She was on FIRE!!! Moonlight was amazing, she was extremely chatty, and she seemed to enjoy the venue being on the ocean! This show put Holmdel in the dust, i hope a great boot shows up!

GoldDustWoman22 09-05-2011 01:55 AM

The concert was amazing!! It was so great to meet so many awesome ledges!! Stevie was spectacular tonight...the woman was on!! She was in great voice, she gave some great conversations and this woman could totally be a stand up comedian:lol:. At one point she started to mime and mop the floor when explaining how she used to be a cleaning lady stating that "every great rock band needs a clean house." But seriously her songs were so piercing tonight. They really stuck with you...every. single one. Rhiannon was on fire btw!! It was like she kind came and took over Stevie's body for a few minutes. I finally got to touch Stevie's hand on the edge walk!! It was so amazing....she has the softest hands in the entire world...that woman is incredibly gracious! I absolutely love her to death! Lori also smiled at Wayner's daughter Kate and I during the ledge...it was so awesome! And Waddy gave her his guitar pick which was really cool! He was totally playing really close to us too...it was so surreal! Anyways to all of the Ledgies....I hope you made it home safe and sound...so awesome that I got to meet you!!

I am utterly exhausted after a great day with Ledgies and night with Stevie.

Tonight felt like the culmination of the road to validation for her. I feel like at the end of this tour (US legs for now at least) it's fair to say, Stevie got her groove back. She was all smiles, laughing, dancing, chatting, motioning with her band, probably having a better time than we were. In the end, I almost felt like we were there for her and not the other way around.

Nothing striking stood out to me because everything was just great, minus a few flubbed lines to Ghosts are Gone, which was hilarious because the whole band knew it and was cracking up. And I did laugh my butt off when she was introducing Landslide and went into the whole shebang about she and Lindsey and their puny beginnings and how they ended up in Aspen, and the other stuff that GoldDustWoman22 mentions above because she couldn't stop herself and had to bust out with the fact that she was the "sew-er of the jeans. " We've all read it but to hear her say it at a concert was just a priceless moment for me. I really hope it ends up on You Tube.

And so here at 20 to 4 in the morning, I'm terribly depressed knowing that the run of Stevie is over for now. I got to see her 3x in 9 days and I got to be part of 2 edge walks. It was truly a very memorable week and I'm glad I had the chance to meet and spend time with many of you! And just a special shout-out to FumiDesigns who made a lot of this weeks festivities happens. We love ya darling!!

Yes, unfortunately. What up wit 'dat!

I met a few ledgies (most notably GoldDustWoman22, who was my 2nd-row center aisle buddy ;) ) and was blessed to spend the day with Amy, Fumi, and StrandInTheWind. Other than the concert itself, I'm sure my highlight was singing along to In Your Dreams with them during the drive from Manhattan to Jones Beach. So I owe those four my biggest thanks for sharing in this mystical experience.

I had a great seat and was able to dance the whole show--finally!!! without being threatened!!!!! My three biggest points about the concert are as follows:

1. The setlist makes this the best Stevie solo concert to which I've ever been: four Mac and three solo hits intertwined with In Your Dreams tracks, sequenced for maximum impact.

2. Soldier's Angel, which I already love, is a revelation live. Her nimble vocalizations and her shattering moan at the end display the conviction and imagination promised by the hilarious and sincere projection images (80s Stevie praying superimposed over an American flag, then dissolving as the song fades to contemporary Stevie--from behind--marching through the Capital ready to tell Obama and Congress to stop. this. war. now!). I cried.

3. Edge Walk. Edge of Seventeen is always the highlight for me. As many noticed, I jam out (look for it on YouTube! lol). This is the first Edge Walk in which I got to participate. My main goal was to ensure that nobody blocked GoldDustWoman22's chances to get some hand time with Stevie. In the process, Stevie held my hand. She looked right at me and smiled. I said: "I love you." But I wish I had said: "I love In Your Dreams."

PastelGravel 09-05-2011 11:02 AM

Thanks guys for the reviews! Keep em coming!

I need to amend it to point out how observant you are in noting Stevie's gratitude. That's why I wish I had said: "I love In Your Dreams." I couldn't believe how choked up she got when she thanked everyone for listening to and responding to her new songs. But I understand. As a writer, it's very difficult to go through all that work without an audience (two book sales in a year since publication of my book! lol). I am honoured to be a part of Stevie's audience.

As grating as some of Stevie's miming can be.....I would love to see her mop the floor! Sounds hilarious.

