Love Is.....Lindsey?
so......does this mean Love Is is about Lindsey? :O
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...-show-20110527 "the singer concluded her main set with a disco-grungy "Edge of Seventeen," then returned to the stage for "Love Is," a gorgeous piano ballad she said dates back to her earliest days with Buckingham" |
I noticed that but assumed it was a mistake, since I think she's been pretty clear that Love Is was written in the 90s.
|
maybe it's part of her continuing efforts to whitewash Joe Walsh out of her life.....;)
|
They must have gotten confused with Moonlight?
Was anyone at that show and can confirm? Maybe she just meant that the inspiration dates back that far... hasn't she said it was written in the 90's? |
Does Lindsey have soft lips?

Wouldn't we all like to know.....sigh....
|
I know what I'm thinking when I stare at a photo of Stevie. Are we sure that line is about the man?

Could it be.. Love is, "You've got the softest lips" Like someone is saying it to her? hmmmm. |
I always heard "Love Is" as a conversation not a narrative.

Did she say she had considered making it a duet? Or am I imagining that?

I've wondered about "Love Is" for years now. She's mentioned she wrote it right after the Street Angel tour. But now with the revelations found in "For What It's Worth", it only makes sense that "Love Is" probably is about the same forbidden, life saving relationship that is addressed in "For What It's Worth".
|
She introduces Love Is much the same way she writes (and talks) about FWIW in the liner notes. I believe they're about the same person.
|
Yes, I see connection with FWIW too. 'Love is knowing you won't let go'. Similar sentiment, I think, kind of about love that's deeper than romantic love, but might start that way. I think it's possible for it to have become relevant to Lindsey, the way they are now, but that's not the same as saying it was 'about' him at its genesis.
|
I honestly think that even though Stevie might have an original person in mind when she writes the song...it probably changes for her when she sings it live. "Love Is" is a beautiful and pretty accessible song. I agree about it being the same person as FWIW was about. But what made her want to do it on this tour? Who was she thinking of when she said let's do this as the encore! I don't know...it could very well be about Lindsey some nights (it certainly applies to their relationship), and it could be about others on another night. Whatever she is feeling inside is the person she is thinking of when she sings the song. And I'm sure that on her other ballads such as HAEWAFY, Joe Walsh was not the only person she thought of when she sang the song. And I'm sure that putting new meanings to old songs certainly keeps their value fresh for Stevie. She's been through a lot since she first wrote "Dreams" and I'm sure the song has taken on multiple meanings for her over the years. It's similar to how she dedicates "Landslide" to a different person each night. It has been said that when Stevie wrote "Gypsy" Robin wasn't in mind. But I'm sure when she performed the song, the event of her death inevitably became part of the song's meaning for Stevie. Except she does these in her own heart. Stevie's songs have a universal quality to them which means they could pretty much apply to any deep, meaningful relationship.:)

Has it ever been determined who Stevie wrote this song about? I've never seen her specifically say who it was written about.
I know she said it was written in the 90's and when she introduced it at her birthday concert 2011. She said it was taking the place of Beauty and the Beast, and Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You, as the last song at her solo tour, so it is VERY significant/special to her. I actually think it was written about Lindsey for 2 reasons: 1) the line that says "she awakens things he said he though were dead". It makes me think of when she and lindsey would not see each other for a while, until they get back together to record a new Fleetwood Mac CD and then the old warm fuzzy feelings come back while they are recording and then touring. 2) is I think the most telling line "knowing you won't let go" I really cannot think of anyone else that line could be direct to or about other than Lindsey. Regardless of who the song is about, it's very beautiful and I love it. I was just curious if anyone else had any ideas about who or what the song was about. |

When she mentioned it as part of the trilogy, I was thinking that the trilogy was about the 3 most important loves in her life BATB for Mick, HAEWAFY for Joe and Love Is for Lindsey. |
hmm... I could easily see the storyline of BATB (the original story, the one that's been around forever and ever and the inspiration for movies and tv shows) fitting in with the story of the lyrics of Love Is--- the story of someone who clearly loves the other person but can't be with them (in this case because of his disfigurement and how unaccepting society would be of the relationship). So if she were saying that tragic love story of two people who can't be together (her favorite kind) inspired both BATB and Love Is, I could see that.
She says she wrote the song BATB after seeing the Jean Cocteau film version of the story. There's even audio floating around of her describing the movie to someone (Tom Petty?) in the studio and how fabulous it was. Now if after writing it it the story reminded her of her and Mick, so be it. I've not heard her say that it reminds her of her and LB, but that wouldn't surprise me. EVERYTHING reminds her of Lindsey. She clearly has said Has Anyone Written.. was about Joe (at the time it was written). I get that over the years things can happen in your life that make you look back at a song and see how it applies to other relationships, although that particular song seems awfully *specific*. I don't recall her saying anything directly about Love Is, but I was totally distracted with grad school when that album came out and didn't follow her interviews on it very closely. I had kind of assumed it was about Rupert Hine and their whole thing because of whatever it was she said (in the liner notes to Enchanted?), something about "we couldn't be together, it wasn't anything to do with love" but due to something else (him being married??) which is echoed in the lyrics. But it's Stevie, so who the hell knows? |
I always thought she meant it was a part of a trilogy in the sense that they are her "piano ballads." Actually, I think she specifically said that.. I never got the feeling she meant it had anything to do with the songs thematically or inspiration wise.

Maybe that's what she meant though and when I heard her say it she just left that part out. |
