First week sales?

What does everyone think Stevie first sales are going to be?

My guess would be a 90,000-115,000 debuting at number 4.

I could be wrong. Maybe she will get the number one spot!!!!

Musicman408 03-26-2011 06:50 PM

I just hope she cracks the top 20... top 15 would be great! Anything higher is beautiful!

ummm I would love for it to hit those numbers, but I don't think it will. She is not coming off something like the Dance. TISL sold like 104,000. This album won't sell as well initially. Hopefully around 60. Her live album bombed.

Keep in mind that Sheryl Crows, Heart, Jewel, Alanis, Melissa Ethridge, Hole's last albums have not even went gold! Women aren't doing too well unless they are Country.

Those numbers sound a bit aggressive to me. My guess is she'll crack the top 20 for sure. With Soundscan being the way album sales are now calculated, I'm betting her sales figures will be far more conservative this time around. My guess is 35,000-50,000 at most. I dearly hope I'm wrong and Stevie ropes in another top 5 spot and sells hundreds of thousands of copies... but I'm guessing that won't be the case.

APerfectLie 03-26-2011 07:04 PM

I have no clue what her first weeks sales will be, but I think she could easily take #1. The only other band releasing an album that day that I've ever even heard of is Fleet Foxes, and I doubt they will be massive competition.

Artemis 03-26-2011 07:06 PM

Didn't Christina Aguilera (at least, I THINK it was her) debut at number 1 with 45K sales?

I'm predicting a top 5/3 debut for this album, followed be a rapid decline. I think it'll go Gold within... five years.

Don't think it'll do anything outside of the US.

This is what I'm hoping. I'm hoping that this album actually has good word of mouth and stays on the charts for awhile. She really hasn't had that happen since the Wild Heart.

That has changed. Adele sold over 300,000 to get the number #1 spot. It's back up again.

But she was bumped down for a while and regained the #1 spot two days ago with only 98,000. The number 2 album was Rise Against's new album which sold 85,000and the number 3 album only pulled in 47,000.If Stevie can pull in 100,000 the first week and there are no super albums out there topping the charts (Britney Spears maybe??) then she should easily sail into #1. If not, she should have no problem getting within the top 5.

Artemis 03-26-2011 07:42 PM

Adele's 300k sales aren't really typical though, plus she's been super-promoted and hyped up as the next big thing (and Rolling in the Deep is a kick-ass song) so that explains why she's done so well.

I'd just love for Stevie to get a #1 album, simply for the whole pageantry of the whole affair! Ten years since her last studio album, thirty years since her first solo album also hit #1... etc. It's like a musical fairytale

Jondalar 03-26-2011 07:48 PM

I'm really interested to see what Stevie does overseas, especially since she is with Dave Stewart. I'm sure there will be some animosity about Dave not being Annie. It's going to be neat to watch what happens.

I know this isn't sound scan but I thought we could use it for reference. Earlier today I checked her position on amazon and she was number six. 9PM EST the same day and she is number four

Amazon Bestsellers Rank: #90 in Music (See Top 100 in Music)
#84 in Music > Pop > General
#48 in Music > Rock > General
#4 in Music > Classic Rock > Album-Oriented Rock (AOR)

I'm from Ireland and I can't see Stevie charting very well (if at all) over here. She's not very big here at all. FM are bigger.

Fleetwood Mac's bigger everywhere, but if somehow this album ever sold a million in the U.S. it would surpass the sales of Say You Will. That would be something.

As of right now, the Top 10 on Billboard consists of acts like Adele, Glee, Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne and Lupe Fiasco. Between now and then, Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Foo Fighters and Jessie J have album releases.

The week Stevie releases "In Your Dreams," she has competition from Musiq Soulchild and Colbie Caillat. I think it's very realistic she'll be in the Top 20, hopefully the Top 10 depending on if Britney, Bieber, Glee and others shift down the chart in a months time. Also, if she is definately on Oprah and is prominately featured on iTunes main page and in mags like Rolling Stone, she should be fine.

However, if I had to guess, I'd estimate sales of anywhere between 75-120 for the first week. But I wouldn't at all be surprised if she drops off soon after and sales decline only due to the fact that in the few weeks after her release, she faces Lil Wayne's Carter IV (if it's even released then) and Lady GaGa.

