Stevie In Hollywood Tonight!
I came out of the gym at 10:30 tonight and saw 2 tweets on my phone saying that Stevie was the Special Guest with Vanessa Carlton at 11:30 at a tiny club 3 blocks from my gym!
I couldn't go in my gym clothes so I drove home, changed clothes, and was back at the club - called "Bardot" at 11:20. I told the doorman my story and he gave me a wristband and let me in - he said they should go on about 11:45. The place was packed - I found a spot on a staircase facing the stage and after about 20 minutes I saw Vanessa and Stevie coming in from a side door. They led Stevie to a tiny table right in front of the stage - right below me!!! Vanessa did about four songs and then introduced Stevie who came up and sang on two songs with her. The first was a new song - the second was "Carousel". Stevie sounded and looked great. She was in black pants and top and had her glasses on the whole time. She spoke about how Vanessa had spent Christmas in Phoenix with her family and when asked to sing a Christmas song she said she didn't know any and "Carousel" was what she sang. What a nice surprise of a night...... |
THAT is flipping awesome! So happy you were able to be there!

Sounded cool. But what is up with her and the top and pants, now with the glasses on too?? Triple irk for me anymore smh. She shouldn't hide her eyes from the crowd as an artist. It's disengaging. People want to see your eyes.
|
She needed to read the lyrics - it wasn't her show!

Way COOL! You must have been super excited and on cloud 9 to see Stevie in such an intimate setting like that. Thank goodness for Twitter or you might have never have known Stevie was going to be there and so close by. Okay, I am jealous now. :D
|
i know this is superficial but i gotta say:
those glasses aren't flattering on stevie. tinted lenses don't look good on anyone - and she should really go for something a little cooler. just my 2 cents she also showed up at Largo a few nights ago - one of the best (and smallest) venues in LA. |
This might be completely unrelated, but JESUSGOD I would love for Stevie to do a small, intimate venue tour.
That is all. |

Excerpt from an interview with Vanessa by Windy City Times, July 20, 2011:
http://www.windycitymediagroup.com/g....php?AID=32903 Windy City Times: After seeing the new video for "Carousel" your outfit reminded me of Stevie Nicks a little. Vanessa Carlton: Well, part of it was a little ode to Stevie and a lot of it was channeling classic female songwriters from the '70s that I feel like their ecstatic comes in every now and then. But I love the video so much; it's so clean, beautiful and natural. I really worked closely with my friend Tracy Moulton who is an amazing costume designer. I wound up wearing a $10 vintage kimono thing that we just turned into a dress for a stunning new design like that white amazing dress. It is about channeling something that is very natural and ethereal. Windy City Times: You have toured with Stevie in the past and she has given you some amazing compliments, referring to you as "one of the great ones." Vanessa Carlton: I am lucky to have her in my life—not just as an artistic totem, but to be able to call her a friend. She is a really good friend. |
Very cool.

I love Stevie and Vanessa's friendship.
And I'm also completely envious of both talented ladies. |

From Vanessa's tour diary: Just found out Madame Stevie Nicks might be coming to the show tonight. She has been a steadfast friend and totem for me over the years. She seems to really love this record. I hope she feels part ownership cause she sequenced the songs for me and it had a huge impact on the flow of the songs. She's a KILLER sequencer. Stevie's favorite song off of Rabbits is "Hear the Bells" but I haven't played it live yet. She'll wanna hear it tonight but I'm STILL not square on how to make it haunting in a live setting. ****. Honestly, "Bells" is my favorite song as well. I was so sick for so long (I have yet to really talk about what happened to me with the press. Someday) and this song is a musical map to a remedy. Why have I not played it live yet? Have I been saving it for something? By the end of the drive, we find out that Mizz Nicks is indeed coming to the show. .I start to feel more at ease. Cut to me going on in 10 minutes and Stevie pops into my dressing room. The first things she asks is, "Are you doing Bells?" Doh. I ask her if she feels like singing "Carousel," with me instead. She seems to be in the mood and looks stunning. She ends up singing her magical harmonies on "Carousel" and closing the show. A quick glass of wine backstage post-show and I promise Stevie I'll have "Bells" ready for the Bardot show for KCRW's "It's A School Night." Rad station. It's an excellent event and must do Monsieur Chris D proud. I'm quite sure Stevie has never played a spot as small as Bardot and she's that much cooler that she'd be down to do it. At the end of the day what means the most to Stevie is VIBE July 11th - Wake and we drive back to LA.....KCRW Show at Bardot Stevie meets us at Bardot for soundcheck and rehearsal. We run "Bells." Feels really vibey. Stevie and I head back to the Sunset Marquis to get ready. I slip on a black Electric Feathers dress and Stevie shows me her immaculately tailored black jacket...very Gaultier, but not. It's custom-made. Ms. Nicks has had her own dressmaker (Margi Kent) since the '70s and tells me that Margi glues a jewel under the arch of each of her eyebrows every. single. day. of her life. AMAZING. We head back to Bardot and this happened.... (pic posted on the link) July 12th Post-show...into my next-day return home to NYC 2:30 a.m....Post-show Stevie gives me very specific instruction on how to get back-of-head-hair-volume. She sticks these two curlers in my hair with special clips (picture on link) that feel like nothing. I will probably walk through airport security tomorrow with them still in tact cause I seriously can't feel them.Whatever I've had worse things happen. Curlers in your hair are way better than a TSA dude discovering your pocket rocket. Yep. Happened. 5:00 a.m. lobby call. I didn't sleep at all (instead watched an infomercial for an hour) and drag my feet and bags to meet Mark out front (sans curlers). We pour ourselves some serious coffee and head to LAX. The no zzzzzz's hits me like bricks on the flight back home to NYC and I sleep the whole way -- gotta be fresh for my Rolling Stone live session AND I have lunch with my mom. Never cancel lunch with mom, Emily Post would NOT approve. To.Be.Continued...... |
