Oh Daddy vs. Oh Diane
Because I like comparing songs with similar titles...which one do you prefer?
|
Oh Diane far outstrips Oh Daddy in my mind. I tend to find Christine's songs a little wet for my tastes.
|
Neither one are my favorites, but as far as album versions go, I'd say Oh Diane. I much prefer that outtake or demo or whatever it was with Stevie doing a lot of backup vocals when it comes to Oh Daddy - there were some moments of really beautiful harmony there.
|
Oh Daddy by far. It's one of my fav Christine tunes. I think it's dark, mystical, and epically beautiful.
On the other hand, I think Oh Diane is a bad joke. To me, most of Lindsey's Mirage tunes are simply vehicles for thumbing his nose at the band & record label's negative reaction to his Tusk experiments. Since Lindsey's Tusk songs were too radical for everyone's tastes, he recorded a bunch of songs in the least inoffensive genre possible: 50s pop. I just find most of Lindsey's Mirage tunes (Oh Diane included) to be highly disingenuous. |
Oh daddy is probably my 2nd favorite song on Rumours.....no joke. I love it. Love the vibe. Love Chris's voice......Everything. :]

Well, I've been talking about Oh Diane in the last days. I really prefer this, or its demo or outtake.
But I must say too, that Oh Daddy is not one of my favourites. With Sugar Daddy, these songs are maybe the lowest of the first two albums with the classical team. I love Christine's voice, but...well...sorry Christine! Regards |

Oh No!
I'm not voting between two disparate songs...songs like... Say You Love Me - Say You Will Love In Store - Love Shines - Love Will Show You How That's All For Everyone - That's Enough For Me - That's Alright Never Make Me Cry - Never Forget |

And "Oh Daddy" is my pick. |

Hate - Oh Daddy
Love - Oh Diane |
Oh Daddy has a permanent place in my Christine Top 3
|
I just voted for Oh Daddy. No Sweat. That's easily the better song, better performance and better production.
|
I'm one of few that actually like "Oh Diane". However with "Oh Daddy" its in my top 10 Christine songs.
Like others have said the demo version of "Oh Daddy" on the Rumours deluxe edition is awesome! |
Much prefer the demo version to Oh Daddy than either of them. Although, I have to be in a really specific mood to handle woah, oh, oh, woah oh Diane over and over again. So, Oh Daddy, I guess, by default.

The fact that Oh Daddy is not winning by 100% in this pole is almost as tragice as Gore "losing" the 2000 election.

Oh Daddy, don't stop!

Oh Daddy!
A haunting song & vocal. Oh Diane just sounds like a completely different song from the 50's era. |
Well, I didn't say "I hate these songs!" (Oh and Sugar Daddy), but I think Christine made other good songs in the same years, like Songbird or Warm ways, if you want ballads, or You Make loving fun if you want a song to dance. But they're fine, I agree!
Oh Daddy is not bad, but I think there's something missing in the song, like if it doesn't inspire me nothing, if you understand... Thanks windbecame! Oh Diane, is a funny song, but too short. And after I heard for the first time the outtake, I really love the two versions. Yes, it's like a 50s song! Regards |
"Oh Daddy" is one of Christine's best IMO. The version that appeared on the Rumours reissue bonus disc is awesome.
"Oh Diane" is a guilty pleasure. :o |
I'm with the crowd that loves Oh Daddy. I think it's absolutely brilliant and so very beautiful. I get chills every time I listen, and it really reminds me of Brown Eyes which is equally dark and gorgeous.

Oh Daddy, hands down. It gives me goosebumps every time. I'll never get sick of it.
|
To be honest, I don't feel passionately about either song. I went with "Oh Diane" because I like the music. But it's definitely not one of LB's finest moments, in my opinion. And "Oh Daddy" is a little tiresome for me.:sorry: I can't really say I'm big on either.

I do love Oh Diane but of course I prefer Oh Daddy. In particular the version off Rumours disk 2. Stevie's harmonies are to die for and the bass is mixed in better.

I voted for "Oh Daddy" which ranks among Christine's most beautiful and memorable performances. The title might suggest sappy fest in the vein of children's music but once you listen to this stirring ballad you know it's special. On the other hand "Oh Diane" is nice but nothing special, it's kind of song that probably Lindsay wrote in one minute:)
|
I hate Oh Daddy, but I might hate it less if it hadn't become a concert staple. If it was just left as a track on the album, it might not have ruined my life.

Oh daddy is the track on Rumours I avoid or simply tune out of listening to even though I love Christine's voice on it.
Oh Diane is slight, light and frothy, yes, but I love it. |
