Cool! That's good news. It's probably good for Stevie to immerse herself in her work after losing her mama. I hope some great music (and some catharsis for Stevie) comes from this.

"Plans to''

jellyman10 01-14-2012 05:13 PM

Stevie has a pattern of turning to 'Doctor Work' in difficult times and it may be that this is another such occasion. Whatever happens, though, it'll be fine with me as long as it's the right thing for her.

gypsy4life 01-14-2012 09:00 PM

Great news!!! This will probably help her more than anything else could..

bluefox4000 01-14-2012 09:10 PM

In music lingo that usually means.......don't bet on it:nod:

Thqanks for more news on this.A Stevie tribute to her mom .country style.See y'all in Nashville.

BombaySapphire3 01-14-2012 11:02 PM

Not sure if I believe it could be out by the summer but I am very happy she now seems to have regained her muse as a recording artist. In fact I would not complain at all if she put out a new album a year until her own projected retirement age of 70 .No need to mount any health wrecking and no longer financially lucrative tours behind them either IMHO.

PenguinHead 01-14-2012 11:10 PM

Hopefully, with Dave Stewart's influence, she will actually make good on this proclamation.

With In Your Dreams, he certainly made her realize that, with a particular work ethic, an album can be created in a reasonably short period of time.

Agreed!! I saw on Twitter that he is working on his new album already...The Blackbird Diaries hasn't been out long...he has a workaholic vibe it seems.

seanthompson 01-15-2012 09:54 AM

Who is producing? Dave?

Hawkeye 01-16-2012 06:41 PM

I just realized she technically has until September 19th to have this album out "by summer" I know I along with most of you picture a June/July realease date when you hear summer. But technically if she realeases an album on September 6th, that is by summer and that makes it seem way more possible to get done.

Fannymac 01-18-2012 07:49 PM

Two things have doubting this ~

1) The source material is the NATIONAL ENQUIRERER????? C'mon!!!!!

2) Most labels are plotting out their second and third quarter releases right now, and, according to a friend at WB, Stevie's nowhere to be found in that period.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a "rumour", plan and simple!

Is there any reason it would necessarily be on Warner Brothers? Genuine question.

tabruns 01-18-2012 10:23 PM

True, doesn't Dave have his own label? Maybe it will come out on that.

Spikey 01-18-2012 10:28 PM

As long as it's less folky and country and ROCKS, this is the best Mac-related news since LB's album.

But if it's National Enquirer..

Is there a possibility that WB is leaking this 'news' to generate hype or better yet, to test the waters a bit?

I would like to see her jump to a new label.I dont know what kind of contract she is stuck with. She can spread her wings and try something new.

Warner probably wouldn't put it on their roster at this point, given that it hasn't even gotten started yet, but if Stevie did pull it together that quickly, they could always add it later.

That sounds like summer or the fall time. This month is almost shot.If thats the case she got to go gung ho and slap a dozen or more tunes together in months to get a summer release and do a summer tour too.

:laugh: I'm thinking exactly the opposite! More folky, more country. I think rocking in yer sixties is .... Look, she does it well, but it's not where her future lies, in my eyes.

I've a feeling the summer tour was already on the cards, so it would be a case of mixing up the set to include a few tunes off the NEWEST new album!!! **this is where I normally wake up**

Macfanforever 01-18-2012 10:58 PM

I think its about time for a full fledge country album .It will be better then her friend Taylor Swift ever put out.Or l agree on the folk side like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and the Eagles style. It wont hurt to try it out.

Spikey 01-18-2012 10:58 PM

I guess I should revise my statement, I have no problem with FWIW, one of my fave Stevie tracks is "That's Alright".

I definitely don't like the country stuff on TISL to a lesser extent IYD, but I also don't like country music. Folk music and folk rock is a different thing to me, as my wife said the other day, FM was often a folk rock band.

Really, I just wish she'd have more faster paced numbers. I'm not expecting Stand Back or Edge 2. Just a few more "Wide Sargasso Sea"'s and less "Cheaper Than Free"'s.

But if it's a tribute album, that's kind of another situation altogether anyway.

Yeah, I'm with you on that kind of 'Too Far From Texas' wallpaper-country thing. No time for that, have I.

Hahahaha."this is where I normally wake up" That was funny. So that gives her 3 to 4 months to do the job.Wow .On a summer tour.I agree.I hope she finds time to hit Europe too.
They missed out the last time around. All of you over there agree on that.

Spikey 01-18-2012 11:05 PM

Funny you say that, I was cringing about "TFFT" live with Natalie Maines, downloading one of the AHI Benefit shows.

Yeah, that's the kind of thing I meant. There's another one or two, is it ED? Maybe it's something else. Anyway. I shouldn't be too disparaging, I love SN and will buy whatever she releases.

