Stevie wants to work with Katy Perry ?

I don't know what to think ! :distress:

I don't connect the song ET with the movie ET at alllll.

I don't mind Katy Perry because she knows just what she is and doesn't really take herself to seriously, like a lot of other people seem to. So if it's something Stevie wants to do, then, she should fulfill her hearts desire!

The link isn't working. I'm hoping this is all a joke?

EDIT: Oh, crap. I found it.

I'm very sorry to say that it isn't, I posted it from my phone in my urgency to tell everyone, as soon as I can get on a computer I will re try, does anyone have a working link they coild post in the meantime ?

Artemis 09-21-2011 10:48 AM

Eh. This can only be a good thing, if it happened. Yeah, Katy Perry isn't exactly the best singer in the world, but, if she did something with Stevie, it would really take Stevie out of her comfort zone, and, loathe as I am to admit it, it would probably be Stevie's best chance of troubling the pop charts ever again.

Here it is.

Oh, Stevie.

That link didn't work for me. Here's another link to the story via eonline:

Over the years I've learned not to take Stevie's casual musings seriously. Back in 89' she was quoted in interviews as wanting to work/duet with Madonna for crikey sakes. I think its simply a response to a reporters question on what current female singers she listens to & admires. Or is Stevie really more contrived than we'd like to believe? Could be a smart way to get her name out there in the press with the 5 #1 singles in a row (auto-tuned) singer (Perry)
p.s. Perry worked with D. Stewart on one song on her debut album.

"And I thought that there was a connection"

I hate to say it as well but its probably true, its just a shame that i happen to dislike Katy Perry work :distress:

I liked how the headline says she's "determined" to work w/KP, but the article is just kind of typical Stevie saying things that she probably has no intention of following through on.

Stevie's been talking about how much she loves the song E.T. for months now. Too bad it's not sad and has nothing to do with the movie but it's ok girl, we still love you.

I swear she just asked Karen what a popular current song was so she could have a proper response when she was asked. She may very well have never even listened to E.T.

wheart 09-21-2011 11:21 AM

I hate Katy Perry.

Well, one time she did mention the 'k-k-kiss me' part of the song.. so she at least knows how it goes a little bit.

O.k., she heard it once ;).

Macfanforever 09-21-2011 11:47 AM

If Stevie wants to get back on the mainstream charts again.Thats the way to go.I can handle some of Katy's tunes.I'm alittle to old to listen to Katy Perry..As I said awhile ago thats what she's got to do.Its alittle late for Stevie to put out another CD just after IYD and she will be with FM next year as we know.Maybe a Katy Perry project or TV special.

fringed n fab 09-21-2011 12:03 PM

There are other great performers and singers she could work with other than like someone else mentioned, auto-tuned pop stars. Anytime I've seen Katy perform on tv she sounds awful live. Stevie could pair up with one or even two great female singers and do an album like what Dolly, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt done with Trio and it be a huge hit album with the right people. She has endless career possibilities if she were to ever tap into them. People like Patty Griffin to me are great vocalists. Alison Krauss blends with about anyone these days and is big. But poptart Katy Perry?

Jondalar 09-21-2011 12:50 PM

Its because Katy Perry is the hottest artist around, its Stevie in survival mode,

Macfanforever 09-21-2011 12:51 PM

I'm surprised her friend Taylor did not call her back to help her redo Rhiannon.Stevie like working with the young talent. If it was me.I'll feel out of place working with them. They will call me dad or gramps.LOL.....

I agree on that Jondalar.Survival is the key word.

TrueFaith77 09-21-2011 12:54 PM

Great news. Should be good for BOTH of them, as artists.

I agree on this. Why Stevie wants to team up on throw away talent.I rather see Stevie teaming up with artists from her era.But as we see these older artist are having the same problem breaking into the charts these days. She could team up with the 80's lady's like Heart,Joan Jett,Blondie and more.Or team up with some older country artists like mentioned here.Hahah.LOL maybe Justin Bieber will be next for a duet partner.Better then Rap.Will she got to get back on the mainstream charts.I guess she has no choice to get hooked up with a young artist.

WildHearted 09-21-2011 01:15 PM

Well Stevie likes the younger generation and all that... hence Sheryl, Vanessa, Courtney, Taylor..

Katy Perry is a good songwriter (for her genre), if nothing else. And she consistently has hits.

Stevie wanting to work with Katy Perry is a lot less offensive to me than her gushing about Twilight.

Didn't look at it that way and in a sense it's probably true for pop radio but like people have mentioned before, there's always country radio and doesn't necessarily mean she has to sound like it all the way. A lot of modern country is soft rock today and is big with people and may even get her more video play over there.

Oh ok.Yes I agree.Yes Todays country music is more like soft rock."For What Its Worth" and' Cheaper Then Free" would fit good on country radio.

beccamorrisfift 09-21-2011 01:55 PM

At least she isn't considering Miley Cyrus, that would be the death of me....
(not that I'm dramatic or anything :D)

KarmaContestant 09-21-2011 02:25 PM

I think Katy is a talentless hack, auto-tuned beyond recognition , who cannot sing live at all.

She is cute, I like her image - I think her Sesame Street appearance was adorable - but I just don't understand why in the world Stevie admires this woman when there are multitudes of singers and songwriters with actual talent that she could gain critical acclaim for working with.

mitzo 09-21-2011 08:14 PM

Stevie told Perez Hilton this a while back, she loves KP's "Alien" song and video.

SAY WHAT???

SaraThePoet 09-22-2011 09:31 AM

i don't really see a problem with it. I wish she would work with people like Lissie,Best Coast,Florence..but hey..she has paid her dues..she can sing with the effing muppets if she wants! Actually..Stevie and the muppets would be pretty damn awesome come to think of it haha. Point is..as long as she is still making music and having a good time doing it,who the hell cares?? :)

Sure. Kind of like her collaborations w/Vanessa Carlton & Chris Isaak, and her cover of DMB's Crash. She's so very current. :D

Egg-zakt-lee!!!

She should just admit, working with Katy Perry will be a big $$$ maker for her.

Buddy 09-22-2011 03:38 PM

I think Stevie should keep trying new things and NOT rest on her laurels. Change it up and do what you LOVE, Stevie. A big hit song with a young and very popular singer would be great. Cher just finished a duet with GaGa so why not a Stevie/Katie collaboration? Just bury those greatest hits (yawn) ideas!

Several can, actually. They just don't get the same media attention and radio play that the more under-dressed and scandalous ones do.

jellyman10 09-23-2011 05:52 AM

I sometimes think that if any of us got to spend just one week with Stevie, we would find our fandom tested to the very brink in so many, many ways.:lol:

Totally. She sometimes comes across as being very much like Paula Abdul and Paris Hilton merged into one person. That's enough to drive most over the edge.

Thanks for the first laugh of the day

This is sooo true...haha when you stop to think about itI'm surprised how much credit Karen actually deserves. Think about it. She must be one high paid assistant..

But I like to think we could all handle her for extended amounts of time. We know what we're getting ourselves into ;)