Seat buddy ;)!!! It was so awesome getting to sit next to a ledgie last night! Some awesome discussions about FM and Stevie...so cool :). It was so great to have someone singing along to the songs from IYD right along with you! I totally agree with you about Soldier's Angel...that performance last night might have been the best one I've seen on the tour. The concert was so incredibly amazing! She was awesome. But equally great was getting to meet everyone...finally felt like I could actually have face to face conversations about everything Stevie/FM:nod:. Plus you all were extremely gracious and welcoming so thank you for that...proud to be a ledgie!!

Totally feel the same way. I sat beside SaraThePoet and StevieRox81 (is that right Lori?) in Saratoga Springs. And got to meet and hang out with loads of AWESOME Ledgies. Thank you so much all for making us Canadians feel so welcome! Love how Stevie brings us all together, I think she'd like that :)

I'm so happy you got to come last night. I'm sorry I didn't get more of a chance to talk with you directly but I'm so happy you and John had the pleasure of being together to experience it all. And isn't the Edge walk the pinnacle of it all?

Last night was truly such a great night and I'm painfully coming down from the high of it all. Back to reality tomorrow!! Hope we can all do it again soon.

Yeah, I get that. I'm just saying that we usually get reviews, etc from some of those people after shows, no big deal. Hope everyone had fun.

Follow the link to watch embedded video from the night.

http://gothamist.com/2011/09/05/stevie_nicks_1.php

After unfortunate incidents involving a stolen iPod and crashed music library, much of 2010/2011 became an experiment in listening only to Fleetwood Mac's Rumours—it was all that was left, living safely on our iPhone. Combine that with being raised on a heavy dose of Fleetwood Mac, and the news of a possible tour next year is very exciting to us... but in the meantime, a Nicks fix will do.

Earlier this year Stevie Nicks was scheduled to play in Manhattan, but had to cancel under doctor's orders, so when we heard she was finishing up her solo tour last night on Long Island, we headed out there (tip: stop by Point Lookout for lobster rolls and drinks on docks before going to any Jones Beach show!). Her setlist included a few new songs, more older songs, and lots of stories.

One of those stories was about "Landslide" (which she has has retold a few different ways). Last night she said she wrote the song in 1973 (at just 25-years-old), living in a not-very-nice apartment in Aspen, Colorado while Lindsey Buckingham was filling in for one of the Everly Brothers on the road. (The two hadn't joined up with Fleetwood Mac yet.) Exhausted trying to make the music thing happen, Nicks contemplated going back to school instead, and wrote this song about her and Lindsey... two years later it was on Fleetwood Mac's self-titled release. Last night she sang it with a montage her life playing behind her, which included many photos of her father (it was his favorite song, she said):

Nicks also performed the song at GMA's summer concert series on Friday in Central Park (last night she mentioned this is the most requested song, particularly by television programs)—you can watch it here. While her tour has ended, Buckingham's is just starting up, and you can see him at Town Hall on September 27th... and hopefully with the whole Fleetwood Mac gang next year (though our dad assures us Christine McVie will not be joining them again).

Thanks for helping me get there . The Edge Walk is amazing....the perfect end to a perfect evening:angel:. I'm still in shock that I actually got to be that close to Stevie...it was so totally cool!

And don't worry. I so know what you mean about coming down from the high. I had to go back to a dorm with no air conditioning. It actually wasn't that bad before but after just spending two hours with Stevie...well it was a bit of a downgrade;)

Fair question. To speak for some of the others, Ed, Dani, Marissa and I were up until Ed drove Dani to the airport at 4AM. I expect Dani's been asleep, and Marissa and I slept 'til noon and spent the day walking around in New York. This is the first I've really gotten to sit down at the computer.

Also, when a show is that brilliant, it's always harder for me to write about it--there's nothing very riveting in, "OH MY GOD. It was so good."

And it was. It just edged out Boston as my favorite of the shows I was able to hit. The audience around us, at least, was up the entire time. Stevie threw herself into it--she held out notes longer than usual, and even hit the high bits on "Dreams." And as Amy and John have noted, she seemed genuinely thrilled and honored to be there.

There were so many great moments. I loved the sweeping bit that's already been recorded, and the Everly Brothers story that made it into the Landslide intro. Stevie was so cute: "So, while Lindsey was off with an Everly..." She again suggested, "Go to USO.org. [stage whisper] What is an org?"
Surely by this point, some kindly roadie has pulled her aside and explained what an organization is? One hopes. I shot Waddy a look on that one (Dani and I were right in front of him, and he laughed.
I'm pretty convinced we also got a smile from Lori when we did every motion in the FWIW dance. And seriously, you guys--that's the best way to enjoy that song. Embrace the motions!

