UK/Ireland tour - cancelled or postponed?

will the UK/Ireland tour be rescheduled? if so, would it be in 2012 or there's no chance of it in 2012 as Live Nation UK announced?

the news seem to be pointing out to the tour being outright cancelled and not just postponed. that is if you believe Live Nation and Ticketmaster.

some venues seem to be saying tour may be just postponed.

NME has out the confusing article that everybody seems to be quoting, calling the tour canceled but then referring to LB's website that still has last week's announcement that tour will be rescheduled...

my hope is that once when Neale's surgery is over (and highly successful!!), lindsey's team will look into venues and when / which venues they can reschedule. i'm assuming their equipment must have been in the UK already by the time they had to reschedule and that it's probably on the way back now...

here is one of the articles out today:

Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham Postpones U.K. Tour Due To Bandmate’s Injury

Lindsey Buckingham has been forced to postpone a U.K. tour that was scheduled to kick off this week due to an injury sustained by an unidentified member of his backing band.

The Fleetwood Mac star was due to kick off the nine-date U.K. trek at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, England, on Thursday (Dec. 8), but he’s pulled all his gigs so his bandmate can recover. The tour was scheduled through a Dec. 19 gig in London.

“Lindsey Buckingham unfortunately needs to postpone his upcoming U.K. shows as his guitarist has severely injured his back and is not able to presently perform,” reads a post on his official website. “All tickets will be honored at the soon to be announced rescheduled dates.”

Buckingham recently sat down with Ultimate Classic Rock to discuss his solo career, calling it “modest by comparison” when sized up next to Fleetwood Mac, but emphasizing he’s used to it like that and wouldn’t expect things to be any other way.

“That is how it is and that’s how it has been for my entire solo career,” he said. “I do this for the love of doing it. I don’t make any money doing these [solo] tours. But as an artist I want to hold onto the ideal and [make music that has] a transcendent, religious quality.”

I really wish these people would talk to each other so we'd know one way or another what was happening.

Me too. I've decided to be positive or live in the land of denial (not sure which) and believe that the tour will reach the UK at some point. I refuse to believe that it is not possible to reschedule at all during 2012. Am hoping that it's a case of seeing how Neale's recovery goes and then sorting out a reschedule. Maybe they decided to give refunds, because at this point in time they really have no idea at what point during the year they'll be able to get back on the road.

Nico 12-11-2011 03:40 PM

I really hope for all the peeps that it isn't cancelled. But I don't know the severity of Neale's injury and I'm feeling so bad for him as well. This is just one of those unpredictable things that happen where you hope it will all pan through.

I really, really hope this turns out to be the case but, if so, wish an announcement would have been made to this effect to give us just a glimmer of hope that we may at some point in the future see Lindsey solo on a UK tour. At the moment I feel, and I may be wrong, that it just isn't going to happen :distress: Time will tell!

Ticketmaster have the tour as officially cancelled and are processing refunds. For more info see the UK Ledgies thread.

Yep, I've been contacted and been refunded direct by my venue as well who stated that it is officially cancelled. :( Still waiting on refund for further tickets by Ticketmaster.

Have you been contacted by Ticketmaster about the cancellation? I haven't heard anything from them yet. I guess it'll be quicker for me to contact them, to get the ball rolling for a refund.

Fleetwoodmark 12-11-2011 06:33 PM

I bought the tickets off of Live Nation. Will I contact them direct for a refund ?

Ticketmaster's website says you should automatically receive refunds within about 10 days of a cancellation and as yet I haven't contacted them. Alan's (Dodfather) post in the UK Ledgies thread, however, states that he has been in touch with them by phone and his refund will be processed in 7 days. I think I will given them a call tomorrow as it looks like it speeds things up a bit.

I'd recommend contacting them yourself to hurry them up.

What is Ticketmaster's number ?

iamnotafraid 12-11-2011 08:07 PM

I really feel bad for all of you that had tickets.
With low ticket sales I was worried that the
same thing would happen at the venue I saw
him at years ago. I even called the place just
an hour or so before the show to make sure it
was still on.

But Stevie on the other hand cancelled
a show that I had tickets for back in the 80's.
Matter of fact it was cancelled, then back on
and then cancelled again. That one hurt.

