Stevie Interview with More magazine
I stumbled across this last night after reading the liner notes thread and seeing Amanda Ghost's name again. I'm not sure if anyone has posted this or not, but it's not a bad read.
Stevie Nicks on Love, Loss and What She Wears |
I'm glad she's finally set the record straight with the whole Amanda Ghost thing; not a co-writer, just the inspiration. Now those random stories about her being a co-writer makes sense.
|
Makes you wonder where those FAKE copyright credits come from, when people were INSISTING that A.G. co-wrote "Ghosts Are Gone"...
:laugh::laugh: |
That interview was great; thanks Dark Angel!
|
She's back to that "somebody stole my tapes" BS. I think she was more honest in the interview where she said that she made copies of them and gave them out. But I'm glad to finally know what this mysterious "song vault" is.
|
Well, back in a radio interview in 1981, Stevie went on and on about the "stolen tapes", concerning "Sorcerer", "Cathouse Blues" and the rest of her songs on the bootleg album, Almanac. The radio interviewer even played part of that early "Sorcerer", and Stevie sang along with it!
But this collection of songs (which includes "Secret Love") is one that Stevie said was actually stolen from her Vault. So, maybe she's right this one time. I think she changes her mind about the demos being out there as the moon strikes her. "Sometimes it was heavenly... Sometimes it was too heavy..." |

Thanks for the link to this, Dark Angel. It was one of the better interviews I've read lately. Jamie |
Oh God. Stevie's read Twilight. Doesn't surprise me, but confirmation that Mama acknowledges that grim little series' existence just depresses me. I'd rather read the back of a Dettol bottle for three solid hours than thumb through that pubescent slush.

And really, I try not to judge other people's pastimes and interests. Mainly because it would be way too easy for anyone to judge me for spending this much time on a Stevie Nicks fansite;) As long as I don't have to partake, I'm down with anyone and everyone going twi-crazy. |

I'm not going to lie, when I was reading her answer to the Twilight question I kept saying to myself, "Just stop talking, just stop.."
I myself read the Twilight series right when their popularity totally spiked (before the first movie, about 2 years go I guess)... but I was 15 years old. I read them all in like a week, and then about a week later realized just how badly written they actually were. Went to see the movie with a friend and made fun of it and laughed the entire time because it was so awkward and bad. So it doesn't bother me that Stevie's read them - I just wish she wouldn't talk about it because there are so many Twilight haters who are going to judge her for it lol. Although, I did appreciate the fact that she said she really only liked the vampires because of the forbidden love aspect. That kind of redeemed it a little because it reinforces that Stevie's just a big romantic, she's not sitting there drooling over Edward or wanting him to suck her blood anything. |
I love this article. Good questions about the new album and not the same old questions and pat answers we've heard 100 times. Now, if we only had some new photo shoots.
|
She claims she is now at her thinnest since the mid-nineties???? What??
I don't think she's been this thin since The Dance |

Interesting that she indicates that she only read the one Rice book.

For example, when I read The Da Vinci Code, it was mainly because I couldn't stand not actually knowing what it was that I was heaping disapproval on, but lo! When I started reading it, I hated the writing but I had to finish it because I was hooked on the story. There's no shame in that, and I think Stevie Nicks has always been able to spot a narrative hook. Loz |

Interesting that Stevie said that the movie people will know that she's written a story inspired by the Twilight series. Makes you wonder if there's some collaboration cooking. I know there have been hopes and rumors along those lines, but nothing concrete.
I've read the Twilight books. The books aren't great, but they're a lot better than the movies. What I found most engrossing was not the forbidden love aspect, but the unconditional part of it. However, for me the romance was marred by the fact that it was a triangle. There can be a third party in a relationship (i.e. Wuthering Heights), but only if it's clear that the feeling for the third party doesn't rival the "great" love shared by the hero and heroine. In the Twilight series, Bella's feelings for Jacob seemed just a shade less passionate than those she had for Edward and Edward was selfless to the point of being willing to share her with Jacob, if that's what she wanted. That kind of undermined the whole thing for me. But I can't write it off as just a badly written Harlequin romance that meant nothing to me, because I have very strong criticisms about Eclipse, to the point where I felt reflexive dismay when Stevie said it was a great book. An involuntary gasp of disappointment escaped from my lips upon reading that sentence. So . . . whatever talent she lacks, Stephenie Meyer did get under my skin. I can't deny that. As far as liking the performers who portrayed the characters. . . THEY CAN'T ACT. There's nothing to like and I don't think any of the three are physically attractive. Michele |
I hate she bashes True Blood, and says the show has no romance. That's patently untrue... Bill & Sookie have a grand romance which very much fits the same parameters of Edward & Bella on Twilight. There's a whole forbidden thing with a human being involved with a vampire, the vampire protecting the human from all the craziness of the supernatural, etc.
|
I'm more disturbed that Stevie doesn't seem to notice how pathetic Bella is. The character is simply unable to function without a man. I think these books are terrible for young girls, and I don't understand how any adult can like them. That said, I still really like the song Moonlight, much to my chagrin!
I'm a big fan of True Blood. Both the show and the books. I agree with you Louie (although I prefer Eric and Sookie). |
Yeah, and these kids are very injured, and the last thing they're going to be able to do is download music, and almost every single one of them had an iPod that got blown up in Iraq or Afghanistan. So I put everything on it...
That is such bizzare, wacky statement/thought! But I don't expect anything less from her. Stevie's reality and her way of thinking are uniquely hers. Oh the tragedy of one's own iPod! |
I teach seventh grade and lived through Twilight mania. For the record, I am willing to support just about anything that will get my kids to read a series of big, fat books. Yes, they're trite and Bella kind of sucks, but those books are right up a twelve-year-old's alley. As an adult, I think vamp-lite is terrible and the last book was *literally* the worst book I've ever read. Eclipse was decent. But consider the audience...

Kind of off topic, but when I was in high school there was a girl that had the line from Interview with the Vampire, "Drink From Me, and Live Forever" tattooed. I'm a huge Anne Rice fan, but  |
I'd like to know what music Stevie picks to put on those i-pods, especially what rap songs she chooses.

More: I wonder if they're going to hear that song and know that it was inspired by that movie?
SN: Oh, they're going to know. :D |
She also mentions a Moonlight music video...? :P

I have to admit something.
I never read Blackwood Farm or Blood Canticle. They've sat on my shelves since release date. :sorry: I think that by not reading them, the story can never end. My favorites are Queen of the Damned, Memnoch The Devil, The Vampire Armand and Merrick. Blood And Gold is great too. And Pandora. Oh, and Vittorio. OK I like them all! |

Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle has a ton of Mayfair Witch/Vampire cross-over. I love both series, but I really didn't like her combining them. |

I certainly hope that Stevie reads a little more of Anne Rice. If something as juvenile as Twilight could inspire a song as great as Moonlight - I can only imagine the inspiration Stevie might find in Cry To Heaven, Queen of the Damned or Belinda - or any of Anne's other amazing works. |