I thought Colbie's album got pushed back to July 12. It's Jennifer Lopez album LOVE that is released on May 3 and she has a big hit to back it. She is also facing competition right now from the Beastie Boys.

Stevie is currently kicking the Beastie Boys and Jennifer's butt on amazon. However, they seem to be getting better promotion though itunes and billboard magazine. We shall see.

Could be. That crap changes so much it's hard to keep up with it. Either way, she has some stiff competition but I still think she'll fare well, and better than what most anticipate.

Jondalar 03-26-2011 09:56 PM

I wonder why Jennifer Lopez album is only 11.99 on amazon and the Beastie Boys is 9.99, while steveis is over $14.00?

J.Miller 03-27-2011 12:38 AM

Let the Majic Begin

Taking a line from a Tom Petty song'' I don't hear a single'', If that is the case it will be Stevie's 'base ' that buys this album. How big Stevie's base is another question. Going on this IYD should be in the top 10 the week it is released . Be prepared for it to get only 20,000 or less the first week. Hopefully over time it tops around 300,000. On the other side of coin very few people have heard this music in total. People that have are gushing over it. Is David Wild going to review it for Rolling Stone? How many stars? 3 1/2 or 4 or 4 1/2.? Someone giving IYD 5 stars would be insanity on their part ,but what if it is that good? The Heart and Soul Tour may help more than we think. An Oprah appearance done right could do wonders. Are Warner/Reprise going push the music and if they do will it work? The sizzle reel is wonderful but is anybody going to see it. Could the sizzle reel be cut down to 60 or even 30 seconds to be used on internet or TV spots or whatever. Is there a single for the next Twilight movie. What if the Stevie movie Dave made is epic, will non chiffonheads stomach it? Forget MTV and for the most part VH1, Stevie needs to get all of her stuff on Palladia(they play a lot of concerts old and new).Fleetwood Mac's Live in Boston from the Say You Will tour has been on Palladia recently. Which now comes down to radio airplay. Breaking into Billboards top 100 pop charts and hanging around there all summer would be a dream. I am hoping Stevie's new music breaks into the countless outlets where music is played.Stevie being nominated for a Grammy is probably a given. Getting a nomination for record or song of the year would be fantastic. Maybe the world is inching Stevie's way a little. Harry Potter , Twilight and other fantasy outlets may bring in new listeners. American Idol and Glee have featured Stevie's music. Lastly the lady herself-- THIS STEVIE NICKS!!!

No, they will be. Fleet Foxes have a HUGE fan following and are generally renowned in the indie scene. I don't think she'll beat them.

There album only sold +200,000 copies in the U.S. Maybe they are still building a following because they new, but I bet Stevie takes them.

Agreed. Fleet Foxes are pretty big. All my music aficionados, and even myself, LOVE them. They're a great band. Their new record is highly anticipated.

I just checked Fleet Foxes is doing better on Amazon.com It's like 66 while Stevie's is 86. However, their album is $8.99. Her album is over $14.

GoldDustOrphan 03-27-2011 08:03 AM

Any number of factors could help or hinder first Stevie's first week sales, but she'll debut in the top 5. Reprise has been pushing advance purchase because all advance order sales are applied to first week sales and Reprise knows her demo isn't the kid that must have an album the week of release.

The label is smart for marketing the CD on its own terms, almost as thought it were a luxury item or lifestyle. It worked last year for Sade Adu's first album in 10 years. She debuted at #1 with half a million in sales and without the benefit of hit single or top 40 airplay.
\
Approximately 75% of Jennifer Lopez's long-delayed, and really awful Love? has already leaked since it was rejected by her last label. Even the few newly recorded songs are leaking. Single "On the Floor"'s brief, five-week run on the Hot 100 might won't help move units. It's debut high based on first week sales, peaked at #5 last week and this week plummeted to 13 -because radio isn't embracing it as expected. Her fanbase is likely to download the CD because they already own most of it and her two prior albums stiffed.

The Beastie Boys project is somewhat non-traditional and it's release trajectory might change.

Fleet Foxes will be competition.