Call me negative, but I think that poor sales have led to a cancellation of the tour - the bad back is a useful reason.

One site says that it wasn't possible to reschedule in 2012!!! I cant believe that - London alone has more venues than you would imagine.

Very disappointed.

If that's true about not being able to reschedule, there must be other reasons/commitments.

I still think a Fleetwood Mac tour is being planned. Lindsey has already talked about working within a limited time window on solo work.

I'm still extremely disappointed the UK tour was cancelled. It would have been Lindsey's first and I was so looking forward to it!

Hmm.. what to do with the VIP laminate? I could use it to scrape the ice off the car? :)

Thanks. Am on hold now and have been for ages....They are playing Adele on repeat. Will get through the entire album at this rate!

Edit: Just off the phone. Ticketmaster guy very helpful, processed the refund and said it should be credited to my account within the next 5 days.

Sad, it makes it all real now. I still can't believe it's been cancelled :(

Silver Springs 12-12-2011 01:31 PM

Viv had a long chat with LiveNation about it on the phone today. Apparently they said that the whole thing was handled very unprofessionally and Lindsey had had a severe lack of judgement over all of this.

I hate to say it, but they are so right about that

I just think that this whole episode will be potentially damaging to any future UK tours, which is sad as I am desperate to see him solo. Maybe promoters and fans will be wary about investing in it again?

Obviously Neale's health is priority and it isn't Lindsey's fault; but there appears to have been some serious miscommunication, which is not good at all. And like I said in my other post, something just seems very strange about the whole thing.

Maybe he went into it without fully understanding the time constraints he was committing himself to. Or he failed to take into account the repercussions of a postponement?

I dont see Lindsey as a man that lacks judgment.
His managment maybe, but def not Lindsey.

This whole thing has really annoyed a lot of people, it would be maybe best if lindsey said a few words and addressed his fans. Im sure if he talked about it instead of a press release from his managment people would understand more and respect what has happened.

I am sure Lindsey didnt go and book a uk tour then cancel it just to piss his fans of. So yes there probably is a bit more to it, maybe its personal. but the show could not proceed.

beccamorrisfift 12-12-2011 02:05 PM

I think it's probably a combination of all your suggestions, it would be a real shame not to have Lindsey solo in the UK purely because of this shambles.

Lindsey should definitely do some kind of 'vlog' to straighten all this out with us fans. :)

I know for fact that Fleetwood Mac will not tour until fall 2012 at the VERY earliest, and it would be wise to expect a new album before a tour. I think that they cancelled because they don't know when Neale will be ready to work again, not because of any commitments on Lindsey's part.

Nope. Cancelled because they couldn't work out workable dates. That's what LiveNation said.

Again I can't help but ask: would such a bad judgement call have been made for another, larger territory than the UK? I think it would have been handled very differently elsewhere. The lack of judgement, highly suspicious line about inability to reschedule for an entire year and reluctance for any further comment all adds up to an apparent lack of professionalism that they just wouldn't have the gall to try with a larger audience. Is it "ok" to treat non US fans in this way because he sells less records here? Do we therefore not matter? This is what has really annnoyed me.

Poor show, Lindsey camp! For shame! :distress:

Miranda24 12-12-2011 07:07 PM

Hi Guys! Just felt the need to make a post and clear some things up since a lot of people on here seem to be confused. The postponement happened pretty last minute. As of the Wednesday before (the guys were supposed to head to UK on that Sunday), Neale was still hoping he could pull it all off. He was advised by his doctor that under no circumstances was that a good idea and no one wanted him to have any sort of set back and be away from a specialist. Before the postponement was announced a day or two later, dates were already in the works to be rescheduled. Lindsey wouldn't have had time to find a replacement and trust them to learn all the music in time for the UK shows to start, and as far as everyone was concerned, Neale would have the operation, recover and be able to attend the rescheduled dates. That was the plan. Recently, it was found that there is no way to reschedule all of the dates. The December dates were already in the works in July, so that's nearly six months ago. I'm sure this wasn't anybody's first choice and I don't see how things were handled unprofessionally from LB's end. The only thing that LB did was say to his friend, "Get better and we'll reschedule." I can say first hand that I know there is no FM tour being planned for next year and that there isn't anything fishy going on. LB's management has been trying to handle this series of events with what little time notice they had. The cancellation is pricey. The equipment was already shipped over and venues have fines for postponing, and even heavier fines for canceling. I'm so sorry for all of you had tickets bought, made travel arrangements and were looking forward to Lindsey's first trip "across the pond." I'm surprised LB's website hasn't been updated yet (that is my only complaint for how it's been handled), but I wouldn't be surprised to see a statement from LB in the future. Again, I'm sorry to those of you who are disappointed, but I can promise you that no one saw this coming. I'm not sure if this clears anything up for anyone, but I'm trying. Here's to a happier, healthier 2012 and hopes that they'll make their way over there soon!

