What a great unexpected surprise! she should include that song in her set, she did an amazing job

ragrsrocalot 10-17-2011 11:12 AM

Awesome. She just lights up the stage with her happiness. Still diggin' the feather.

Yeah, I love her hair in this, she looks (and sounds) great! It's awesome she sang Don't Stop- that was almost a must, since it was a Clinton event, haha.

Macfanforever 10-17-2011 11:46 AM

Thank this is a surprise. She looks great.

WildHearted 10-17-2011 12:33 PM

I find it funny that she mimics playing the piano during 'play the way you feel it'...

nevedix20 10-17-2011 03:53 PM

I thinks its cute how she makes a mistake on the last line of the final verse.
Stevie : I never meant any think for you
line: I never meant any harm to you.

You can hear Sharon and Lori singing the right words over her. I think she must have been really nervous doing the song all by herself. poor thing.
You can tell she had a blast though.

WildHearted 10-17-2011 03:57 PM

She looked like she was having so much fun.

I bet it was weird for her to do that song solo, just as it is for us to see it!

soul_drifter333 10-17-2011 05:07 PM

After all these years Bill Clinton still does know the lyrics!

Stevie had to take the low part and they were singing Christine's and since it's her song, that's why you heard them more prominently there.

Waddy (and the band) did a damn good job!!

PS - Some quick Clinton observations:

-Hillary has no rhythm (as noticed on the ill attempted Landslide sway)
-Sweet moment during Landslide when Chelsea's hubby kissed her and then they all had a family hug
-Chelsea has no idea what the words are to Don't Stop

mylittledemon 10-17-2011 05:19 PM

HA!! Oh wow... loved it. She looks crazy hot and the feather is awesome.

Loved Bill's face when his theme song kicked in...

jmn3 10-17-2011 05:28 PM

Wow, a bunch of tired old songs that all sounded fantastic! When I first played the video I thought "She should have played Don't Stop at some point" figuring full well that she would never pull that out on her own. Low and behold...I thought she sounded great though you could see the nerves on her face and in her body language at the beginning. I liked that she sang the real lyrics versus her Steviefied lyrics that we've been getting on the last two Fleetwood Mac tours.

I admire her for doing the Clinton Foundation Celebration (sans FM), showing that she can get her machine rolling.

I admire her singing the song that meant so much to the campaign and has now become a part of history.

I admire her for having the heart and spirit to pull it all off and be the beautiful woman, performer, artist, and mentor that she is.

Thank you Ms. Nicks. You put a smile on my face (and royally rocked the audience....in the venue and the audience on the internet.)

I love the feather too...and Bill's face is priceless, almost like he is a bit high or had a few drinks:shrug:...
Great performance Stevie! :]

Yes! I was nervous for her doing Don't Stop, but she made it all work. I admire her too, Betsy.

I have to admit that I cringed a couple of times when her voice gave out, but I still give her an A for effort. She pulled it off without twisting around the melody or lowering the key; it's not an easy song to sing.

Yes, the A is definitely for effort. That had to be scary for her to sing that song without the band. I had the volume down kind of low (at work) when I watched- will give it another go later. I could tell she was struggling at certain points.

HejiraNYC 10-17-2011 08:11 PM

Stevie sings "Happy Birthday"

Stevie starts at around 3:45. Oh, and I didn't know Mick Fleetwood was in the audience! It was so cool for Bill Clinton to give him a shout-out.

Machu 10-17-2011 08:13 PM

She looked fantastic! Her hair was cool and I like the feather.

She sounded nice as well although I'm not sure how I feel about "Don't Stop" solo. I definately agree with 'A for effort' though. It's better than I had expected since that song isn't really in her range.

mikephxaz 10-17-2011 10:58 PM

someone recently asked in a thread...when Stevie became a legend...she continued to seal the deal that night!

Lady Jane has a positive write up on the Clinton gathering that goes along with her pictures: (you can see a bunch of photos, including some recent shots of Joni Mitchell)

Wow... I realize Joni is pushing 70, but she has really crossed over that line into granny-dom. :distress: Obviously she has never come within 10 feet of a syringe containing botox, fillers or collagen. And it looks like she is developing osteroporosis. Poor thing. I know her health has been dodgy throughout her life (not exactly helped by decades of chain smoking, no doubt), and it appears that it has aged her quite prematurely. I guess it was foolish of me to hope for just one more studio album from Joni, but she looks too frail to paint, let alone pick up a guitar and futz with the tunings.

Can you repost Dont Stop? It wont play

Janis_no1 10-18-2011 03:25 AM

Yeah guys, i agree, Stevie was SMILING and pushing her notes and just getting into the landslide and dreams songs. Some enerygy, some ZEST! Nice to hear, GREAT to see... lets hope she has left just a little for AUSTRALIA!

Jondalar 10-18-2011 12:15 PM

Did she get herself invited to that? He said she wrote him a note.

he invited fleetwood mac, but lindsey couldn't do it since he has like 7 shows in 8 days overlapping the days this was going on. so stevie offered to do it instead of the whole band.

rhiannon22 10-18-2011 09:52 PM

Loved that performance! Go Stevie!!

Lee 10-19-2011 02:09 PM

Man, I missed it. I started watching the concert, but it started so late & I got tired & went to bed. I'll have to watch the video when I get home (I'm @ work right now). I had no idea that she was going to be there.

Lee :)

LilyRose 10-19-2011 02:38 PM

That's the first performance of Dreams I've been into in a long, long time.

I want a pic of Stevie, Bonnie & Joni together!

If you want a pic of Stevie, Bonnie and Joni together, they should all be at potluck night every Tuesdays and Thursdays, playing bingo at Shady Pines Retirement Community

Well, but she sure has found veneers... geez those teeth are blinding! No one that age has teeth that white, especially someone who smokes...

I thought the performance fitted the occasion. It was a party, not a concert, and this was kind of like leading a singalong. I don't really agree that it's a hard song to sing, and she's doing it in A, which is not a high key for a contralto like hers. I suspect the vocal shakiness was more down to nerves and fear or forgetting the words making her throat tight. Doing this song was well out of Stevie's comfort zone, though, and that's somewhere I like to see her going these days.

I liked the write-up JF did of this gathering, where she talked about Bonnie and Joni discussing the beauty of open-G tuning on the guitar. It's that kind of thing that a) convulses me with envy and b) makes my mind boggle as to what Stevie would pitch into such a convo. Perhaps 'Did you say G? G is the seventh letter in Buckingham. Yeah, him... Joni, your glass is empty, better get that sorted. So anyway, it's LA, 1971, and we've just arrived in a car that won't go backwards......'

michelej1 10-27-2011 02:09 PM

Jane Fonda looks great though and her body is better than her face and it's not a good body for 73. It's just a good body period. I just saw them discuss her on Fashion Police.
