Howard today

Thought it was cool Howard Stern played the entire Stevie version of Free Falling. He never plays full songs, exp one that long!

Howard, Robin and Fred are big fans. I'm sure Fred played it as a nod to her tour starting.

Heartboy 08-08-2011 08:16 PM

Howard Stern is a perv & he's very rude!

I'll never like him after hearing how he treated Linda Ronstadt back in the 90's. I don't care if he is a Stevie fan.

TwistedGypsy 08-08-2011 08:34 PM

He's a shock jock. What do you expect? As long as he didn't call her fat play all the Stevie you want Howard.

jkmaletic 08-08-2011 08:54 PM

Howard makes fun of everybody, even himself.

That's why he's sick & mean, some of the things he called Linda are gross! I think there's some clips up on youtube about that situation. Sure, if he was bashing Stevie, you'd be all up on his ass.

FM77 08-08-2011 11:17 PM

Howard is a genius. I heard the Stevie song today and was surprised. Actually they do frequently play whole songs at the beginning of the show or if they have a long break. He has said that he is a fan and I wish she would go on his show. I didn't like Gaga until she did a 90 minute interview and sang on his show a few weeks ago. It was the greatest radio performance I have ever heard anyone do--ever. I wish she would do a record of the way she sang on Stern. Brilliant. Only Howard gets performances/interviews like that.

WildHeart69 08-09-2011 12:31 AM

^ I have to do agree. When he isnt being rude or a perv he does FANTASTIC interviews. If he could channel that into a "Larry King" style show it would be amazing, but he has his "reputation" to live up to I suppose

HejiraNYC 08-09-2011 10:03 AM

To be fair, Linda Ronstadt volleyed the first shot by trash talking Howard on The Tonight Show when Robin was a guest. She really exercised poor judgment there and should not have been shocked if Howard fought back two-fold.

Macfanforever 08-09-2011 10:38 AM

Did anybody record a clip of his show when this happen.

FM77 08-09-2011 11:54 AM

I know Gaga's performance of Edge of Glory is available on youtube if you search Howard Stern/Lady Gaga. Not sure if you can find the whole interview but I am sure you can. It was extraordinary.

FM77 08-09-2011 12:26 PM

Here is Gaga on Howard...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_GMgkcc2KM

She also did a song called Hair that was beautiful...Howard was speechless after both of these perfomances.

jkmaletic 08-09-2011 01:09 PM

It's so easy to spot someone who has never listened to Stern. Hey now!

I heard Free Fallin' on Stern the other day as well & was like "whaaaaa?" Pleasant surprise.

I would looooooove for Stevie to go on the show & think it would be great exposure. However, I think Stevie (and/or her camp) are worried he'd ask her really trashy questions & make her uncomfortable, prude that she is. But I don't think he would - he's talked about what a huge fan he is of hers & the Mac. He's pretty respectful when it comes to his idols.

Fa Fa Flo-hi!!!

Howard has/had a thing for Stevie in her pre-fat years as he calls it. You can tell that he secretly likes her and respects her. I think if she'd do the show that Howard would treat her kindly and with great respect. He's a frustrated musician as it is.............

Indeed. My History Of Rock professor in college was an instrumentalist in Charlotte, NC's symphony orchestra and regaled us of his encounters with Ms Rondstat when she performed in Charlotte with the symphony some years back. Apparently she's an impossible diva. It's not like my professor was green around celebs either... he was something of a local legend himself. He helped head the symphony any time a rock artist came to town & he was even one of the 3 trumpet players to play Taps for JFK's funeral. Linda was the absolutely only celeb he ever spoke over negatively... and boy did he have things to say about her. I say all this because if Howard Stern skewered Rondstat, she likely very well deserved it.

Respectfully disagree how likely she deserved it.

Ms. R. don't take no ***** from geeks like Stern. I'd be more likely to agree on the other situation if I was certain your professor wasn't grinding a political axe. Stern and Ronstadt don't share like minds on politics. Since she is very outspoken and doesn't back down...Stern takes his shots when he can.

The Stern/Ronstadt feud had nothing to do with politics. You obviously didn't see the Tonight Show episode or listen to Stern. Well done.

Yes, the last I saw it was. This was from 1995 & she was promoting her 'Feels Like Home' album on Leno & Robin was on the show & Linda said something and it went down hill from there. The next day Howard talked about it on his show, calling her every name he could think of. I wish I was there in the Leno audience because after hearing all of those boos, I would be the one telling the people to *F* off!

Here's part 1 of 3, Howard & Robin like to hear themeselves talk out of their asses!

What was so bad about that? It honestly might be American culture vs Australian culture but in Australia that is not offensive, or at least not to me!

HAHAHA!

I remember seeing this Leno appearance and howling at it. The following days of the Stern show were priceless entertainment. This was Stern at his ultimate peak.

It was great to listen to all the parts of this Howard chronicle and see how much of an ass Ronstadt made of herself. Boy did that audience turn on her. She violated every scrap of TV interview manners by attacking Robin, and Robin wiped the floor with her. The added irony was all the business about Sun City. I had never even known that Ronstadt played Sun City, took all that aparthied money, and never even apologized for it. Classic. And she had the nerve to chastise Robin about some out of context racism! It was so clear she had never listened to him and her reaction was kneejerk PC claptrap. Brilliant radio and a shameful comeuppance for Miss Ronstadt. I love her singing, but she stepped in it big time on this count.

Thanks for the fantastic flashback!

Howard is such a huge Stevie fan. It is too bad she will never go on his show.

The only thing Linda said to Robin was that she didn't like Howards persona. Didn't mean he had to be so rude about her. Oh, I hope Stevie's never on his show, she has class.

I guess I just Love Linda & felt she was treated bad, lets just be thankful he's never called Stevie a 'Cow', although I've heard people call her a goat a number of times.

if i recall my ronstadt history, this was around the time that "feels like home" came out, which was supposed to be trio 2, but some issues with dolly parton kept it from being so until 99 or 2000; at any rate, interviews with ronstadt during this time would lead one to believe that she was not into her career at all -- and maybe with due reason -- her last big album was in 1989, after years of being a commercial artist. in the press, she came off as difficult and preachy, and maybe that's just where she was. but she did have a tendency to name check people, and with stern, like it tends to be, people judge without really understanding what his show is all about. i think there's a perception that one has to be a sexist pig to appreciate howard stern. and that's so beyond wrong.

but thats my 2 cents. i love ronstadt, but i am a stern die-hard, and i'm neither sexist, nor a pig.
