Enquirer article about Tribute Album

The article states that Stevie is working on a tribute album, for her Mom, and wants to have it out by summer. It also states that she intends to update Silver Springs, and that she is hoping to write 10 to 15 new songs.

Macfanforever 01-11-2012 09:35 PM

I never beleive the Enquirer .but we never know. But it sounds great.

Aussie W/Heart 01-11-2012 09:35 PM

This is fantastic news:blob1: 15 new songs :D:D

mikephxaz 01-11-2012 09:41 PM

wow...if this could ever be true....i wouldnt put it past Stevie to show us all wrong and surprise us with something like this.....

louielouie2000 01-11-2012 10:01 PM

Am I the only one who thinks cover songs when I hear "tribute album?" A Stevie album of covers amounts to my worst nightmare. I can't imagine Stevie could write, record, mix, and release a full album of all new songs in 6 months. Though she certainly could pull off a cover album in that kind of rapid timing. I could certainly see her recording an album of her Mom's fav songs, songs which make her think of her Mom, etc.

icinglover1995 01-11-2012 10:25 PM

Oh wow! That's going to be AHHMAZING!!!!

Etisl 01-11-2012 10:58 PM

Do you think maybe it will be an album with outtakes, and songs that did not make it on In Your Dreams? Although, it would be nice to see her put out stuff faster....like she did during the 80's.... I mean she had three complete CD's between 1981-1985....maybe something or someone ignited that spark again.... If this article is true, then I would be very happy..... but, I don't want to get my hopes up high.

THINKABOUTIT 01-11-2012 11:20 PM

I hear you all. A tribute album seems like covers to me....but you never know ;) God knows she could pull from all her demos & unreleased stuff! We know those better than she does

If this is true, of course I'm totally excited! :D If it is cover, I wonder what she'll do? Her voice can't just do any song

TakenByTheSky23 01-11-2012 11:44 PM

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Out of sorrow comes beautiful art...Stevie knows that as much as anyone.

A link from contactmusic.com about the album:

http://www.contactmusic.com/news/ste...te-mum_1282747

A source says, "Stevie always finds something positive in the worst situations, and no one's surprised at her decision to write a tribute album to her mum."

That's encouraging, and hopefully indicates no covers. Ambitious, but again - people can produce their greatest works out of loss.

How about their quickest work...well, we'll see.

HejiraNYC 01-11-2012 11:47 PM

Well, I actually consider the National Enquirer to be a pretty accurate source of information, especially in recent years. Invariably, time after time, their "rumors" eventually pan out in the mainstream media. So if they're reporting this, then there must be some kernel of truth. Of course, saying something and actually following through on it are two totally different things.

Stevie Nicks - Stevie Nicks' New Album Will Be A Tribute To Late Mum
12 January 2012 01:42

Singer Stevie Nicks is reportedly recording a new solo album as a tribute to her late mother.

Barbara Nicks died in Arizona at the age of 84, with her famous daughter by her side, on 28 December (11).

The Fleetwood Mac star later spoke out about the devastating loss, admitting, "She supported me and all of my dreams. She was the one that made it all possible."

And now the Landslide singer is set to remember her mum by composing a record in her honour, according to the National Enquirer.

A source says, "Stevie always finds something positive in the worst situations, and no one's surprised at her decision to write a tribute album to her mum.

"While sitting at Barbara's bedside, she recalled the tremendous influence her mother had on her life... Stevie has been writing constantly and wants to have the tribute album out by summer."
I wonder if this is going to be the album we've all been pining for- that "small," low-key, intimate album that does not have any commercial aspirations. I'm not sure how to feel about this. On the one hand- it's more Stevie music and a needed artistic outlet for our grieving Mama. On the other hand... I fear that if she rushes and puts out a half unfinished album full of somber elegies, she may sully her artistic reputation. But then again, it may be one of the best things she's ever done. Oh Stevie... I hope you're doing the right thing!

TakenByTheSky23 01-11-2012 11:59 PM

Looks like we scooped one another there, HejiraNYC! It will be interesting to see how many other news sources confirm this...

Also interesting, with this new info, to examine the rest of this year in terms of how it will shape up for Stevie. We know she wanted to spend the spring touring again to keep promoting IYD...incredibly hard when she's writing, recording and producing an album.

If the album does materialize and it does drop sometime in the summer, will she combine IYD material plus tribute material in a late summer tour instead? The songs on the tribute album are, obviously, going to be very personal and emotional for her to sing onstage. Maybe she'll never sing any of them live. She'll put it out as a quiet tribute to her mother and that will be that?

