LB on today
in some areas it's airing now, and in some it already aired...

Interview
Some pretty interesting questions, but LB spewed out the usual answers (even though the answer had little to do with the original question). The only poignant moment was at the end of the interview when LB said something about karma and looked up and apologized to his mother and father.

Politician
Politician is a good analogy (I realize this has been discussed in other threads). I think LB firmly believes everything he espouses. He is just too rehearsed that it loses a sense of sincerity. There is very little spontaneity in his answers. Maybe he should listen to his own lyrics regarding his supposed disdain for publicists, because he sounds like he has been coached by one.

What I always get a *tad* annoyed with when I hear LB interviews (and I won't get into the redundancy because that's a given) is the fact that sometimes a very simple response is all it takes, and yet he discards this theory and goes off on a 3 1/2 minute discussion with all his highfalutin phrases/idioms/analogies...
by the time we get to the next question I am spent. I just pretty much fast-forward through until we get to a song these days...it's gotten that bad for me. However, on rare occasions he is actually quite charming when he wants to be. And cute. Like that one article someone posted here recently- where the person knew all kinds of LB stuff really well. That is my fave of all his recent interviews I think. Still, I of course want to watch them all despite my griping. |

yes, the line about everything coming around and his kids giving him hard time so now he understands/apologizes to his parents for hard time he has given them as a kid was new one - or at least that "karmic" phrase he keeps saying became at least partially clearer - what he might actually mean by it. EDIT: oh, he said that he met his wife when he was 46, first kid when he was 48 - i think he doesn't give exact numbers usually lately (right?), just talks about starting a family late |
"Seeds We Sow" live performance
here's a live version of "Seeds We Sow" I've not seen before...
|
With Lindsey being a founding member of FM, I don't think the Smiley staff has updated his introduction since the last time he was on the show.
People should distinguish between fans and the audience. Fans do want new material. Everyone who claims he really likes GYOW is not necessarily a fan. But when Lindsey made that comment, I think he was talking about making peace with the fact that the record company was not interested in new FM material, as much as he was referring to the record buyer. It would be nice if Lindsey changed up and did an acoustic End of Time for Conan O'Brien. I listen to SWS twice as part of the album. The electric version is the last song for me and I find it a nice coda. But I don't need to hear it played at all of the live appearances. Michele |
Oops! Sorry CAD I didn't see you had already posted that

Yeah, Seeds We Sow is officially my least favorite track on SwS.
Lindsey, Lindsey, Lindsey, the Kramer look does not look good if it's halfway up your head (yeah, I can spew the same stuff each time, too). Interesting take on the audience's wants versus creativity. I wonder if all this backing off is a way to get his point across in a more subtle fashion...the small machine CAN merge with the big machine (God, I laughed out loud when he started with the machinery about two seconds after I started watching. I will admit to falling asleep and waking up to the discussion of the machines because...who can sleep through that? It's so scintillating. Even after 400 listens/reads). And I loved the only genuine moment of the interview with the kids and the karma. I would love him to be interviewed by a fan. A real, true, honest-to-goodness fan who wouldn't ask stupid questions and would, frankly, cut him off if he started on art, machinery or any of the other drivel. Oh--I did like the "I've had a lot of crazy girlfriends" mention. Good thing he thinks designing with fruit on the floor is artistic! |

several of the recent interviews had some ok questions, but he still brought all the responses back to the points he keeps repeating... but several years ago (2008) there were several interviews where there were some different questions and answers. i also remember hearing a radio interview with him while driving and they were discussing some different stuff at the time... |
reminder that lindsey is on Conan tonight

I suppose it could be true. Maybe that's why the band was once called, Fleetwood Mackingham. Michele |
