Live gigs: 2012

Hi guys

As a companion thread to the What Are You Listebing To... thread I thought it might be fun to start one with what gigs people are going to in the next year and/or what people saw in 2011. If this thread stays alive for the year people can keep adding when they booksomething new. It could be especially good for those of us seeing the same tour at different venues.

Although not as many of my favourite artists as in 2009/10, in 2011 I saw: Kylie (Aphrodite Tour), Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Peter Frampton, Southern Tenant Folk Union, Katy Perry and lots of other cool local bands at various venues here in Aberdeen and a couple in Texas. I still have the feeling I'm forgetting someone else but I can't quite remember.

So far for 2012 I've just booked tickets for:

Rosanne Cash in London (March) - SO excited! I love Rosanne!!
Roxette in Glasgow (July) -that should be a great night of cheesy pop rock epic fun!

I'm planning on getting a Melissa Etheridge ticket once I check about time off work etc. Same goes for Isle of Wight destiival, which has the most AMAZING lineup: Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam on successive nights! Depends on the cost though..

Anyone else got anything lined up?

KarmaContestant 12-27-2011 11:54 AM

Kasabian! April 22 in Denver!

They have barely played the U.S. in the past, but are a successful touring band in Europe with sell-out arena crowds. Here in the States, they're going to be playing very small venues, so it's a great opportunity to see them.

When Gaga comes to Denver this year, I'll be seeing her as well.

I'm also looking forward to a tour by James Morrison, but as far as I know, no shows in Colorado or the U.S. for that matter have been announced yet.

And....Madonna. I don't know if she's touring behind her upcoming album, but I suspect she will and that's a show I will not miss. I saw her on her Sticky and Sweet your and it was -hands downs- the best concert I've ever, EVER been to.

wild-heart 12-27-2011 12:00 PM

Iam hoping 2012 is the year i finally see Madonna!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is deffo touring, her manager said on twitter a while ago that the tour will be right after the album.

beccamorrisfift 12-27-2011 12:27 PM

I'm seeing Kate Bush.

p.s me too :'(

So far only have Bruce Springsteen booked at Hard Rock Calling. Am hoping that Tom Petty adds some more European dates so I can see him too.

Am also hoping Stevie makes it to Europe and Lindsey reschedules (hey, a girl can dream!)

HomerMcvie 12-27-2011 12:56 PM

I know you're all a bunch of country haters...., but today I'm going to buy(if there are still any left) a ticket for The Zac Brown band. They're playing in Nashville on Thursday. Cheap seats are about $60. I love both of their CDs.

That, and on Jan 27th, I get to do sound for my absolute favorite country guy, David Nail. Youtube him, for Let It Rain, or Red Light(his two big hits). I am so excited about this. I'm going to have to really control myself that day, for not going on and on, about how much I love his music. I'm thinking about writing him a note, expressing how much his music means to me(okay, I've not been into anything this much, since Rumours, when I was in high school, if that tells you anything!!!), and just asking him if he would read it, when he gets time. It would just be unprofessional, for me to blather on and on, but I just want him to know how much his music means to me....Dumb idea?

I aghree with all of this! I'm waiting for the same reasons as the Melissa Etheridge one for Tom Petty gigs. As for Stevie/Lindsey - that's a given if it happens.

Pfft! Not all of us...

Holy s**t!! You're doing sound for David Nail. That is SO great for you. I know how much you love his two albums and how highly you regard him. You really should make it known somehow. Not overly because as you say, you have to remian professional, but defnitely in some way. It's too good an opportunity to miss. Just don;t get hammered and do the whole "I love you man, your mussshhhic...no, reallly..." That may be frowned upon. :sorry::D:D

You do sound for the coolest people. You must keep me updated. I have a list of people that if you do sound for I wanna know about it! Not that it affects me at all over here but still.. haha. You've already done one - Miranda Lambert.

Silver Springs 12-27-2011 02:19 PM

I'm possibly seeing Jethro Tull in April, depending on whether or not my friend's Dad too my many hints about tagging along, lol.

And Lindsey Buckingham if he gets his act together.

Yeah, I'm SO excited. I think I'll just write a paragraph or two, and ask him to read it, at sound check. I did sound for him in Aug, 2010, and while he wasn't UNfriendly, he was a very serious acting guy. Some artists are very happy go lucky, some not. I'd only had his first CD for a few weeks, last time, and I was already in love with it. I DID pull him aside, and told him that it hadn't been out of my CD player, ever since I got it. He was nice about it, but it still felt awkward....

In general, country artists are usually VERY approachable. Actually, the country demographic sort of demands it. If you're a bitchy prima donna, they audience picks up on that, and wants nothing to do with you.

Macfanforever 12-27-2011 07:42 PM

The only act I did see was Stevie in 2011.In 2012 I hope some of my favorite country acts hit the road.Like Sweethearts of the Rodeo. and Stevie again.

bucklind17 12-27-2011 09:34 PM

So far, I have tickets booked for:

Matt Nathanson
Hanson
Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers
Marc Broussard
Andy Grammer
Needtobreathe

Most of the bands I'm into don't release dates until 2-3 months before a tour, so all of these are before March and I'm sure much more is to come!

mottabam 12-28-2011 02:50 PM

2011:
Stevie w/Rod
Stevie Solo
Lindsey Buckingham
Bomshel(at work)
Night Ranger

2012: Hoping for
Florence and the Machine (odd us dates)
The Pierces (Only NY and LA posted so far : ()
Evanescence
Fleetwood Mac...or maybe 2013
Blondie
My 2 girls are insisting on Justin Bieber LOL.
Probably a few more...