Macfanforever 01-18-2012 11:09 PM

Or she can swing the tunes to 1940's 1950's tunes what her mom liked when she was young.I would love to hear Stevie sing with a big orchestra. That will give her chance to take a break from rock and roll. That means I get a chance to wear a tux at a ballroom show.Hahaha.Like those old black and white movies.

Hahaha sorry about that.I love country music .I never got into the Dixie Chicks until they did "Landslide" That cover made me respect them more.

Stevie is still signed to Warner/Reprise. (And, God, I hope she doesn't work with Dave on this project...it'll need a....lighter...touch!)

Etisl 01-20-2012 11:39 PM

Maybe she is just going to do a part 2 to In Your Dreams.... it seems that some artists are doing that. Robyn did that.....she put out one part of a CD, and then put out part 2 months later...... I think it would be great if she pulled out some old Gems.....that the fans have always loved.....

"Three birds of Rhiannon" would be sweet.... If her musicians...can get the music down, it really would not be a challenge for her now. She has so many songs that we have never heard.....and at this point in her career...she doesn't really bow down to the record companies "not much" anyway. So, hopefully she will do whatever music she wants and not care about trying to sound...like everyone else. That's what she did with IYD....and well, she produced a great product. Either way... NEW STEVIE = Happy fans. :]:]:]:]:]

I was going to post my own thoughts, but you took the words right out of my head.
Stevie slightly transitioning into a folk-rock, country vibe seems like a natural evolution. But she will always "rock a little."

Interscope!!! i wish FM had gone to Interscope for Say You Will, but i bet band politics didn't want to be on a label with such a strong Stevie connnection.

Just cause Jimmy Iovine runs Interscope doesn't mean diddly squat. The prime roster over there are hip hop artists. Jimmy knows where the true dollars are in the business today and is well aware that a FM or SN album is not going to make him a millionaire (again).

I disagree. I know lots of people love the idea of Stevie being more folky and country, but I just feel it is so typical. There are tons of female country artists and it would be expected that a woman in her sixties would mellow out and embrace country. Some fans may like it, but it isn't anything that hasn't been done before and isn't anything that would stand out. Stevie doesn't need to mellow out, she needs to rock more! She needs to go balls to the wall and make a statement that women and people in their sixties can still kick ass in a genre that is dominated by young males. Artistically, it would be ground breaking. How would it fare commercially? Who knows, but she'd definitely get some recognition for it instead of just becoming another face in the Country and Adult Contemporary crowd.

Stevie doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. She has the recognition. Yes, she is a rocker, but her country leanings have been there since the beginning, and there has always been a balance between the two.

Your idea of her going "balls to the wall" is interesting, but what exactly does that mean? Do you see her drastically changing her approach, and do an all-out heavy Led-Zeppelin-like album?

She's still going strong for her age, but what can we reasonably expect from her? There is a lot of dignity in not trying to compete with or act like someone who is 40-plus years younger.

Stevie has been very consistent in her music style. However, the idea of her doing a more weighty, Waddy/guitar heavy album is intriguing.

I see your point, and I think you're absolutely right that going the softer, country/folk route would be the predictable choice for an artist at Stevie's age. But I don't know if she would become just another face in the AC crowd because she brings with her the fact that that's not all that she is. A country album from Stevie would be just that: a country album in a sequence of rock and pop-rock albums. And I think that's more interesting in PR terms than belonging in that genre all along.

Having said that, the real question to ask about Stevie's next album is really about the one after that. She's 64 in May, but where is she heading, at 65 and 66 and 67 years of age? I would argue that she has already proved that a woman can rock in her sixties, and there's no need for her to distort her artistic ambitions to trailblaze unless that's really what she wants to do.

But if I had her ear, I'd be pointing out that if IYD tells us anything, it's that she has always had a foot in more than one genre, and to me that suggests that she should think in terms of planning at least two albums: a pop-rock one and a mellower country-folk one. Just make all the music that's in her heart to make. All of it, Stevie! All of it! :D

Oh don't get me wrong, I love Stevie's constant balance of Rock, Pop, and Country in her albums and if her next album is to be one of the same nature, I'm down! But if Stevie decides to consciously make the decision of either going more country or more rock, she should definitely go more rock IMO. Going country would just be so very unoriginal and more of something the industry would push for because it is more commercial and safe. And by balls to the wall, I don't mean that Stevie should become screamo or into anything that she isn't, but to embrace her rock side a little more, bring in some more guitar and some intense vocals and wails, stop praying to the commercial gods, ignore what the industry says, and make a crazy, wild rock album that she loves and is capable of.

WildHearted 01-22-2012 10:54 PM

I think Stevie should just stick to making music like she always has - a mix of whatever it is her heart is feeling, pop, rock, country, whatever. Don't mess with a good thing, etc.

Macfanforever 01-22-2012 11:05 PM

Will it get radio airplay.Nah.IYD got sheet airplay.
