Favorite Non-Hit Song. It think that would be interesting.

Okay Ledgies, looks like our next contest will be to find the Favorite Non-hit Fleetwood Mac song of all time, including all FM albums - Pre-Rumours, Rumours, and Post-Rumours eras. Hopefully more that just 3 Ledgies vote in the Pre-Rumours polls!
Here's what I'm thinking... 3 threads per album. The first thread would be "Rate these songs from 1 to 5 stars." The second one would be the nominations thread for all the non-hits, and the final thread would be to find the favorite non-hit song from that album. Confused? |
I'm gettting the final touches worked on for the new contest. The first thread focusing on the '75 album will be posted tonight.
|
Any suggestions on how to handle this contest with the Pre-Rumours albums/songs? According to wikipedia, the top 20 hits in the UK were "Albatross", "Man of the World", "Oh Well", and "The Green Manalishi".
