A Lindsey Buckingham "Best of" should be!

With the release of Seeds We Sow, Lindsey will have 6 studio albums -- only one less than Stevie's 7 studio albums! She has released 2 compilation albums and one box set. Still, Lindsey has yet to release a compilation album.

What songs would you choose to best represent the span of his solo work?
My list (which can change at any moment) does not include his pending album. It essentially features 3 songs from each album and 2 movie soundtracks.

Trouble
Mary Lee Jones
Johnny Stew
Go Insane
Slow Dancing
Loving Cup
Holiday Road
Dancing Across the USA
Countdown
Wrong
Soul Drifter
Down on Rodeo
Show You How
Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
Wait for You
Did You Miss Me
Love Runs Deep

Bonus downloads:

Time Bomb Town
On the Wrong Side
Big Yellow Taxi

I think it should be his singles, which, by the way, constitutes my number 1 most played playlist ever. It is fascinating. And it's not directed by my whims, but by history. Where is that list I put together on here before?

Nico 07-23-2011 10:35 PM

I'll be honest...forget the "best of" compilation...I want a freaking BOX SET of all his wonderful demos/works in progress/unreleased songs that were originally meant to be on this or that album but weren't. I want all that stuff. He has some songs, like Wear You Down, that I want out on some official release. And I'll bet he has way more. But I sort of feel that Lindsey is the kind of artist that should have an amazing box set (with music videos bonus) and I want it.

Do you think I am demanding too much?

tilthefirefades 07-23-2011 10:40 PM

1. Don't Look Down
2. Wrong
3. Countdown
4. All My Sorrows

How many "hits" or singles has he really had? Lindsey as a solo act isn't really a "hit singles" artist. He will never have a compilation titled "Greatest Hits." But a "Best of" seems more appropriate.

I agree that I want those songs out in some form. Steve's Riff, Given Thing and Deep Dense . . . are they just going to remain unfinished and unreleased like abandoned children?

All so evocative, even with half-formed lyrics and monotone vocals, barely discernible (well, I can hear him clearly on Deep Dense, but not on the other two) which somehow seem to express more precisely because they are subdued. Undercurrents to his passionate playing.

I want to own those officially. I want them out there, heard by all, discussed by critics, explored further in interviews.

My favorite collections are "Singles" collections, regardless of whether they were a hit (though some acts restrict it to top 40 out of necessity as well as respect for history).

Hell no, bring it on!

How amazing would it be to have all that in a box set - come on Lindsey, listen to your devoted fans!

thanks for digging your thread up, Silver Springs - i did have a sense of deja vu when i saw this new one:laugh:.

better time to redo this is after sept 6th, when we have all new songs. meanwhile i will stick with my original list for the box set, although i do already know that i would add 5 out of 6 new songs we've heard so far to it.:wavey:

I love Bee's list, but I need to do this very thoroughly because there are songs that sound even more effective live. And then there are certain live renditions that are superior to others. And there are unreleased gems in variety of stages...it's just such a difficult list to compile. But I will certainly start mentally preparing a list once I have heard the new album. Yay!!!

yeah - Bee's thread has lists from bunch of people, some compiled greatest hits, others something like box sets using unreleased, mac and solo, etc materials. i'm not going to paste it here b/c it's long but mine was more of a box set type of list, divided by solo, mac, collaborations, unreleased and covers.

Nice! I'm going to check this thread out! Your box set reminds me a bit of the Johnny Cash one!

I totally agree. A 4 disc set with outtakes/extended versions/demos/live songs. A dvd would be nice too with all of his video's from his solo lp's and some live songs too. A interviews or interviews over the yrs would be nice too. Outtake photos. I do hope we get this someday? If Stevie can release one there's no reason Lindsey can't too.:D

Exactly. We all know he has the material and then some. The man has been uber productive, and even in that period where he seemingly wasn't he was. So he has tons of stuff and he's on to his 6th freaking album!! Did we ever, 6 years ago, imagine that that would be a possibility by 2011? I sure didn't.

I think a box set would offer such a range of LB's talents and showcase his skills as a musician and a songwriter.

But it comes down to this: is he willing to do it?

AliceLover 07-25-2011 03:11 PM

Nahh, let him ride his productive streak until he physically can't play anymore. Since 2005, he has been creating some songs that I absolutely love. Each album has a few of them.

I Want You Back

Did Lindsey write "I Want You Back", or just perfom on it?

michelej1 07-26-2011 11:25 AM

He wrote it with Steve, of Steve's Riff fame.

I don't know if he's willing to do it but I really wish he would. I think it would be really nice for us fans that want a box set of his. I'll even go futher that if Stevie can have one & FMac why can't Lindsey. I'm sure he's got more than enough material to fill it. I wonder if there were more outtakes from his first 3 lp's? there just has to be. I'd love the extended version of Slow Dancing on it too. Any rare live versions of songs. What about outtakes from Out of The Cradle? thats still my favorite solo LP of his. Anyway, I hope he does release something like this soon. Hey , Lindsey, why not at Christmas time this yr?? That would be so awesome.
