The "B-Side & Soundtrack" [Part One] Survivor Challenge - Round One

Note: Since there was a recent "In Your Dreams" vote off I will add that album at the very end of the "Survivor" Challenges

This is the first of two "B-Side & Soundtrack" challenges [Included in this challenge are the two new songs from Timespace]

Here is what has won so far:
Bella Donna - How Still My Love
Wild Heart - Stand Back
Rock A Little - No Spoken Word
Other Side of the Mirror - Rooms on Fire
Street Angel - Blue Denim
Trouble in Shangri-La - Trouble in Shangri-La

LAHGTP and Thousand Days first. Pretty easy. Both lousy tracks.

markolas 07-27-2011 01:14 PM

This one is hard b/c there are so many I could vote off. In the end, I picked the 2 craptacular tracks from Timespace.

KarmaContestant 07-27-2011 01:44 PM

I love all of these songs, except for Sometimes It's A Bitch and Inspiration...so I voted for those.

Kind of sad to see Love's A Hard Game To Play already losing. Stevie's vocals on that song are just totally killer. Probably the very best vocal she recorded between Seven Wonders and Blue Denim.

Voted off Thousand Days, just a really boring track

Ditto. Hands down, no contest!! The rest are all great tracks.

BTW, where are "If You Ever Did Believe", "Crystal", Touched By An Angel" & "Free Fallin"? They all fall under Stevie's official "Soundtrack" releases.

And Somebody Stand By Me.

I just love me some Sleeping Angel...especially the fact that it's played in the movie right after Jennifer Jason Leigh gets an abortion. Too aperbo (or however you spell it). :p

OMBTRARS and TD are okay, just not as strong as the others.
I'll be happy if "Garbo", "Battle of the Dragon", or "Blue Lamp" wins for favorite, but if past contests are any indication, it will be "Sleeping Angel".

Yeah, I'm betting on Battle Of The Dragon or Sleeping Angel for the win. However if they add in "If You Ever Did Believe", that could have a good chance as well.

Don't forget Twisted and God's Garden...since Inspiration is there.

....and Real Tears.

Ah. I see this is "Part One"

I voted for the Timespace duo.

Artemis 07-27-2011 08:57 PM

Also voted for the Timespace duo, I haven't heard Inspiration though. I hope Garbo lasts a long time, I've recently become quite addicted to it!

One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star is one of the worst things I have ever heard from any artist ever anywhere.

Neal 07-27-2011 09:56 PM

"Garbo" and "Sleeping Angel"

WildHearted 07-27-2011 10:08 PM

Sleeping Angel is one of my favorite Stevie songs ever.

I voted for One More Big Time Rock & Roll Star and Sometimes It's a Bitch (even though I have days where I really like SIAB).

They will be in the "Part Two" Survivor Challenge...Remember the poll feature only allows you ten choices

This is one of the BEST songs she's ever recorded. It's filled with lots of passion and is very revealing.

I would tend to agree these days, but there are still parts of the song that are appealing (and parts that are equally unappealing).

ahafan02 07-28-2011 10:02 AM

I will never understand the hate for "Thousand Days" as I think it's better than anything on Street Angel.

I wouldn't say that it's better than *anything* on Street Angel, but I have always liked it. Definitely one of my favorite b-sides.

I like Thousand Days, but disagree with your assessment that it's better than *anything* on Street Angel. I would say the version that was recorded for Street Angel lacks all of the passion and mood that made the Rock A Little era recordings so appealing.

Agreed. It could easily fit quite well on Rock A Little.

I don't understand how one of the "Dreams" knock-offs ("How Still My Love") won the Bella Donna survivor, over "Edge of Seventeen", "Bella Donna", "Stop Dragging My Heart Around", or "Leather and Lace". I kind of get why "No Spoken Word" won for Rock A Little....in an album that has very slick production, "No Spoken Word" seems like one of the more authenticate tracks. Very interesting choices all around! We'll have to see who wins for In Your Dreams.

For this one, I generally like most of these songs. I selected "Garbo" and "Love's A Hard Game to Play".

I'm just totally shocked that people are voting for OMBTRARS!! What more can I say? :distress:

I think everyone is shocked that someone voted for any one of the songs listed up there.

I'm shocked No Spoken Word won the RAL round. I'm also shocked that Street Angel didn't win the Street Angel round.

I'm shocked Love's A Hard Game To Play is getting more votes than Inspiration.

:p

I voted for Love's A Hard Game to Play & Inspiration. There OK songs . I actually like the rest of the lot mostly. I love Battle Of the Dragon thats one of my favorite songs and one of Stevie's best --I love her voice and the lyric's. I was thinking the other day what MAKES a song a 'perfect' song really. To me when the lyrics & the music are in harmony with each other (at least to your ears that is) than to you thats a perfect song. Its like its magic sort of really. I love Garbo and One More Big Time R & R Star (personally I think it should've been on RAL)/I love Violet & Blue and Sleeping Angel /I do like Sometime's Its A B**tch at times even though Stevie didn't write it. I chose Thousand Days cause I don't like 'this' version of it I like the 'faster' version from RAL much much better. Inspiration is an OK song but I do wish the b'sides to SA would've been her own songs. Some thoughts.:D ps I Love Blue Lamp also another song that should've been on BD too

Which movie is Sleeping Angel in again? It's a beautiful song, especially the live version from Storytellers.