I had such a great time with all of the Ledgies. There's such a great little community of Stevie Nicks fans out there. It was wonderful seeing the New York regulars again, and meeting a few who were new to me.
Actually, I cannot tell you how taken aback I was when two girls came up and, as I waited to hear, "Are you on the Ledge," asked if I went to my school. Shouldn't have been that surprising (I go to school in New York), but I was unnerved that my real life was entering my Stevie world. My Stevie world is supposed to be sacred! ;)

ontheEdgeof17 09-05-2011 08:23 PM

I'm so so glad everyone enjoyed this last weekend! I was caught up with two of my dearest friends, so Stevie and you Ledgies had to sit this one out ......doesn't mean I love you less.....I just needed some friend time. I haven't seen them in ages!

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and what you remember. I love how Landslide is now getting a story a la Gypsy on the Unleashed tour. It's too bad she's not doing more shows. Someone should just string her concert stories together and publish her biography that way. Oral history is in - ask Caroline Kennedy.

Anyway, I hope this bit does make it to Youtube (sorry Stevie). I've gotta hear the rest of "while Lindsey was off with an Everly..." ;)

^^Whatever Grace said.

Although I have to take slight exception to the notion that this surpassed Boston. I would have to say that she sounded better vocally at Jones Beach, but there was something wild and urgent about Boston- one of her most unforgettable appearances. At Jones, Stevie was beaming contentedly all night, perhaps realizing that the American leg of her tour was over and that it was (mostly) successful. But maybe it was also because she was playing by the ocean, which she referenced at various times throughout the show. She even mentioned something to the effect of "at least this time there aren't fish jumping out of the water," in reference to her notorious last show at Jones which was totally flooded by the high tide. The highlights of the evening were "Annabel Lee" (as perfect as it could possibly get) and "Ghosts Are Gone," which has become something of a rocking climax in the show.

Despite the fact that I attended the entire east coast stretch of dates for this tour... I am now officially in withdrawal. Somebody just shoot me.  I am saddened with the knowledge that there are no Stevie-related gigs for me to look forward to on my calendar. I can't even begin to describe how much of a let down normal day-to-day life can be compared to the last week-and-a-half. It's the end of the tour. It's the end of summer. It's the end of vacation. It's the end of the world as I knew it... :distress:

Will .I guess the show is over .As they say.Sitting here with Stevie withdrawal .The weather finally behaved.Low tides. The JB show was hot. indeed.since it was her last show.Love the comment about the fish swimming and jumping on the floor in front of the stage.I fell apart lol when she said that. She was very funny tonight .She could host SNL.My seats suck big time.but benefitting a buffer from security from seeing me with the camera.Sec A,row U,Seat 18.Got alot of photos but not much vids because they were to many heads bobbing in the way of the camera.I got some from the tv screen.I will finally go through the photos and vids and upload to share from this show and the 4 others in the weeks to come also I got some audio too..The audience was to noisy in my section.to much chatter and at the same time Stevie was introducing her next song.I think that was very rude and no respect for Stevie.I met up with other Ledgies with was nice to see all of you .and I have to say It was pleasure in finally meeting all of you at the shows.I apologizing for being a little shy in person.I broke down during Landslide like I alway shed a tear or two with that song. She did thank the audience for taking in her new songs from IYD in the mix of classics. Her new songs like "For What It's Worth" I love this song."Annabel Lee" "Ghosts Are Gone," "Soldier's Angel "Moonlight""Secret Love" made the tour special.
Did miss "Sorcerer" "In Your Dreams" though. Steve Real did a beautiful job with Leather and Lace he has an awesome voice..Michael Grimm did a nice job on "For What It's Worth" also what did I heard of his own set too.Ok it's time to get back to reguler life until next year when Stevie or FM hits the road .

Village Voice Blog

Stevie Nicks w/Michael Grimm
Nikon Theater At Jones Beach
Sunday, September 4

Better than: A radio stuck on the classic rock station.

"Welcome, Jones Beach," Stevie Nicks said before her second song on Sunday night, the last night for both her current mini-tour and the Long Island oceanfront amphitheater's 2011 season. "If you know me, you know there's nowhere I'd rather be than the ocean. I love it here." The crowd—even those people flouting her request to not hoist their cameraphones and get video of her performance that night—cheered.

For the rest of the evening—a 14-song set almost evenly split between her back catalog's most memorable songs and selections from this year's In Your Dreams—Nicks and the audience kept up this rapport, with her at one point wishing that she had another hour tacked on to the show to tell her stories; that the audience consistently responded to her reminiscences about the distant and recent past in kind, even breaking out into whoops and applause when she merely mentioned the Aspen mountains that had inspired Fleetwood Mac's monster hit "Landslide," was a pretty convincing sign that the feeling was mutual. (This even though the weather conditions were such that every audience member could feel as if they, too, were standing in front of a wind machine. Solidarity!) In her inimitable voice, she offered up the backstory for her military spouse's lament "Soldier's Angel" and tagged it with a plea to donate to the USO; she lost herself in the music, shimmying and twirling and giving her musicians Dances Of Stevie's Veils when they soloed; she gave a splendid introduction to her opening act Michael Grimm, a former America's Got Talent winner who'd pulled off a pleasant, if somewhat reserved, set of Stevie Ray-leaning blues-rock earlier in the evening.