Dodfather 12-12-2011 07:21 PM

Hi Miranda and thanks again for taking the time to make a statement. First of all, please be assured that we know replacing Neale wouldn't be an option and that of course we wish him well and that anyone's health always comes first.

However, the thing that has really got to people is the statement issued by LB's camp that it is not possible to reschedule any dates for the entire of 2012. Even you simply state that "Recently, it was found that there is no way to reschedule all of the dates." This is where we would like at least a little more information if at all possible. As fans who have waited so long to see him and are now bitterly disappojnted, some more information would really help.

Many people here are reasonably knowledgeable about how venues book up etc and find it very difficult to believe that it would be impossible to reschedule what is in fact a small amount of dates at any time during a twelve month period. It seems highly unlikely. Can you give us any more information about this? Of course I don't mean to ask for any information about Neale's recovery as such, that is entirely his business and no-one else's, but the "no way to reschedule" sounds more of a logistical problem with venues - which just doesn't seem right. Thank you.

Hi there. Unfortunately, I don't work with Management so I can't provide much insight, but I can offer you what I THINK is what happened. Even though the tour was only 9 dates, it's still incredibly expensive when you count in flights, hotels, tour buses, crew accommodations, etc. If not all of the dates were able to be rescheduled in a way that allowed all of them to be in a tour schedule that makes sense and the shows can be done in order, it becomes even more costly. Same thing goes if only a couple venues were able to get rescheduled and others didn't have any openings. It becomes more costly to do these things than it does to cancel altogether. Don't quote me on this because I am NOT positive, but this is just what I'm putting together. At the end of the day I know everyone wants to see LB, but it is also about finances.. (not to reference Destiny Rules here..)

I made the comment about Neale getting replaced because I read a lot of comments (not just here), that have people frustrated with Lindsey's decision not to replace him and go on with the tour. It WAS brought up, but with the time frame, simply not an option. This was Lindsey's first time in the UK and everyone was really looking forward to this portion of the tour -- Especially Neale who is from England and would have been having a lot of friends and family attending.

I think they were looking to reschedule in the spring sometime. I don't know that the whole year being open for them was an option. With four guys in a band (and several on the crew), others have prior commitments, LB has a family, etc.

Okay, that's all I have on that subject, and I could even be reaching. Again, don't take what I'm saying as the word because I'm just piecing together what I've heard and what I know about the industry. Hope that helps!

Miranda - thank you for taking the time to clear things up - extremely nice of you. :xoxo: :wavey:

so we can probably close this thread now - we have the answer: the UK/Ireland tour is definitely canceled, not just postponed.

i don't know much about tour cancellations, but i know they happen all the time - and fans always complain. i guess in many cases things may be clarified through artist's website. don't remember what Adele's team did when she recently canceled the whole US (and worldwide?) tour - but either way people who bought tix still speculated and complained. when Bono broke his back (or something like that?) a year or so ago, people still speculated and demanded explanations. guess whatever you do, you can't stop that.

I'm sorry but to compare these two situations is not fair. We have not been "complaining" about Neale's injury as a reason for postponement. I think if you read back you will see that we have all consistently wished him well and recognise that anyone's health is always of paramount importance. What has caused distress is the miscommunication re. any resheduling and, later on, the reason given for an entire cancellation.

Miranda has been kind enough to do her best to offer as much explanation as she can and so again, thank you.

you missed my point. which was - even if you explain your reasons to people, they will still complain and think they know better. in U2's case, people still kept saying that part of the tour was canceled b/c of ticket sales, or poor album sales or whatever.