You're right - it could be astonishingly beautiful - if it's a tribute album to her mother, it surely must be. I'm sure Stevie is doing a lot of thinking right now...some hard decisions to make - again, if the album comes to light. It will likely be an interesting year.

Macfanforever 01-12-2012 12:52 AM

I wonder if this tribute cd would be a bonus with the DVD package.Again lazy radio wont play IYD and probably wont even look at her new cd.We will see.

Pyewacket 01-12-2012 02:23 AM

I hope this is right. The Enquirer tends to take a kernel of information that's true and then spin something else out of it, to make it newsworthy.

I also feel a little....greedy and ghoulish, wishing for this album to be true in the wake of what must be devastating news for Stevie. We all know she says things off the cuff, and this could just as easily prove to be one of those things, said in the passion (and sadness) of the moment.

If it were low-key and sombre and not at all rock'n'roll, it could actually be one of the most beautiful things she's ever done.

Continuing being ghoulish....I wouldn't want a whole album of "Beauty and the Beast"...but maybe she would do some covers that her mom liked.

PolishStevieFan 01-12-2012 03:10 AM

I hope it's true and that we'll get new material very soon. This can be a good thing coming out of this tragic loss. Of course my question is: "What kind of album will it be?" I really want her to record lush and intimate country album. But whatever she decides to do I will support her.

darklinensuit 01-12-2012 03:25 AM

I wonder if she might just re-do some of the demos that her mom liked.
I would think she might throw "Touched By An Angel" on there as well.
She has talked a lot about how quickly she wrote songs like "You May Be the One" with Dave. I think she can have something together by the end of 2012 if not the summer. The talk of summer is meaningless: at this point, does any Stevie fan actually still expect an album by the first (unofficially or even officially announced) due date?
Less touring and more recording is a step in the right direction, especially for someone who says she wants to be remembered for her songwriting. I miss the days when the wait between albums was short.
However, I can't say I'm excited to see a re-worked "Silver Springs". It's fine as it is and got enough attention in '97. Something like "Gypsy" seems more thematically appropriate and might do well with a less 1980s/keyboardy sound. Since most people out there never heard the AFI acoustic version, maybe it's time she roped LB into the studio & recorded that, maybe with the lyrics a little bit tweaked to fit her mom.

I'm with louie onthis. Perhaps a covers album but with an updated version of Silver Springs to close, since the song is so linked with Stevie's mother. Personally, I always link the song to Lindsey though and can't imagine another version that the 2 we already have but these things are subjective I suppose.

Not sure if it's fitting for a tribute to her mother but I still say Stevie should cover Jackson Browne's These Days. :D

APerfectLie 01-12-2012 04:18 AM

Anyone have the actual article from the Enquirer?

Meowi 01-12-2012 05:29 AM

When she says a 'Tribute' album, I get the idea that it's and album in tribute to her mother.

Aussie W/Heart 01-12-2012 06:59 AM

^^^ Yes that's what im thinking too, sounds like Stevie has in mind to include her Mothers favorites, released( Silver Springs) & unreleased demos:thumbsup: , most probably Touched by an Angel triggered this whole great tribute idea to her Mum:angel: Bless her.

This is amazing news. Not sure what to think about it. Stevie has a tendency to proclaim things that don't come to fruition. In this time of her grief, she has her best intentions at heart. We'll see.

Writing is definitely Stevie's outlet for stress....I hope this is true!
It could be a healing experience for her with the result of something beautiful to show for it.

TrueFaith77 01-12-2012 10:00 AM

It reads to me like it's about new songs (she's been writing a lot this article or the other one says).

Also, we don't know how much work she's done over the past year writing songs or recording demos... that stage could be mostly done with now the need to express some feelings about her mom's passing.

Plus, above all things, she needs to outdo Lindsey's output!

As for the Enquirer, they had been reporting on John Edwards' love child forever before it finally broke through the msm (i.e., when it was most advantageous to BHO). MOst tantalizing are those stories that never break through the MSM (e.g., Larry Sinclair).

skuncles 01-12-2012 10:25 AM

I don't buy it for a second. Stevie has NEVER written, recorded and released a BRAND new album that fast ever! Not to mention she has said that she wants to continue promoting In Your Dreams this spring and summer. I just really don't see this happening. My guess is someone probably over heard her say "My next album will be dedicated to my mom"
Also the article refers to Stevie's mom as her "mum" which is an English term for mother. I highly doubt you will be seeing a new album from Stevie this year.

Don't forget there were actually interviews conducted about the "Rumours" anniversary edition with bonus material and all these wonderful things that never materialized. Also the "Live In Australia" album that never came to light. The "Tribute" album is not happening anytime soon, if at all.

