Moonlight is not on the new twilight soundtrack
Hello everyone, I saw this story on nme. Stevie Nicks is apparently not included on the soundtrack to the new twilight film. This seems somewhat surprising given the amount of publicity generated this year related to Moonlight and it's connection to the twilight films.
http://www.nme.com/news/the-joy-formidable/59451 The full tracklisting for Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 is: The Joy Formidable - 'Endtapes' Angus & Julia Stone - 'Love Will Take You' Bruno Mars - 'It Will Rain' Sleeping At Last - 'Turning Page' The Features - 'From Now On' Christina Perri - 'A Thousand Years' Theophilus London - 'Neighbors' The Belle Brigade - 'I Didn't Mean It' Noisettes - 'Sister Rosetta (2011 Version)' Cider Sky - 'Northern Lights' Iron & Wine - 'Flightless Bird, American Mouth (Wedding Version)' Imperial Mammoth - 'Requiem On Water' Aqualung & Lucy Schwartz - 'Cold' Mia Maestro - 'Llovera' Carter Burwell - 'Love Death Rebirth' |
Not surprising at all. Stevie spoke about the song in terms of the inspiration she she got from those movies. Somehow speculation and rumours perpetuated the idea that the song was written for the soundtrack, I don't think anyone involved with the movie ever approached Stevie to submit a song for inclusion in the soundtrack.
|
That is shocking.
|
Bruno Mars is the only act I've heard of on that list. Perhaps they might have approached Stevie but her agreement was deemed too expensive. Or perhaps they never requested Moonlight at all.
|
To be honest I'm not a fan of "Twilight" saga but considering how popular it is, in many ways it could have served as a sales generator for "In Your Dreams" album. "Moonlight" is one of the strongest songs on this album and should be released as a single with or without any links with aforementioned saga.

Any mention of Twilight, Glee, High School Musical or any other teenage fad brings me out in hives.
|
I don't understand why it would be on it ?

Perhaps it'll be on the soundtrack for Breaking Dawn Part 2?

No reason at all for her to be on the soundtrack, besides that soundtrack is tightly marketed to Twilight's demographic: teens. |

Cristina Perri and Iron and Wine are sort of well known, at least among my social circles.
Perri sings that "Jar of Hearts" song. Iron and Wine doesn't really have any hits, but chances are you've heard one of his songs before. The rest of them...I have no idea whatsoever who they are. Probably typical stuff you hear while shopping at Urban Outfitters. |

new moon
she said it was inspired by New Moon. this is not that film. completely different reference. that's what i'm sayin'.
|
well... it's not a completely different reference because it's all part of the same overall story. I think the song would give a little class to that soundtrack, but hey, whatevs
|
I think it's like someone else said, was probably cheaper to go with a bunch of rather unknowns.
|
Moonlight does not fit with breaking dawn at all. All the soundtrack are pretty amazing though,if.u are open minded about music:)
|
I like many, had my 5 minute crush on Rob Pattinson after I saw Twilight but then I got into True Blood and it's more mature juicier storylines and better actors and it made the Twilight films look like highschool. I could never go back to annoying kids around a lunch table again.

I'd agree that it was a looooong shot for Moonlight to be included in the upcoming 4th installment of the Twilight series soundtrack. After all, from what little I know about the story line, I can glean from the overhyped movie trailer that Bella is now Breaking Dawn:shrug: She is no longer, lonely, lost or disconnected ;) She's getting married to Edward, No?