The material from Dreams, which can sound too wrapped in gauze on record, was given a nice amount of heft by Nicks' backing band; "Ghosts Are Gone," in particular, sounded as if it had been excavated from the vaults of a hard rock station that went off the air in 1974. (It also made me wish for a Stevie Nicks/Black Mountain collaboration of some sort.) But it blended in well with the likes of "Gold Dust Woman" (here, turned into an endlessly spiraling freak-out) and "Dreams," and Nicks' unfailing personality further blurred the edges between old and new. At the show's end, she thanked everyone in attendance for allowing her to rescue the show from being the sort of nostalgia-fest that had choked so much of this summer's concert season. "You give me the OK to continue being a creative artist," she said, "and I am grateful for that." That she ended the show with another twist on the old days—the stark, mournful ballad "Love Is," which she told the audience could be left up to their own interpretations and which I personally took as a portrait of a relationship that just wasn't right, despite feelings burning strongly on both sides, had she said officially replaced the older ballads that closed out her years and years of previous tours—was just another way of her saying not "goodbye," but "see you next time."

Critical bias: "Stand Back" was a pretty formative early-MTV experience for me. But so was Lindsey Buckingham's "Go Insane."

Overheard: "Is this... really a dry venue???"

Random notebook dump: I went to this show on something of a whim; my sister was in town and I figured it would be fun to show her what it was like to see me at work. (Labor Day!) We bought tickets (cheap ones) at the box office and there was something just really pleasant about going to a fairly major (if not entirely full) show just because it was an option on a holiday weekend. There were other people in line with us, too, but there were even more people in the lines to pick up tickets they'd bought via the bubbly discount site Groupon. I can't help but think that the idea of going to see a concert by a fondly thought-of performer on a whim, which is something that's certainly possible for people in music-blanketed New York City but maybe not so much in the suburbs unless you want to catch a Dave Matthews tribute band at Mulcahy's, is something that high ticket prices have sort of torpedoed. Perhaps this is why the Groupon did so well—the seats that normally cost $27 had been marked down to $13 a pop, which is comparable to the price of a 3-D movie and, in the case of Nicks, something that's at least geared toward adults and that allows for pre-show tailgating with picnic tables and jars of sangria.

Stevie Nicks Brings It Home At Jones Beach

I took a break from Great Kills beach on Staten Island and made it to Jones Beach for a one-of-a-kind outdoor performance by singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks, a living rock n’ roll legend.

Stevie Nicks performed a soulful rock n’ roll performance that wowed the crowd at Jones Beach last night. As I sat in the audience I had the opportunity to reflect on just what makes summer so special. A performance at Jones Beach is spectacular because it evokes all the classic summer-time fun that I remember when I was younger. As Stevie prepared to sing a beautiful rendition of one of her classic Fleetwood Mac songs, a group of swans swam elegantly by, making me realize that I was indeed at one of my favorite summer places – the beach.

Stevie has not lost her appeal. At 62 years of age, she still has the elegant long blonde hair and the sunny disposition that makes one realize just why she became such a rock icon in the first place. After releasing her greatest hits and first solo studio album in more than a decade, “In Your Dreams” is just that – an ode to the romantic melodies and ballads that made Stevie such a star in the first place.

As Stevie mentioned about fish jumping out of the water.

If she liked the singing fish, I don't know how Stevie can say she hates the internet when Youtube viral videos would definitely be up her alley.

I bet Karen picks out the funniest ones for her and spends hours each day playing them on repeat.

My Stevie world is supposed to be sacred! ;)

Thanks Grace. I totally get where you are coming from. I don't usually post in depth reviews after I go to shows because there is usually not much to say after a few others post reviews. Plus, how many times can you read, "she was so great! the show was so awesome!". My words don't usually do the show justice.

I will say though, that the Chicago show was by far the best one I went to this tour. I'm not counting the Wiltern as part of this tour. So, out of Red Rocks, Toledo and Denver, I think Chicago was the best. Red Rocks was great, you just can't beat the atmosphere. And she played IYD. She just seemed so much more into it in Chicago.

One funny thing I just remembered: when Stevie was introducing the band she introduced Lori as her best friend as sister in law and then when she went to introduce Sharon she said "she is my other best friend but she's not my sister-in-law...could've been". It was funny but it was kind of an interesting moment. I wonder what she meant by that?
