Haley Reinhart to sing Rhiannon on American Idol tonight

Seems that Haley Reinhart is going to sing Rhiannon tonight on the show! :) I hope this is 100% fact and not rumour. If it is...I am sorry, but usually leaked info about AI is true. We shall find out later this evening.

Haley Reinhart to sing Rhiannon

Oh and BTW, the Producer who chose the song? Jimmy Iovine. ;)

EDITED: The original spoilers were wrong. MJ's has Haley's. Here's what's right:
Haley Reinhart is doing "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette, "What Is And What Should Never Be" by Led Zeppelin, and "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood Mac. The Fleetwood Mac song will probably be boring, but the other 2 have a lot of potential!"

Allycattt 05-18-2011 11:07 AM

This better be good...

skcin 05-18-2011 11:17 AM

I like Haley, but she doesn't know what direction to go in. I think this could be really perfect for her - she had better not f*ck it up. :wavey:

Artemis 05-18-2011 11:42 AM

I wonder which arrangement she'll use. The guitar one that... I want to say Didi(?) used last year, or a more rocking one. I can't believe they said it'll be boring; if it's done right, Rhiannon is incredible.

Dodfather 05-18-2011 12:25 PM

This could be fantastic. I liked the more mellow version Didi did last year and so I doubt Hayley will repeat that. If she doesn't end up doing crazy mad 70s style vocals at the end then it's a real wasted opportunity. I think she's brilliant, a great voice!

After the Didi travesty, it's more than understandable why "boring" would come to mind.

kick.inside 05-18-2011 01:41 PM

Normally I'm extremely wary of anyone covering one of my favorite artists, but I've been saying for a long time now that I think Haley would be good at Rhiannon, especially a wilder version like the Rosebud one or whatever. We'll see how it goes. I'm actually kind of excited for this. I do love her voice.

Regina 05-18-2011 01:49 PM

Blech. And, since I need more than 10 characters, double-blech.
YMMV, of course.

WildHearted 05-18-2011 03:15 PM

If she can muster up a kick ass rocking out version, it will be great. If they try to go acoustic it will probably be not so great.

If she were smart she would go crazy and pull an exorcism young Stevie style.

Never thought about it, but since Jimmy recommended it, maybe he'll push her to do a version like that.

BallerinaAngel 05-18-2011 04:00 PM

Hi, I'm new on here and wanted to put my 2 cents in about Haley's song for tonight. My 5 year old daughter is a big Haley fan(therefore Mom & Dad too) and also she loves Stevie Nicks(Mom's influence of course!) so she and I are going to be thrilled to see Rhiannon performed tonight! I also hope she does a really rockin' version of it and slays it! Btw, really enjoyed seeing Stevie on DWTS last night...she looked great and happy! Love it when she smiles!

Phoenix 05-18-2011 04:05 PM

Oh great. Now We're all going to see RHIANNON shoot past secret love on its way up to join friend landslide on the itunes chart:laugh:

I'm sure Stevie won't be complaining. Money is money. TBH I'd be glad to hear one of Stevie's older songs get some more attention and back off of Landslide for a while, give it some room to breath .

Having her do a toned down acoustic version would be indescribably foolish. Someone did that last year for one, and her voice is soooo perfect for a crazy rocking version that they'd be idiots not to take advantage of that.
This is an actual confirmed thing and not another rumor, right? Oh well. I guess I'll find out in less than an hour.
I think there needs to be another "rumors" forum here on The Ledge - not like the album Rumours, but for discussing things related to the band that are merely rumors. Haha I'm so clever.

This is actually confirmed, I believe.

And yes, that's what I'm referring to - if they do it in the vein of the previous Idol cover of the song it will be a waste and I don't think it will go down well. I'm sure Jimmy will steer her in the right direction.

WildHearted 05-18-2011 08:09 PM

They just showed Haley before the commercial break - she flipped up some dripping chiffon at the camera.

DeeGeMe 05-18-2011 08:22 PM

Not impressed with her efforts. Even with the wind and fog machines.

WildHearted 05-18-2011 08:24 PM

She somehow managed to make it boring :/

It just wasn't good. Also, I kept wondering why I thought something was missing and I realized that I was looking for a mic stand hahahaha

MarkMc1990 05-18-2011 08:25 PM

I'm pretty disappointed in that performance. With the right level of energy she could have made it amazing. She is still my favorite and I hope she makes the finale.

DarkUponLight 05-18-2011 08:25 PM

It would've been 100 times better had she done a wild wailing Stevie ending...

Exactly.

Jimmy even stressed like building up to the big ending but... she didn't really do anything with it.

I have to agree.

Regina 05-18-2011 09:07 PM

See, the way I see Haley is as almost a saloon singer. Tough cookie. Seen too much for her years (not in real life, just the aura she gives). The airy-fairy Rhiannon myths are just not her bag (neither is the dripping chiffon and/or wind machines). And, she bailed on the only part that could have made it something that it wasn't tonight. But, I'm not sure she has the control button on her growling/screaming voice. And I think that's what made even Stevie's exorcism versions of Rhiannon special. The control throughout, the sort of fight with control over the end and then the wailing from deep in her gut. By the end of the song (with Stevie) you felt like you needed to throw some holy water on her and have a Gatorade for yourself.

