If Stevie put out a tribute cd for her mom consisting of covers...what are the songs?
I would love to see her cover...
At Last(Etta) This Bitter Earth(Dinah Washington) Wheels (Lone Justice) Lady Sings the Blues (Billie Holiday) The First Cut is the Deepest (RS) If You're Only Lonely Sky Blue & Black (Jackson Browne) |
My dads favorite tune is "At Last"which her moms music era is the same as my mom and dads is.Stevie can get an orchestra and do covers of those old classic numbers.I would love it.

Good call on the Jackson Browne track too. I mentioned Stevie doing These Days in another thread. Of course if they're songs that have a direct link to her mother they may all be older songs, if the Enquirer is to be believed at all of course! |
As I've mentioned before, Stevie could knock Cat Stevens's "Wild World" out of the park. I know the lyrics are about a romance, but they seem to fit a daughter leaving home just as well.

None!!!! Stevie has a Volt full of untouched gems, i would rather listen to Stevie's penned songs, than covers any day..:sorry: tho id still buy it anyway:D

It won't be covers. She's apparently composing a new album
|
Wasn't there a song mentioned by Barbara called "Angels" that Stevie recorded a demo of and gave to her, and she said it was one of her favorites. I imagine that would be on it.

^^ Touched By An Angel
Im thrilled to read that Stevie has penned 10/15 new songs, tho im sure TBAA will be on this Tribute Album as well.. |

If the Enquirer is to be believed at all, it says she's "hoping to write 10 to 15 new songs" and that she's "composing" the album.
Not that they're correct, but if they were, that would mean brand-new, Stevie Nicks-penned songs, not covers or demos (and that she hasn't created them yet). Of course, we all know how these things progress (or don't)...plans she has made can change radically as they move forward. Her own comments about future projects have not been that reliable either...and grief can be an exhausting process that saps your energy and make you wonder why you're bothering with anything at all. |

WILD WORLD Now that I've lost everything to you You say you want to start something new And it's breaking my heart you're leaving Baby I'm grieving But if you want to leave, take good care Hope you have a lot of nice things to wear Then, a lot a of nice things turn bad out there Ooh, baby baby it's a wild world It's hard to get by just upon a smile Ooh, baby baby it's a wild world I'll always remember you like a child, girl You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do And it's breaking my heart in two 'Cause I never want to see you sad girl Don't be a bad girl But if you want to leave, take good care Hope you make a lot of nice friends out there Just remember there's a lot bad, and beware Ooh, baby baby it's a wild world... |

I agree with you. I've been lucky to see her four times, up close, in cool small venues in Portland, OR. Sadly the first time I saw her (You Gotta Sin to Get Saved - a great album) she was really sick, and could only get through about five songs. She apologized, but, understandably, it was a very short show. |
One of my favorite singers is James Morrison - his recent album features a lot of songs about the loss of his father. They're great because they're not sad songs -
One of my favorites is called In My Dreams (haha). It has a great Motown 70's funky feel to it. I've often thought about Stevie singing James' songs, since his writing style would fit her voice so very well. James Morrison- In My Dreams, Lyrics Since you’ve gone Nothing seems to fit no more Nothing’s as it was before Everyday Is a battle that I just can’t win I know I won’t see you again But I keep waiting for the night I close my eyes and hope you’ll find me sleeping Cause in my dreams, We can spend a little time just talking In my dreams, We are side by side just walking Oh well the feelings that we used to know The places we used to go Are all still there, In my dreams On the front of the crossbar of your bike We can go any place, anywhere you like In my dreams And as hard as it seems.... Till then I’ll wait to see you again In my dreams Don’t you wake me up I don’t wanna go nowhere I could wait here for a zillion years You’re gone too soon I know I’ll never get the chance To say the things I never said But I keep waiting for the night I close my eyes and hope you’ll find me sleeping Cause in my dreams, We can spend a little time together In my dreams, You can live a little longer Oh well the feelings that we used to know The places we used to go Are all still there, In my dreams On the front of the crossbar of your bike We can go any place, anywhere you like In my dreams I hope some day this pain I feel will fade... Till then I’ll wait to see you again in my dreams Yes I’ll wait, I’ll wait to see you again in my dreams I’ll see you again in my dreams Well I don’t know where and I don’t know when But I know I’ll see your face again In my dreams... |

Knowing how prolific a writer Stevie is, and that her diary entries become her songs, I would assume she has volumes she has written over the years about her mother and all they have gone through together.
Perhaps she will pull some of those ideas and finalize them. That's my thinking. I could see her throw in a song or two that mom liked, def something from Barb's era. Just a note: Stevie's mother was a fantastic person, so supportive and a real "roll-with-the-punches" kind of woman. It's hard to be a parent to any child, but to watch a daughter go through so much in her life, to be there for better or worse, to love and accept all, is amazing and takes a very special, strong woman. I can only imagine how devastating this is to Stevie, so whatever form this tribute takes will be a form of healing for her. Hugs to Stevie on this greatest of losses. With respect, we are as close or as far away as you need us to be. |
My Dad and I have a song. We heard it together for the first time when we went to America together. They played it at Studio B when we went for a tour. So I would like to hear her cover End Of The World by Skeeter Davis. I've already decided that when he passes (Many many years from now hopefully) I want it played at his funeral. The song I wanted to be played at my Nanna's funeral, something I was listening to when I found out she'd died, is Calling All Angels by Jane Syberry. Both I feel could be beautifully done by Stevie.

Well, I don't know about cover songs... if she were to do that I hope she would choose some of her mother's favorite songs (not sure what those are exactly).
But, if she were to write new material, I would love something with a Blue Lamp reference... since the Blue Lamp is tied to her mother... And as we all know how Stevie and Lindsey are into cycles and recycling... LOL! Or at least some new updated photos of her with the famous Blue Lamp to go with the new album.... It's the lamp that I carry from my mother's home... You're gonna have to run over me because we're not going without the lamp! LOL! |