Stevie should just fake a suicide attempt a week before the album arrives, film a reality show 48 hours after the attempt and hit the talk shows in under a week. She'll triple her predicted numbers even without a top 40 hit. Worked for Fantasia.

Jondalar 03-27-2011 10:55 AM

I wonder if they take into account discounted sale items. They are practically giving Fleet Floxes album away and it's out on Vinyl too, plus I think there is a deluxe version.

David 03-27-2011 11:10 AM

Her album will sell 450,000 the first week, which will land her at #2.

But radio still needs to start playing her new music.

skuncles 03-27-2011 11:19 AM

My guess is first week sales would be in the 10,000-20,000 range. These days those are pretty decent for first week. The album will be at least top ten, but then quickly drop. The only people looking for this album are the die hard core fans. The general music buying/downloading public doesn't know about nor care that there is a new album on the horizon.

Jondalar 03-27-2011 11:35 AM

I wonder what Stevie's record company thinks the album will sell?

Jondalar 03-28-2011 10:13 AM

hmmm Stevie's album is still not being discounted as much as the other albums.

Oh please... Live in Chicago sold 19K during its first week with minimal promotion during the middle of a Fleetwood Mac tour, no less. I would venture to guess that first week sales will be in the 50K - 75K range and that she will chart in the Top 5. But this is only assuming that WB has done a halfway decent job of promoting this thing which, as of now, it seems like they are failing miserably so far. If they can turn this ship around quickly enough, the sky is the limit.

You know who would be a prime target audience? The ComicCon contingent. They would eat this stuff up!

I agree that Stevie's album will do better than that. What is interesting though is that Stevie is not coming off a thing like The Dance and there is no big VH1 promotion so far. If this album is actually good and gets good word of mouth like Bella Donna and the Wild Heart and the music just catches on and somehow some of the songs find a home, it might stay around for awhile. That's what I'm hoping. It would be nice if Stevie's album would hit #1 just for the promotion factor. And if retailers see that it has hit #1, maybe they will order more. There is just so much agism and sexism in rock and roll though. She has a lot to fight against.

LMAO :lol: but you may be onto something.

A few months back, before we heard SL and the sizzle reel, I was thinking upwards of 50K 1st week sales, but after hearing and seeing what we are in store for, I can see the possibility of a 1st week take upwards of 75K or more, depending on what the promotion starts to look like 2-3 weeks before 5/3.
Does anyone else find it interesting that SL is the current single, but is not even featured in the IYD trailer? I guess, maybe the thought is, we'll get the SL vid soon, or could be that WBR is planning on releasing another promotional track right before the IYD release date.

Seriously, I think Stevie appearing at ComicCon would be tremendous. Maybe ten years ago it would have been unspeakably tacky, but it's such a huge phenomenon today, and this album fits in nicely with fans of Dungeons and Dragons, the Twilight series and Lord of the Rings. And from what I can tell, the videos for "Moonlight" and/or "Annabel Lee" appear to be rather steampunk. Very au courant, I would say. It would be awesomely surreal to see William Shatner, George Takei and Stevie together in the same room signing autographs.

GoldDustOrphan 03-28-2011 10:51 AM

I hope there's still a system in place to integrate Warner music into Warner TV productions and CW programming, because that exchange is not as fluid as it once was. There's a little show on The CW called "The Vampire Diaries" that employs lots of music. It's a ratings hit with a Stevie-friendly demographic. New episodes begin next week.

Every delivery system available should be used. And the Comic-con crowd is fertile for this, since the trailer is also selling them a visual lifestyle/fantasy world as well.

First Week Album Sales IYD

What are your guesses on how many albums she'll sell in the first week according to SoundScan? iTunes downloads? Just curious what range you think she'll be in...

Whoever guesses the closest will receive a special gift from me! (Stevie related)

MacMan 04-19-2011 08:51 PM

How big of a range do you want?

I'll say between 75k and 95k

Artemis 04-19-2011 08:52 PM

65k. Top 3 debut.

APerfectLie 04-19-2011 10:12 PM

87K with a #2 debut.

J.Miller 04-19-2011 10:18 PM

48k- there are a lot distractions out there. Gas keeps on going up. I am looking at about 4 weeks after its release . Will it still be at 20k or more by then?
