retirement
I was reading an article online from eariler on this year and says " It is unknown when she will come out of retirement again but hopefully it will be soon"
Does anyone honestly think she will ever come out of retirement? I would LOVE to see her back but i just can't see her doing it. We can hope though i guess. link to the article http://blogcritics.org/music/article...-mcvie-in-the/ |
I don't expect her to ever come out of retirement. She's older now. She's done her time in the music industry and now she wants to simply enjoy the easy life. She's most definitely earned it.

Does anyone in rock music really truly permanently retire? If they don't die first, many old rockers tend to maintain low-key careers until they become ill or become forgotten by the music industry. Ozzy Osbourne retired back in the 1980s. And again in the 1990s. Joni Mitchell was "retired" until she was "not retired." Linda Ronstadt was "retired" but continued to tour and record for another ten years. Tina Turner has also "retired" repeatedly as well. I honestly cannot think of any rock musician who has been that enormously successful who just completely retired while he/she was still alive, in good health, and commercially viable. A musician's life is defined by his/her music, period. It's in the blood. They can go off and pursue other destinies, but they always come back home eventually. I personally believe that Christine will re-appear someday. On her own timetable. I mean, if Doris Day can release a new album in 2011 after being a total recluse for decades, I think anything is possible.

Tina Turner first "retired" over 20 years ago, when she was only 50. Joni Mitchell was in her 50s as well. CM, on the other hand, is pushing 70. She's not coming back.

I think she's totally DONE with Fleetwood Mac, but if Stan Webb called to get Chicken Shack back together, I think she'd have bags packed & out the door before her Malteses know where the food locker is.
Just kidding! |

Nah, I think she still plays for those lucky little pooches but they're the only ones who'll hear it now. I don't blame her for retiring. She's done her bit and if I were her, I'd have retired loooong before she did. |

IIRC, all the intros to the songs on OK, Ken are like that. It's been a while since I listened all the way through, though.

She might be persuaded to record with them, but that's as far as she'd let it go. I've said for years now, they should all record one more album, and do just a couple of shows in London. Film a DVD for all of us to buy, and we all win! But it ain't gonna happen... |
Yeah, retired. But I'm hoping another boutique album like ITM comes out while she still possesses that amazing voice.
I consider ITM among her best work and was so happy when it was released. I only wish more people heard it. |

About the comments that suggest Christine didn't get enough credit. Do you think she feels that way? I doubt that. Christine has always been strongly self-assured. She never felt the need to be a singular, high-profile rock star; her ego was alway in check. She wrote some of Fleetwood Mac's biggest, classic songs, and was justly respected, recognized and compensated for her efforts. I don't think she has any regrets, or feels that she has been overlooked in anyway. She can actually be singled out for her consistency and dignity - cool, calm and collected! She had a style...a rakish style. |

I'd say that if she ever did release another album it would probably be of her favorite blues tunes rather than a pop/rock album.

I hope that if she ever releases another album it would be made up of her favorite blues tunes rather than a pop/rock album. That would be a dream come true.

Not going to happen *sigh* Gail |

The article that the original post referred to was a review of 'In the Meantime.' When that article used the term "coming out of retirement" it referred to Chris making another solo album, along the line of 'ITM,' not re-joining Fleetwood Mac in any way.
I think it's unlikely Chris will record any more, but I would have said the same thing before 'ITM' was released. One wouldn't expect a wealthy, contented, retired pop star in her late 60s to record any more. But stranger things have happened in this world. If she DOES record again, it will make my day. Another 'ITM' ... another blues record ... Christine reading out of the phone book ... doesn't matter ... it will make my day. |
One of my favorite songs of hers is Homeward Bound off the Bare Trees album. Her dislike of touring was evident even in 1973...
I want to sit at home in my rocking chair I don't want to travel the world As far as I'm concerned I've had my share My time's more precious than gold.. I don't want to see another airplane seat Or another hotel room Homelife to me seems really neat I just wanna run back for good.... Buy me a ticket homeward bound.... She stuck it out for a looooong time. |

And while I certainly would love to hear more blues from Christine, I would not want her to come out of retirement for something her heart is not into. She gave so much, it is all good now. |
I love that song, too. It is on my list of my top 10 Fleetwood Mac songs. Great keyboards AND guitar.
Evidently, her love of performing trumped her dislike of touring, for many, many years. |

I'm not being crass by saying that, I just mean that when you've struggled as a musician for so long, driving in vans and staying in s0-s0 hotels, hanging on to "make it" and you FINALLY do.....well, I think for a while there's a lot of incentive to enjoy that ride..... until the novelty wears off and you realize you STILL don't like the touring etc.... I mean, let's face it, private jets and presidential suites and having more money than you can spend has got to be nice. :woohoo: |
