So what is it with Stevie and ugly men!?

I was wondering why a beautiful woman such as Stevie has dated....uh well...some not so attractive men.

Okay, so Lindsey was the exception to the rule, but...

Mick Fleetwood
Jimmy Iovine
Joe Walsh
Rupert Hine (?)

Yikes!....

Silver Springs 01-22-2012 11:01 AM

Although I would never dane to call Mick "ugly" (Well...maybe during his Uncle Fester period) I am so glad you didn't add Lindsey to this list lol.

Honestly. I would have been concerned for your safety.

XD

I 'm guessing her judgement was impaired and/or she didn't have on her glasses.

maybe she's not so superficial, and is attracted to the person or a quality they possess , just cuz the package is pretty doesn't mean what's inside is good

I guess she's just not as superficial and/or shallow as most of us. ~Looks beyond the surface, etc.

Yes, I think she likes people she perceives as talented. Then, once you love someone, you think they're attractive anyway. When she said her brother was handsome, I don't think she was being kind. I think she believes Chris Nicks is gorgeous. She may have realized that Waddy was ugly when she first met him, but I wouldn't be surprised if she considers him quite handsome now. Heck, I think Mick is gross a lot of the time, but after all these years of being an FM fans, I truly see beauty there on other occasions.

I always thought Mick was hideously ugly until this century. Now I actually see him as an attractive man. Rupert Hine is hideously ugly, period. However, I haven't seen a pic of him past 1989. I often have thought that I wish I could look past a cute face and into the soul of a man. Truthfully I am so tired of searching for love that I wish I would wake up one morning and never again be concerned with how cute a guy is and really fall for someone I truly LIKE being with. But it will probably never happen. I don't know if it's a gay guy thing or not but cuteness always seems to be the number one factor in a relationship for me in deciding if I want a man or not.

Back on topic, because this thread is about Stevie, I've often thought that a woman would be with a homely man because he could take care of her needs financially and in Stevie's case that he could help her become more successful somehow.

I don't think Mick's looks have improved this century. Your change of view probably has more to do on what's happened to you on the inside, than what's happened to him on the outside.

And for me, voice alters my perspective too. Obviously, Mr. Wonderful and Heroes are Hard to Find album covers give me nightmares. But sometimes when I hear Mick's clipped, dulcet tones in an interview, I'm kind of charmed. His sound makes him look nicer. Then, again his personality causes him to lose the ground he's gained. I think of the guy who proposed to a woman who just got out of bed with another man and I'm repulsed all over again.

Yes. Mick mentioned that even though Rhiannon was a hit from the start and he also told her how important she was to Over My Head's success, Stevie was still insecure about her place in the band. I have no doubt that part of her attraction to him was the fact that he was the head of the group in which she wanted to solidify her claim. If Lindsey made any move to push her out, aligning with Mick would give her the power needed to fight back. Of course, I feel she did the same thing in Fritz. She'd have had a 40 year love/hate relationship with Bob Aguirre if she thought he had the potential to go places back then.

We gravitate towards those who might offer us security, career wise, home wise, financially and it's not necessarily a calculated thing. It's often instinctive. Just the way you start nesting when a baby is on the way. You are physically and emotionally drawn to things that might bring you comfort and stability.

I wonder when she was done with that? When did she feel she was independent enough to not have to seek a relationship with a man based on her need to secure her place in a band or use them for career advancement?

Good thing she realized that Lindsey could do greater things than Fritz. Otherwise, maybe they would still be in San Francisco singing in steakhouses...

Do you girls find Jimmy Iovine ugly? I guess he is not a movie star, you may find him not attractive, but ugly is a hard adjective, I guess he is a simple guy, that's it.

Yes, I think Stevie looks beyond surface. The point is that she was a hot girl, a rock goddess, and people usually wants to see "golden couples" among artists, icons and stars. But.. life is real. Life is real! (Freddie Mercury)

Sorry I can't find an episode where Mick proposes to Sara, nor a description about jumping to Mick's bed after proposing. He did tell she moved to his home (circa 1978 or Tusk recording days) when she was still married (did you mean this?), but Mick & Sara got married in 1988, far later:

And I'm most happy to say we're friends with Lindsey again. He came to the wedding when Sara and I married under a marquee outside our house in Malibu in the spring of 1988. Later that year we dedicated Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits to him, with much love.

Did you mean about Sara being married and living with Mick? Or did I missunderstand?

