I just got my first letter from a person who says he is trying my work thanks to the new Stevie Nicks song. I must say, I'm honored by Stevie Nicks' mention of me in that song. And hearing it makes me so homesick for New Orleans. So home sick for the oaks of uptown and the twilight sky over the Garden District, and the breeze off the river.

This is soooo awesome!!!!!!!

WildHearted 05-09-2011 08:41 PM

Awesome :)

Maybe Stevie will brush by Anne Rice one of these days!

xxxmx 05-09-2011 08:43 PM

This did make my inner middle-schooler giggle. I was obsessed with Anne Rice back in the day, and clearly Stevie as well. Never did I think the two would ever come together (and I really dislike the song), but when I first heard Stevie coo Anne's name, it was kind of extraordinary.

Makes me want to write Anne a letter........

Thanks for sharing!

:wavey:

Jondalar 05-09-2011 08:45 PM

People on Anne Rice's facebook are saying they are going to check out that song. :) :) :)

...hmmmm I smell a new Anne Rice series coming on.

But not likely in New Orleans, since she apparently doesn't live there anymore! Though I guess the vampires are still there.

Jondalar 05-09-2011 08:48 PM

Stevie is like some wondrous creature from New Orleans.

yes, she left new orleans, but it's really where her spirit lies, she misses it

Anne's life got turned upside down. I think the Christian stuff is wearing off. She writing a book about Atlantis.

rubylounge 05-09-2011 08:55 PM

I guess Anne lives in California now. Ironically her daughter Michele died of leukemia just like Stevie's Robin.

nah, not with Anne

Hell, she might start a whole new series

Anne Rice should write Stevie in as a witch queen of some kind in a new Mayfair Witches book. :)

well, she had a vampire as a rock star, she could have a witch or priestess as one...

Anne Rice would be the right person to write about Rhiannon.

gypsy4life 05-09-2011 10:30 PM

This is super cool!! As soon as I heard the song, I had tried to email Anne , through her website (I do not have Facebook), but, there were so many tornadoes going through, I couldn't get an email out.

I think Stevie will be thrilled when she hears Anne wrote this.

...there is a longing in the that song that would make her homesick. The song definitely evokes that.

That's really cool. "The oaks of uptown & the twilight sky over the Garden District, & the breeze off the river."

I wish Rice had written the words for the song. It would have been amazing.

You really think that's better than:

"I wanna dress up, I wanna wear beads, I wanna wear feathers and lace..."

;)

Oh, man, nobody can pull you into a world like Anne Rice. However, I think Stevie's lyrics are just perfect.

"Garden District" is so romantic, oh it's so soulful.

Almost as good as cellar door.

Cool that Anne heard "New Orleans" and seems to like it.Definitely the big surprise on the album IMO.This song sounds like a timeless Stevie classic .

On Bourbon Street you see
People puking and they pee
I remember it all
Trash was everywhere
I tried not to fall...

not sure about the Bourbon St. reference as it's the most commercial-t-shirt shop- fratbar-hustler-strip club section of NOLA! waaaaaaaaaaaay too commercial and cheesy to evoke Stevie's magic! i guess she put that lyric in there because Royal street, with its art galleries and antique shops just isn't as well known to a national/international audience. i just don't see Stevie on Bourbon St. unless she popped into the Pub to have a drink with me!

Yeah, I was disappointed all she really sang about in the song was the Quarter, Bourbon St, etc. There's sooo much more to N.O. than that. Give me Magazine St over Bourbon St any day.

you know what would be really cool? If stevie ever did that Rhiannon album and Anne Rice wrote the intro for it... like a little story of Rhiannon

Dodfather 05-10-2011 03:35 AM

I love some of the Vampire Chronicles books - Interview... and The Vampire Lestat especially - so I'm really liking this Nicks-Rice "collaboration"!

Oh, and the film of Interview With The Vampire is spectacular!

Well, people who've never been to Louisiana or aren't from that part of the country don't know anything about it besides New Orleans, Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, and Mardi Gras.

I was born & raised in Louisiana, but north Louisiana, not south - they are so culturally different that they might as well be different countries. People don't understand that, however.

Them: So where are you from?
Me: Louisiana.
Them: Oh, New Orleans! (eyes light up and cue babbling about Mardi Gras & crawfish)
Me: No, I'm from north Louisiana...near Shreveport.
Them: But you must've spent a lot of time in New Orleans, I bet! (cue more babbling about the French Quarter, drinking, Mardi Gras, etc.)
Me: No, Shreveport is about a 6 hour drive from New Orleans.
Them: (blank stare, shaking head, confused look)

Exactly! This is what I have been saying all along ever since I heard the snippet at the N.O. concert! So disappointed with it. :sorry:

Eh, I dunno.....you don't really expect Nicks to rattle off every single aspect of New Orleans in a song do you?

She's describing New Orleans as many people know and love it: mardi gras, beads, vampires/Anne Rice, Bourbon Street. That's what is going to connect people with the song. And I'd say she's been successful, since many people point to "New Orleans" as a favorite.

+1

I took a road trip this past weekend, and IYD was all I played. I kept singing "I wanna get a room in New Orleans" all weekend once I arrived at my destination. My family was amused.

I think a few do. I agree with your statement. What's she supposed to do, write a biography on New Orleans? The song does its job well and it worked on Anne Rice.

I get this same thing living in Los Angeles. I had an out of town IM me once and said that they were coming to California and did we want to have lunch. When I asked where they were they said San Francisco. I said, well as much as I'd like to have lunch with you six hours is a long way to go to have lunch.

Oh, I just realized what that last sentence was after I wrote it. It's a real long way to go to have lunch. Have fun, try the rolls. :blob2:

[QUOTE=Anne Rice would be the right person to write about Rhiannon.[/QUOTE]

Absolutely. The original Rhiannon who rings like a bell through the night. Not the mabinogian Stevie writes about now. A dark haunting tale about a Welsh witch who lives in the forrest of the black roses, who uses crystal balls, and runs around like a spirit in flight with her drippy black chiffon sleaves. I've always loved the imagery used in the original Rhiannon song. Anne Rice is just the person to tell that story.
