When She Comes Down comparison...
"Go, Lassie, Go" by The New Christy Minstrels...
"Wild Mountain Thyme" by The Byrds http://die-augenweide.de/byrds/songu...tain_thyme.htm |
Seriously, no one hears it?
|
I think I hear it A LOT in the chorus of the The New Christy Minstrels. Wow, so much... The arrangement and mesh of The Byrds song is very indicative of WSCD. Gosh, those are really great examples.
Beautiful songs. |
I hear the comparisons too. Especially in the first one. Great find!
|
Cool! Thanks guys. I was playing Pandora radio yesterday and almost fell over when I heard the New Christy Minstrels version.
|
Whoa, Lindsey totally ripped that Lassie song off.. Great post CADreaming. The chord structure is the same. If they sung his lyrics, or vice versa, they could pass for one another.
After SAC, this also makes me sad.. But thanks for the insight CAD! |

WSCD doesn't have a feeling of an irish folk song to me but i can see the resemblance in chorus, especially since the words are so similar during that part too. i don't know enough / am not musical enough to hear what the chords are, so i will leave that to Spikey and people who can hear them. |
cool water?
talking about irish folk songs, i always just assumed that Cool Water demo that FM did is a cover of some irish folk song. does anybody know whether that's correct - and if so, was that the name of the original song?
EDIT: ok, so my lack of knowledge about FM comes through - FM's Cool Water cover is apparently B-side to Gypsy. thought is was just a demo. and it's not a folk song - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cool_Water . either way, i love macters' version of it :) - and like it much better than WSCD :sorry: |

I just came across this, CAD...from 8/24/11 Huffington Post interview:
MR ( Mike Ragogna ): Okay, the song, "When She Comes Down." One of my favorite folk songs is "Wild Mountain Time," and I love how you have a little nod to that in the chorus. LB: Yes, exactly. MR: Obviously you have a love of folk, in addition to a love of all kinds of music. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-r...source=message ------------------------ |

actually, reading the words of Wild Mountain Thyme, they reminded me of "lay me down in the tall grass and let me do my stuff". pulling wild thyme all around purple heather and laying down in the mountain flowers - maybe lindsey's connection / drawing inspiration from that song goes much deeper than just WSCD?! see lyrics here: http://www.rampantscotland.com/songs/blsongs_thyme.htm |

Yeah, we know the Mir-ANNE-da one. I'd forgotten about DOR though, thanks for reminding.
I know Lindsey said explicitly that Come was about Anne Heche, in case anyone's unclear- it was in an article on the.. either the Madness Fades website or this website. Something like, "Oh, you figured that out? Quote:

Speaking of Miranda, I watched the 48 Hours Hollywood crime special (with the Natalie Wood story featured) and learned about a woman who called herself Miranda and had phone "relationships" with a ton of male celebrities in the '70's and 80's. I had to wonder if Lindsey might have used the name at least, tongue in cheek. "Miranda is bringing the stars down." |

Of course, the other meaning is that he tried to keep her out of his mind. Tried to compartmentalize and keep it, her, out of his main thoughts when he had other things to attend to, which clearly he has said he has done with Stevie. So, I can see a Stevie there, but is speaks to me more of Anne and also her aspirations to be famous. That's why I think she's going in style. Stevie has a lavish lifestyle, of course, but they made it to success together and I don't know if her extravagances are as noticeable to him as Anne's would be. She had no career when he knew her, but she was aspiring and always wanted more than she had. So . . . I attributed those lines to Anne. If anything I think harmony is about Stevie, but actually about both of them. Old harmony v. new harmony, maybe. Michele |

Lindsey met Anne when she was living with Steve Martin. Are you telling me he dated her too? Then wrote songs about it?
Call me a wuss but I'd never go out with a friend's ex then brag about it. But I'm not a rock star. |

lindsey and steve martin are friends? |

They've been friends since before Fleetwood Mac. Probably not anymore. |

The way Anne described their meeting, she did not know Lindsey at all. They met on a plane. He was listening to drum tracks on a cassette and she thought he was a drummer and he just smiled about that. He gave her his name and number and she told a frriend about him and the friend told her he was in Fleetwood Mac.
I don't think Steve Martin and LB were the hanging out together type of friends. Michele |