It didn't say she jumped into bed with Mick after he proposed. It said he proposed when she'd just been with another man. I don't know who the other guy was, but he worked for the band.

Oh yeees, now I found it:

When Sara left, she had moved into her own place in Marina Del Rey, but she wasn't there. Then I heard on the Fleetwood Mac grapevine that Sara was in Hawaii with a boyfriend. This concept made me so queasy that I flew to Maui, arriving in time to practice in the afternoon with the Fleetwood Mac softball team, which was seeing action that night. John McVie and I were in the outfield. "Looking for Sara?" he asked contemptuously. I gulped. "You'll find her over at my house with . . ." And McVie named one of the dashing technicians on our crew. My heart did a backward flip! I dropped my glove and drove over to McVie's. I knocked on the door, but there was no answer. So I went in and knocked on the bedroom door. "Wait a minute," Sara said.

She came out in a robe; she and this guy had been asleep. She was very angry with me. I got down on my knees, told her I was sorry, and asked her to marry me.

"Mick," she said, "you must be really out of your mind. I'm not marrying you."

I told her the whole story of the Blob, and Sara laughed in my face. "You jerk," she said.

She was right, so I groveled. I swore I'd be good. I swore I'd reform and not be crazy. I swore I'd take care of her. She said she'd think about it, and eventually I left. In the end, she came home.

Good nominee, but I bet John McVie wouldn't be so keen to let Curry hang out at his place as a house guest after all the making love fun Curry had been doing with certain other people.

Well, i'm a girl and i think that Jimmy Iovine is kinda cute, except for the terrible haircut and eyebrows problem. He has a great smile. I like him in this video where sings Blue Lamp in the studio.
Mick is not too ugly either, he's got something.
But, you know, i kind of get why she still talks about Lindsey after all those years. He is the best she ever had :). Well, at least, physically.

speaking from experience, yes, gay men are shallow. It goes like this...
1. Looks
2. Sex

Once the looks or sex slow down or fade, or better yet someone better looking or with better sex comes along, you are dumped... That is just how gay men are. That or they realize they are not even good friends, incompatible, hate eachother or some stupid reason. This is why lesbians joke about the second date they call the Uhaul or gay men joke that the second date means they are in a long term relationship or cant make it past 4 years. These things just are not like real relationships that usually begin as friends or lovers and "Blossom" into something more real. In fact, I have been turned down by acquaintances and friends I asked for a date because they "dont date friends". Seems like a stupid rule. Basically it is saying "I only date one night stands that I want to have a series on on going one night stand with". The relationships that mean something are the ones that are based on friends and something past the initial "OMG he is SO cute". Sadly, Stevie's one or two or three "True" loves were either drug addicts, pigs, or too famous to be held down. Maybe she is flawed too, putting her career(s) first etc etc.

If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, make an ugly woman (or man) your wife (or husband). Trust me... us ugly people are WAY more appreciative and try much much much harder to please. ;-)

I created this thread to be light-hearted and fun.

In no way am I judging Stevie for who she chooses to date.
Some folks need to lighten up a little.

It's all in fun. With that said: One wonders why so many men in her life have been ass-ugly. lol

fringed n fab 01-23-2012 08:02 PM

I don't think all gay men are shallow and I'm definitely not superficial. I find all different types of men sexy or beautiful in different ways and someone doesn't have to be the most drop dead gorgeous in the face to be sexy. I create threads all the time showcasing what I find nice in someone and it's really about the different attributes I find sexy in men. They're examples, bits and pieces if anything. For instance I couldn't get over the movie Joshua the other night on Showtime (it's also on Showtime demand HD, at least on Comcast down here) and I have always found something so sexy in Tony Goldwyn, even though he might not be beautifully handsome in the face, I find him so adorable and manly, hunky. And such a nice mouth too. :)

I suppose Lindsey and Don Henley are probably the best looking men she was with, that we know of.

When Lindsey wrote "packing up, shaking up is all you wanna do" I wonder who he might be referring to. Was Walter Egan one of them? It seems she goes mostly for fellow musicians - those we know because of their fame. Surely there must be some who aren't famous. Has she ever dated an actor?

She recently made it known that she had a romance with someone she met in Italy. I keep thinking it was some rich old bloated Italian man. But I'd like to think it was a younger good-looking guy.

How shallow. Here's me thinking a connection on a more personal level; ie personality and such, was far more meaningful than how they rate on the looks spectrum.
