Stevie on Australian TV The X Factor
I just read on the F/Mac News & Reviews, that Stevie will make an appearance on Nov 15th, its such a shame that an awesome 15 yrs rock chick got voted off the show last week, she would of been a perfect candidate for Stevie to mentor on the show. Oh well!! Still its going to be fantastic watching Stevie on the X Factor:blob2:
|
Yay! Thanks for the heads up.
Does anyone think Stevie's here in Australia already? A Facebook friend (read: a person I went to school with some years ago) last night posted that they had 'dinner with Stevie Nicks' at Wildfire Restaurant at The Rocks. I have no reason to presume they were making it up (maybe mistaken identity!), but it seemed unusual since her first show here isn't for almost two weeks. But now with this X Factor apperance next week, it seems more plausible  In any case, keep your eyes peeled Sydneysiders! |
La Nicks is INDEED in Sydney
she's brought the wicked weather with her here on the south/east coasts  someone tweeted a pic of them with Stevie earlier this arvo |
I initially thought you were using the weather as your only evidence, so pleased to hear there was a tweet too  Damn I wish I was in Sydney - I'd be getting my stalk on! Nothing scary, just admiring from afar :p

then i come on here and read this post  last time she came here the weather was odd too i don't doubt there's a connection  didn't think it approp to post it here in case they were a Ledgie but wotever .... http://yfrog.com/kg2grthj doesnt she look amazing! |
At the Las Vegas show, Stevie said she was leaving for Australia on November 3.
|
Last time she was here solo, she went to the Melbourne cup with her Australian tour promoter Andrew McManus and then spent time in Sydney, so it would not be out of the question.
|
New from this morning? At work so cant listen to this yet, anything new?

^If it's the same one I'm listening to, not anything totally new. She just talks a lot about the collaboration with Dave and how the reason they could write together was because they don't have any baggage.

Confidential News
X Factor pays tribute to Stevie Nicks by: Confidential reporters From: Herald Sun November 15, 2011 12:00AM http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertai...-1226194979262 X FACTOR Australia's final four will pay tribute to soulful singer Stevie Nicks before one contender falls at the final hurdle. Melbourne hopeful Andrew Wishart, Reece Mastin, Johnny Ruffo and group Three Wishez will come together to perform a Fleetwood Mac song, before the last act is sent packing before next week's grand final. Nicks will take to the stage herself to sing a new song, along with Ed Sheeran who will sing hit The A Team. |
What song do you think they're gonna do?
I'll rejoice if it's anything other than Landslide. Not because I'm tired of Landslide, really... but mostly because group covers and/or reality-tv covers of Landslide really really fall short like every time I've seen them, and it pains me a little inside each time. So please. Sing Dreams or something. |
I don't reckon it'll be Landslide. Given there's six singers, I think something a bit more sing along like Don't Stop would be more suitable. That's presuming they look outside stevie songs though, which wouldn't be much of a 'tribute to stevie'. Otherwise maybe a bit of a medley? They've done a couple of those earlier in the season I think...

twas not her best effort
she did SL ...... she looked amazingly gorgeous though what people are saying on twitter ... not cool man Stevie looks like she always does. i didn't think for one second she was drunk ... or stoned. bah! who cares. she is pretty that's all that matters. |
My Twitter stream this morning is full of Aussies saying she was awful on the XFactor. Most of them asking if she was drunk or stoned. I'm hoping it's just people being mean, but there's virtually no one saying anything good, so.....
|
There a crappy vid of the performance on youtube, it wasn't very good, at all.
I'm not sure if she had issues with her monitor, the sound in the studio or just her voice. And all the hand moves were a bit much, I can see how people that are not very familair with her would think she was maybe drunk. Maybe it was nerves? |
^^^ Yeah, maybe a bunch of minor things were off and added up to one big bad thing. :(
|
The YouTube audio quality isn't great, but even so I didn't think her performance was all that terrible. Maybe she was nervous, but it wasn't anything THAT bad. Someone above said that maybe the people making the negative comments weren't used to the hand motions, and I think that might be part of it. I mean, I was weirded out by the hand motions at first too, but... they kind of grew on me in a "Stevie being Stevie" kind of a way, and now I sort of love them.
|
It doesn't sound that bad to me at all...she just kinda sounds like she's shouting the whole thing, for some reason.
|
It would have helped if she would have song one single note in tune...ouch! that was painful!
|
Bleh! Secret Love IMO does not translate very well to stage. There are far better songs she could have done plus it was the first single. Why perform it now? Weird.
|
Her performance was hideous, Secret Love is a studio track through and through and should not really be performed live. The embarrassing thing for us Aussies is that the general public have next to no exposure to Stevie and this is the **** she dishes up on a national platform. Furthermore reinforcing the stereotypes held by the demographic that watch programs like the 'xFactor', that old artist are past it and aren't worth paying attention to.
I'm looking forward to her gig's but the audience who already have tickets don't need to be convinced that she is amazing, it's the populous that i will now have to defend myself against. |
Oh and furthermore the meatloaf references of Twitter, is as about as high an insult an artist could have in this country right about now!
|
Secret Love Live
I think the biggest problem with this song is the direct audio tv sound.... The mix never sounds right on tv... You can hardly hear the drums, synths or back-up vocals... and Stevie's vocals are about 10x louder than everything else.

Hate to say it but that was bad.
She was yelling and enunciating each syllable separately, like she was reading to a two yr old. Why does she do that sometimes?? Sucks that it was so bad when she's so good! Aggravating. Jamie |
Is there an accent in her voice?
|
Wow, not sure I even wat to take a listen now ! Too bad, I agree that the song choice here is not the best choice, hopefully somebody in Stevie camp see's this and take's heed?

Here's a good quality video of Stevie performing...I actually think it was good =)
|
Hmmmmm, maybe you all "down under" are just a bit too harsh
I just listen to the above vid. and considering I had the vol. way low as I'm at work...... I liked it!! If your not happy with this performance you may not like the upcoming shows either? I just dont think it was "as bad" as some of you have expressed? One good thing is, we are "all entitled to our own opion" and I'll leave it at that~ You Rock On Stevie!! |
I have to say I saw the clip from the x-factor australia performance I love my Stevie but she has not been sounding right at this year she has had some good performances here or there very few. I saw here during the recording of the new album she did spotty shows last aug. 2010 while recording the new cd and she sounded awesome one of her best shows she did last year. She definetly is not sounding like herself for some reason. She is really nervous performing her new songs I don't know. I want to say she didn't sound that great on the x factor.I think she needs to rest and recharge her batteries.

She's pushing on the notes too much resulting her sounding like she's screaming, flat, and much rougher than the spirit of the song.

"Secret Love" is a song that requires a more subtle delivery (like "If Anyone Falls"), so it never quite lives up to the studio version -- but I thought she sounded quite good there. In fact, I liked it better than any of the US TV performances.
|
I actually thought it was alright too... I was expecting the worst considering what I read... but after watching it, I was like... are we watching the same program? She sounded pretty good... She over does a little I agree... and the song itself doesn't translate all that well live after hearing the album version... But it was better than the US performances of the song.
|
I enjoyed it, it got much better in the second half IMO.
The actions were maybe a tiny bit overkill, but maybe she was inspired by all that pointing and chest clutching in the final four's performance? |
Happy to see some postive feedback, was starting to think I was going tone deaf and a bit blind? Not the best performance but not as bad as some have claimed it to be either?
Also noted: I tend to come to Stevie's defence weather she's good or bad, right or worng, black or white, so with that being said...... Gooooooo Stevie!!! |