You'll have to keep us posted on his this goes! As for being unapproachable and country artists, I'm a big fan of Sara Evans (despite her last album being a bit rubbish) and although I hate to say it, that's the impression I get from her. I hope I'm wrong though and she's more like Jennifer Nettles - who is just FUN!

Whoa! These guys are still going? Love it! The only one I really know of theirs though is of course The Secret Of My Success, which I love. It came from me being a huge Michael J. Fox fan.

Yup, they did that song and apparently have a new album. Our city has a yearly fall event called Coconut Festival, Night Ranger was the Headliner. For $5.00 general admission I was there. First time seeing them and very close to the stage. Brad Gilis(also Ozzy guitarist) did Crazy Train in the set as well. The Drummer sings a few of the songs including the hit Sister Christian. Very rocking sound, tight performance, much better than I anticipated. It was a good time. I think the only cheaper concert I've seen was Midnight Oil for free in Miami around 1992?.

Zac Brown Band, TONIGHT! I love both of their CDs. I'm so excited!!!:blob2::blob2::blob2:

Thought I'd bring this thread back, if for no other reason than to say that Rosanne was absolutely fantastic! If any of you are fans and get the chance to see her, go for it. You won't be disappointed. She took audience requests, although she turned mine down because apparently she "never plays" Rosie Strike Back. Oh well.

I also saw Kylie Minogue at a tiny 1000 capacity venue inManchester on Sunday, the same weekend as Rosanne - musical schizophrenia! She was AMAZING! It was a tiny gig where she played nothing but b-sides and album tracks, so just for hardcore fans. Excellent

I have tickets for John Hiatt in July now too and am waiting (im)patiently for Cranberries and Bonnie Raitt dates. Anyone got anything exciting lined up?

ButterCookie 04-05-2012 05:20 AM

Also waiting impatiently for Bonnie Raitt dates! Blondie dates, Kylie dates (I'm after the big glitz and glamour hits show though), and if by some stroke of luck it happens, Dolly Parton.

But in all honesty, I'll probably only see Blondie and Bonnie, if she comes over here.

I've seen Kylie 5 times and yes, the big glitz and glamour shows are incredible! I think you'll be waiting a couple of years though since she just finished the AMAZING Aphrodite tour last year. Did you see it? I was right at the front and, for sheer spectacle, it ranks as one of the most brilliant concerts I've been to. She also sings every note live. The Manchester gig on Sunday was so different. Just her, a live band, 1000 fans and B-sides - brilliant. The atmosphere was just fantastic.

I saw Bonnie on the Souls Alike tour and so can't wait to see her again if she tours non US venues for Slipstream. Do you have the new album yet? I like it.

I'm also hoping for Counting Crows dates for their new album (Underwater Sunshine, out next week). I've seen them before and they are incredible.

I've missed out on Dolly tickets for her last 2 tours so if she ever does play again I must go! I'd love to have seen her on tour for her trilogy of Bluegrass albums between 1999-2002 though, I think that's her best stuff.

I need to see Blondie this time around. I've missed them twice because of my friends both times! I need to persuade one of my friends to come though aha.

This is where I think I'm lucky in that I don't mind going to these things on my own. Sure, if friends want to come when tickets go on sale then that's great. All the better and I always ask them. Then again, if I can't get anyone then no way am I missing out so I just gey myself a ticket! You can usually get nearer the front if you go alone, too - if that's what you want.

ButterCookie 04-05-2012 07:58 AM

Yeah, normally I go to Blondie shows with my friend Amy but if she can't make it this year or whatever, I'm happy to go on my own. But that's mostly because when I get there I won't be on my own as I know a lot of the regulars and will just meet them in the queue.

I would actually go on my own if it was standing but not seated.

Going to see Fun tonight. I don't care for them - too hipster/trendy, probably doomed to be a one-hit wonder with their We Are Young song, but my boyfriend thinks they're just the greatest thing ever at the moment so we've got tickets.

Regina Spektor and Tom Petty on April 18 (and Wicked the night before!)

Kasabian April 22...

MADONNA in October. :woohoo:

Oh, and James Morrison May 8. Very happy to see him a third time, and hoping to get my CD autographed, as well. Will be the third time for that as well.

Dove 04-05-2012 11:19 AM

2011:

Lady Antebellum
Sugarland
Jason Aldean

2012:

Loretta Lynn on May 20th <3

Do you know who is supporting Madonna on the your leg of the tour? I know we have LMFAO at Hyde Park but not sure who we get at Birmingham. I think they will get the crowd going so much. Will be so much fun.

I only saw Taylor Swift and Cyndi Lauper last year.

2010 was the best year for me I saw Whitney, some other rubbish bands my friend loves and Courtney Love. Who I waited so long to see.

This year I have two Madonna shows booked. Again waited so long to see her.

That sounds great. She's one of the few I have left
on my concert bucket list.

How about a dream double billing? Shelby and Rosanne!
It would be awesome, maybe even a cat fight or two.

Fun. puts on a great live show but I've yet to see them since they hit, I've only seen them in 200-400 clubs. Curious if seeing them live changed your mind at all?

Dodfather 04-13-2012 05:52 AM

Just got tickets for Deacon Blue in October! One of my favourite Scottish bands and seriously good live. They're playing in ASberdeen too, they usually do. It will be great! Any other fans here?