Having said that, Stevie is smart to make reference to the series, in an attempt to capture a younger audience. And the genius part is she ended up writing a classic like Moonlight from scrapes of an old demo, and being inspired by that one scene in New Moon (which of course happened to her) as well as the whole forbidden love theme (which of course happened to her). Moonlight is ultimately about Stevie, as most her songs usually are. |
Honestly, who cares? I could take or leave all the Twilight b.s. so the only read advantage of Stevie having been on this album is that it would have exposed her to a completely new audience who mostly likely doesn't even know she exists which now that I think about it could be pretty huge. That being said I rather her not be assiciated with the mainstream Hollywood film people who are out to make millions on these twilight sagas. She's too good and authentic for that sh*t. I'd prefer to see her songs on quality indie film soundtracks that may not reach as large of an audience but would be more suited to who she is as an artist, not these big franchise type films Also, she does not fit in at all with the rest of the artists here.
|
I'm not surprised at all. And not all that upset either.
|
I might be offended if Breaking Dawn was a WB movie, but it isn't and Stevie isn't really the hit girl to go to for songs right now, so I'm not surprised. However, I highly doubt Stevie was asked and she turned them down. She has gushed about the Twilight series and her love for it, and having Moonlight on the soundtrack would reap TONS of money and publicity for her. No way she said yes to Heavy Metal and not Twilight.

Many of these "younger audience" movies have these type of soundtracks, it seems. I think they use newer artist for the cost aspect as well as their target audience...
For instance...when the new Alice In Wonderland came out, they used Grace Potter's cover of White Rabbitt instead of Jefferson Airplane's. New Grace...same song. |
it would have been cool for her to be on the soundtrack but she never said it would be on the up coming soundtrack i think she would rather promote her own album than a movie soundtrack.

Over the years Stevie has cited that certain songs she wrote were inspired by a movie (or some other media), and envisioned them in that context. Beauty and the Beast is a blatant example of that. Stevie can be very assertive. Possibly some songs were submitted to projects without invitation, but were rejected with a "thanks, but no thanks," becaue no one was asking for them! I don't think Stevie ever intended to have Moonlight in the movie soundtrack. However, she referred to those movies in many of the interviews she has given. because they have a huge audience interested in movie. Perhaps many people began making the assumption that the two were related, and therefore assumed that song was dirctly associated with the movie. It got traction because of the media hype of that franchise. |
Although I'm not crazy about the Twilight movies, I can see that song being included and fitting quite well with the film/s. But it looks like they'd rather go with no name artists.

I think "Moonlight" would have done well and been relevant in this soundtrack...BUT, something tells me it may have been either Stevie or the record company that did not want it on the soundtrack.
The soundtrack would have competed with her CD, and if her record company is planning on releasing "Moonlight" as a single.... putting it on a soundtrack before releasing it would not be smart. People would have liked the song, purchased the soundtrack, and In Your Dreams woudn't get the commercial attention it deserves. Had this song NOT been on In Your Dreams, then it would have been appropriate to put it on the Soundtrack. If you think back....many moons ago, when Stevie had a solo record....her record company didn't even permit her to make any appearances or be seen with Fleetwood Mac because it would have hurt sales...and they didn't want people to get confused..... Sadly, this kind of happened with "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around".... this single actually killed Tom Petty's record at the time....... (but, I am sure he doesn't mind...because this single....really shot Stevie's solo career into Beyond super-stardom. It made people listen to her differenlty...when before she was the dreamy hot girl with airy-fairy songs that sung in Fleetwood Mac.........with this song, everyone saw her more as a Real Rocker ......it earned her even more respect. So...that's just my take on why Moonlight is not on the soundtrack.... |

"Stop Dragging My Heart Around" did not negatively affect Tom Petty's album at all! Where did that "fact" come from? The song helped launch her career, but it did not overshadow Tom's well-established band at that time. It was a mutually beneficial union. |

And actually Petty grumbled that SDMHA diminished/overshadowed the lead single "The Waiting" not "Hard Promises" - the album, in several interviews over the years. Pop radio was more keen to spin the new Nicks/Petty duet over the new TP & The Heartbreakers song. Though, "The Waiting" still peaked at #19 on the Top 40 charts, while SDMHA peaked at #3. |

Before her solo career, Stevie would reference and rave about Tom Petty in interviews. She didn't know him yet, but was determined she would! She didn't wait for an invitation - she just showed up. Tom and the band eventually warmed up to her. |

I was really hoping Moonlight would be included in the soundtrack and I'm still hoping someone decides to include it. I think it would help Stevie by exposing her to new people. I only started listening to Tom Petty AFTER SDMHA.