Uh...what was the question again? Oh, yeah. I didn't like this thing much but I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. I actually thought it was just a really bad choice for her.

Josh2003 05-18-2011 09:50 PM

I have no opinion on her performance, but I was very impressed with the arrangement, musically...it incorporated the piano intro from The Dance, then picked up into the music of the original White Album version, and the way she ended was very reminiscent of the earlier/late-70s live versions. Someone did their homework!

louielouie2000 05-18-2011 09:57 PM

Overall, it sounded like a little girl singing along to Stevie in her bedroom. :sorry: Though it was starting to show some real promise towards the end. I've gotta say, this performance makes me miss the old days when they'd put fans on Stevie to add to her dramatic stage presence. :D

kick.inside 05-18-2011 10:08 PM

I love Haley, LOOOOOOOOOVE her voice, but the performance disappointed me. She could have done so much more with it. I've been saying for ages now (I've mentioned it in other threads, I think) that I'd love to hear her do Rhiannon, and this was so anticlimactic for me. It wasn't bad, just not even close to what it potentially could have been.

sodascouts 05-18-2011 10:20 PM

I like Haley -she's my fave now that James is gone - but she just didn't get into the spirit of the song. I guess she was stressing too much over forgetting the lyrics. It didn't work for me.

Agreed! Haley is, by far the best singer left on the show, and I honestly think she was nervous because she admired Stevie so much. At the end she looked up at the ceiling, and put her hand on head, and said something like "man, I just love Stevie so much."
She did well, but, no one can ever touch Stevie when she is on fire! No one!

p.s. on your sig line....did a duck really walk into your kitchen this morning?

PenguinHead 05-18-2011 10:22 PM

I love Haley. She is an amazing singer. The arrangement of the song wasn't the best, but that doesn't take away from the fact that she is immensely talented. I noticed she got the first line wrong: "Rhiannon is like bell through the night." It's too bad that they didn't give her a more rocking arrangement. Of course we Ledgies are going to be more highly critical than others - just because...we drew a line in the sand!

Jondalar 05-18-2011 10:38 PM

yeah, and Fleetwood Macs Greatest Hits jumped about 100 spots on itunes

She didn't have time to do anything with it. If she had more time she could of done "all the same" and took it there, but there was no time. I thought she did a good job channeling the ethereal side of Stevie.

Etisl 05-18-2011 10:41 PM

I am sure she was a little nervous.... With Stevie....because her voice and style are so very distinct....it can be very intimidating to do one of her songs....

And...was that Jimmy Iovine in the audience at the end. I wonder what he thought...of someone doing Stevie's song....???

Jimmy chose the song for Haley

BallerinaAngel 05-18-2011 11:12 PM

I agree that she did what she could with the song given that she only had a minute and a half. Wished she would have done a bit more on the ending but thought she did a good job even so. I hope she makes it into the final 2. The Led Zeplin song she sang was insanely good....AMAZING!

Well I'm sure you know that's a quote from Christine, but I do have two pet ducks so maybe I'll leave the door open one day and we'll see what happens. ;)

wildheart048 05-19-2011 05:31 AM

I thought she did a decent job, but wish someone had sat her down to watch the midnight special version...wish she had tried to do more of the live version...but of course, how much can you do with a minute and half? She definatley had Stevie's 'video face pose' down:] and I loved the wind machine...

She totally RAWKED on WIAWWNB, though...THAT was amazing...and besides the little forgotten words snafu, thought she was great on You Oughta Know, too...

I'm praying for some girl on girl action next week :D cuz Howdy Doodie really bother's me...

APerfectLie 05-19-2011 05:47 AM

I just saw her performance, and while it wasn't bad, it wasn't great. She is definitely no Stevie Nicks and the wind machine would have been much more effective had she been wearing the wings. I don't see why anyone who has the opportunity to go on that stage and evoke that wild crazy energy Stevie used to use during Rhiannon would opt to play it safe. When AI gets this close to the end, it isn't about the voice, it is about performance, and hers was lackluster, especially compared to Stevie.

SaraThePoet 05-19-2011 07:01 AM

Covering a Stevie song is like climbing Everest, few will try and fewer will succeed:)

Regina 05-19-2011 07:05 AM

All the contestants have plenty of input on how they want the songs do. And, if you can do an outstanding job on one 1 1/2 minute version of a song, you can do it with a chopped up Rhiannon, too.
So, not buying the excuse.
I personally think the song was a poor match for her, but she also totally ducked out on the ending. And, if she said she's a massive fan of 70s rock and LOVES Stevie, she should have heard all the kick-ass Rhiannons through the years. I think she'd be better suited to GDW, personally, or (gulp! dare I say it) Silver Springs.