Good points! Also, take into account throughout history Stevie has talked about many projects she planned on doing. Most of them have never gone beyond talking.

Yeah I didn't actually read the printed article, I've read the exact same story though from other sources on the net and they used the word "mum". This same story (almost verbatim) has been posted several places.

Josh2003 01-12-2012 11:31 AM

Maybe it's true, maybe it isn't.

Maybe the Enquirer has a source who is close to Stevie and company, maybe it does not.

Maybe Stevie did say all this...but we also know that, if Stevie had followed through with everything she said she wanted to do, we'd have had, for many years now, the Goldfish/Ladybug book, her book of poetry/artwork, the Rhiannon movie, etc...those were all things she said she wanted to put out within the year after "announcing" them.

Maybe she is truly moved to do this for her mother, and has been hit with such motivation and creativity that she does pump out a new album in the next few months and independently releases it or releases it through Dave's label (he has a label, right?).

Anything is possible, although I'm not necessarily putting a lot of weight into it.

seekerj 01-12-2012 01:40 PM

Ok, but when did her mom become her "mum"? Is this the Dave influence? Is she going through a phase where she thinks she actually IS English, like Madonna did?

There is no doubt Barbara's passing has struck Stevie to the core & may have also just lighted a huge fire under Stevie, who we well know, has so much unfinished business & promised projects to tend to. Stevie focus could be razor sharp right now. I don't think it's unreasonable at all to think she could pen & record an 11-12 song album quickly & have it out sooner than later.

Yes, Stevie's has been somewhat of a procrastinator, and had every excuse in the book about taking 10 years to record another record. But I really think time is of the essence now, Stevie must realize this, and her mom's passing has made this more of a reality. Through Dave Stewarts encouragement & creative enthusiasm, he really showed Stevie a different way of recording was possible, in that it doesn't have to be tedious & torture.

If you think back to 2010, Stevie & Dave began writing and recording the bulk of IYD late Feb -April at her home. Short break in May (when Dave had oversea "Ghosts" commitments etc.), resuming in June until the beginning of July - laying the remainder of the musical tracks in the studio. Then Stevie toured that August. After which that autumn was overdubs & getting "Soldier's Angel" just right. Finishing off all recording & mixing by the end of November 2010, The record was completed (aside from artwork) by Dec. 2010. So all & all IYD was recorded in 5 months over the span of 10 months at best. And it was held another 6 months for final release.

Taking that all into account, along the rumored possible inclusion of a "Silver Springs" re-recording, probably from a more intimate approach. Throw in the huge possibility & potential of "Touched By An Angel" getting re-wroked, or re-released, plus her pulling from her VAST supply of vault songs. Just add 4-6 newly written songs & a possible "cover" song of sentimental value to Stevie & her mother AND bam...there's your new record - completely in the realm of possibility. And If this project happens, it will be a more somber, intimate and serious record with a lot less hoopla than any of her releases. Which would mean less marketing spin, a more low-key release & unveiling. I imagine from Stevie's point of view, the pressure is off now. She just released her 1st album in 10 years with aplomb & acclaim - now that must have been nerve-wracking to unveil. The hard part is over. I believe Stevie is now on a creative mission, or at least I'd like to believe. So I remain optimistic, something positive and cathartic will come out of this for Stevie & her fans in one way or another.

I agree with the statement she could get an album out by this summer once she puts her mind to it. And although she wants to pen new songs probably from new lyrics that have to do and are inspired from her mom's death, the fact remains she doesn't ever need to write another song again. She could - if she wanted to - just go to her vault and record those songs. They could be given to a producer today and be done in 4 months easy.

Please don't compare Stevie with the talentless shill Madonna. As for the tribute album if it indeed is released the earliest it will be seen is very late 2012.

I guess it could be done, but I'm not holding my breath. Although if we look at the manic recording she did on the heels of the Wild Heart for Rock a Little, a vast amount of material was recorded not long after the first album. But that was a different era. Considering that she's pumped about the results of IYD, and rightfully so, maybe she's got her recording bug back and truly will surprise us with another amazing album hot off the heels of IYD.

Artemis 01-13-2012 11:14 AM

With all due respect, I wouldn't be surprised if her mother passing has made Stevie realise that she simply doesn't have the time to wait ten years in between albums anymore. The impression I get from "Tribute Album" is an entirely new studio album, but one dedicated to her mother's memory. Which would be a very beautiful, and a very Stevie thing for her to do.

Although, I think if Stevie had her way, instead of caving to people at her label, she would have had an album out in 2005 - just 4 years after TISL and 2 after SYW - and carried on making albums on a more consistent basis, rather than getting stuck into touring again and again. So it wouldn't surprise me if she does have a new album out this year.
