New Letter from Stevie on Nicksfix

There is a new letter from Stevie on Nicksfix about her mother's passing.

Travis 01-19-2012 01:13 PM

Awwww :(

I'm going to cry ...

sleepless child 01-19-2012 01:30 PM

I thought the same thing. I wondered if Stevie would reach out to her fans. I thank her for even thinking of us during this difficult time. Love you Stevie.

ali101 01-19-2012 01:30 PM

How considerate to post this letter during such a difficult time, which shows not only the great love and respect for her mother but also that Stevie intends to continue with the new lease of life she has experienced with IYD and make her mum proud. If she is on a mission then we are all here - Don't listen to her, listen through her!

Good luck Stevie.

"Don't listen to her, listen through her
Some Christmas angel
Freedom well give that to her
Oh, if that's what she wants, guardian angel...guardian
If you were wiser you would get out

And the light that shines through the shining night
Is a lamp that I carried from my mother's home
And the light that burns through the window pane
And the love remains

And the guardian of your "Challenge" does not cry... "

And how much love is in those photos? Sounds like Stevie is doing okay and has lots of support. That makes me feel a bit better for her.

Thank you for posting the link, jalfim1. Last mention from me on this, I promise: IF you would like to donate to the memorial fund that Stevie and Christopher set up for Barbara Nicks in lieu of flowers or cards, you can do that here:

http://www.onlineredkettle.org/BarbaraNicks

It can be any amount- $1.00 or whatever you would want to donate. There is a place for you to leave an online message if you choose. You may also donate anonomously. It was set up for family, friends, and fans.

yes.... and love transcends all and defies the boundaries of life and death.

GoldDustBoy 01-19-2012 02:28 PM

That is really so sad. :'(

Sanne2 01-19-2012 02:34 PM

Omg tears everywhere :(
But it sounds like she's doing okay, considering the circumstances

gypsy4life 01-19-2012 03:41 PM

Pictures were touching...so loving..

GODDESS6 01-19-2012 04:07 PM

i'm glad i wasn't the only one who cried reading this~ those pictures are so sweet~

KarmaContestant 01-19-2012 04:43 PM

Very sweet. :)

Drummergrl 01-19-2012 05:35 PM

That was so sweet of her, and it made me cry too. A picture sure IS worth a thousand words, and you could just tell by looking at those pictures, the love Stevie had for her mother, and vice versa...very sweet.

SuiteShangriLa 01-19-2012 06:51 PM

wow that was very nice of Stevie to share that with her fans...
i was fine until the part "im not gone im right here and your arms are around me and you are singing to me and we are dancing" part. jeez that really hit.

AnthonyMI 01-19-2012 07:58 PM

how sad. I hope Stevie never smokes another cigarette because of this.

louielouie2000 01-19-2012 08:06 PM

I will go ahead and be the first person to bring up the fact that Stevie didn't make any specific mentions of a tribute album in this letter. This would have been the ideal venue for doing just that. Perhaps the folks who felt the Enquirer article was bogus were right. In any case, Stevie needs to mourn her Mother and let her family & close friends encircle her right now. That's really what's most important. :)

desertangel 01-19-2012 09:28 PM

Okay I'm crying and haven't even read the letter yet. Gonna go read it now.

OMG... ya, the second paragraph sounds like she's workin at keepin' it together. That second picture... awww, man. Amazing story and a familiar one where the smoking is concerned. Hope she can stay strong.

Wing24 01-19-2012 09:51 PM

Leave it to Stevie to write a beautiful letter to comfort us, her fans, during such a trying time for herself. :(
Once in a million years...

Absolutely agree! I despise cigarettes and have lost a number of family members to both cancer and heart attacks attributed to smoking. Especially with a family history of heart disease, smoking is a recipe for disaster. Her mom's susceptibility to a lung illness like pneumonia cannot have been helped by severe emphysema. Such a shame.

Too many women look to the short-term effects (weight loss) of smoking, thinking the long-term stuff will never happen to them. Stevie, we love you. Please stop smoking!

Tears...

I sent a card 2 weeks ago...anyone else? ;)

Would someone be able to post Stevie's letter on here? I'm blind, and I use talking software for my computer, and I went to the Nicks Fix, and my computer doesn't read the letter. Very disappointed because I wanted to read this. Thanks so much.

Ashley, I've typed out the text of the letter below. (I've removed Stevie's idiosyncratic punctuation, though, because I don't know if it will mess with your talking software.) The letter also includes two pictures of Stevie and her mom. In the first, Barbara is hugging Stevie while Stevie stands with her eyes closed and her cheek pressed against her mom's. In the second, all you can see is Stevie's back as Barbara hugs her and gives the camera a huge smile.

Now, on to the letter:

As you may know, my sweet little mother passed away on December 28th. She had pneumonia and very bad emphysema. Her doctors treated both of these conditions with everything they had, but her little body just couldn't fight anymore. She was 84 years old, and if you can possibly imagine this, she had been smoking for 70 years. If she had not had such bad emphysema, she probably would have lived to be somewhere between 90 and 100 years old, as most of the women in my family seemed to live forever.

My mother always told me that I had been on a mission to take my music and my poetry to the world since I was 4 years old. She knew how overwhelmingly proud I was of "In Your Dreams" and I know right now she is whispering in my ear: Don't give up that fight because I am gone, because I am NOT gone. I am right here with my arms around you, and you are singing to me and we are dancing.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This picture was taken by my cousin, Ed, unbeknownst to me, at Christmas in 2008. That a treasure.

There is so much more I would like to tell you about my mom, and I will, eventually, when I feel up to it. Thank you all for caring and reaching out to me. It means the world.

Stevie.

P S - Christopher and I would like to thank John, Ed, Lori, Sandy, Jessica, Arwen, Jessi, Karen, Kelly, Joan, Patrick, Minette, Linda, Grace, Coretta, Dawn, Dr. B, Corey, Vanessa, and all the doctors and nurses at the hospital. And the Nightingales for going on this most difficult journey. We will always love you.

That was really nice of you girlboymusic. I figured it needed to be retyped due to the funky font Stevie used and I hoped someone would have the time to type it out for Ashley. Thanks!

jcfree 01-20-2012 02:32 PM

That was so sweet of you girlboymusic to reprint Stevie's letter for someone to be able to hear it. You could just feel the emotion reading Stevie's words in the letter about her mom, she really does have a gift for touching people with her words! Could not help but get emotional reading Stevie's letter, my mom has COPD too from smoking for decades. The pics under the letter definately spoke of the genuine love between mother and daughter.

Ashley 01-20-2012 06:37 PM

Thank you somuch Girlboymusic for typing Stevie's letter. I really appreciate it! Stevie's letter was so touching. I was tearing up as I read it. You can just feel the love that she has for her mom. I'm sending all the prayer in the world to Stevie, Christopher, and the entire Nicks family. May God grant them strength and comfort.
