least favourite lindsey album

just to follow up id be curious to know what the least favourite album is!

TrueFaith77 05-06-2011 02:19 PM

I'm really torn of late. Usually I choose UTS or OOTC. But now I think those could be the best. I think they are all just kinda equal.

bluefox4000 05-06-2011 04:22 PM

I did not vote because......Go Insane And Law and Order are equally appalling. And it's all up hill from there. The First 2 though.....are headache inducing....god dreadful, IMO.

Mick

Fiver 05-06-2011 04:39 PM

OotC might be my least favorite (don't kill me), but I still think it's pretty great. I don't think he's made a bad album.

mylittledemon 05-06-2011 04:43 PM

Definitely Law & Order or Go Insane... I personally don't think they compare to the latter 3 albums.

shackin'up 05-06-2011 04:54 PM

Out Of The Cradle is also my least fave- but still a great album!

mylittledemon 05-06-2011 04:57 PM

Really? Most people say it's their fave. I have to be honest though... I thought it was an extremely "weak" and by that I mean light-sounding record the first time I heard it. I expected crazy mad guitars (like on The Dance)... but the album has grown on me. The two that have never really grown on me are L&O and Go Insane... though I do really enjoy 4 or 5 tracks from each one.

CreepingDeath 05-06-2011 07:37 PM

Law & Order

Shadow of the West and Trouble are good. The rest aren't.

markolas 05-06-2011 08:30 PM

I love Law & Order. Not too crazy about Go Insane, but I haven't listened to it in a while. OOTC, UTS, & GOS are all great.

louielouie2000 05-06-2011 09:11 PM

Under The Skin. It's sooooo dull and never goes anywhere. :distress:

I can't believe all the hate for Go Insane! It's one of my fav 'art albums' of all time! It's just sooo "out there" and deliciously quirky.

I am with you. Under the Skin is the album I listen to the least. There's a few strong tracks but I don't love it. And Go Insane is so amazing! I was a late bloomer with it but it's such a great listening experience, and each single track is pretty awesome too. "DW Suite", yesss.

I especially love side two of GI.

DW Suite makes me giddy when I listen to it I love it so much!

Nico 05-06-2011 10:56 PM

Ok, firstly Go Insane is a work of genius. I think it's an amazing album all the way through. Smh at some of these responses- OOTC getting some "mehs" is also really, really heartbreaking but I'll get through it I guess. That album is perfect to me. I can't find fault in it. I once listened to it all the way through about 6 times, and I don't normally do that without some kind of an intermission or another album in-between. So I really don't agree with some of the comments about that one at all.:distress:

Now, Law & Order was a little more challenging for me at one point. I hated that September Song tune SO freaking much, and I still don't like it. But since then, I have grown to really dig this album and absolutely love Trouble, Mary Lee Jones, Bwana, It Was I, and THWDIILA.

Under The Skin has some beautiful stuff on it. I think I understand what Louie means, though, because the songs are a little slower. I believe there may have been a couple more slow numbers on there than what is usually preferred. And some of the songs, like Castaway Dreams and Under The Skin, I think, could have been a little less smothered in echo. But I do love and enjoy that album, really. I can't lie, I skip songs when I do my run-through. What is weird is, on that Elizabethtown album Shut Us Down is the standout but on UTS it just gets lost in the sea of similar. Maybe he needed a little more diversity in this collection? I don't know. All I know is there are a lot of gems on this album that end up being overlooked due to the songs sounding so much alike and being rather slow.

I really have not one complaint about Go Insane, Out Of The Cradle (duh), or Gift Of Screws. The other two are more of a challenge, but worth it.

I guess I listen the least to Under The Skin these days...but I still really love the album, despite Not Too Late (ugh, I HATE that song). Shoot, I remember the excitement and uncontrolled joy we all felt when he announced he was releasing it. I went crazy and bought as many tickets to as many shows as I could, thinking it would probably be the only chance I'd get to see him solo. lol! I really can't call it my least favorite album simply because it spawned all the current Lindsey drive. So, long story short, if I had to vote I'd say Law & Order. But even then...

i used to not Really like uts but its one of those albums which grows on you and you find yourself coming back to it! my first album was ootc and i loved it but gos is also good. my least fave would be go insane but only because its the album with themost tracks that i skip! :sorry:

bluefox4000 05-06-2011 11:27 PM

I just want to say.........I can see what Louie meant about UTS. I hated the thing upon release. But it was a grower.....a slow grower. Can't behind GI though. what a mess:shocked: I've tried over and over and over.......and Over. Cannot like the damn thing. I loathe it. Loathe is a bit strong......nah that's about right:lol:

Mick

caroline79 05-06-2011 11:36 PM

Really? Now I can't really participate because I have yet to hear the majority of LB's solo work but the song "Go Insane" is what got me interested in his solo work. I heard it and thought it was fantastic!

The other songs off that album I have heard are "I Want You" and "I Must Go" and I think those are excellent as well!

bluefox4000 05-06-2011 11:40 PM

It's ok it's all taste. One day when I was playing GI, The wife asked me if it came with Tylenol

McTrouble 05-07-2011 05:26 AM

Again, I always have to force myself to vote when it comes to Lindsey because he can't do anything wrong for me.

However, UTS is the one album which I alternate between loving and finding it a bit irritating. I am in a "loving it" mood at the moment but still had to vote for it.

The other 4 are always stupendous IMO.

Silver Springs 05-08-2011 04:45 AM

I opened this thread intending to be ruthless and vote for an album. It turns out I'm spineless and just can't do it. I love them all individually and equally for how different they are. Granted, they may not be universally loved, but that's fine because they are to me. I suppose if I had to rank the albums and pick out one which maybe I wouldn't listen to as much as the others, I would (very) reluctantly pick Gift Of Screws. But that hurts because I love it. I just love the others even more.

I suppose all I can do to choose is by a game of Ip Dip Doo. *Goes off to play the game to find an odd one out*

AWW ****! That's just my luck. I inadvertently picked my favourite, Go Insane. Not fair :( But I cannot defy the Ip Dip Gods for they are vengeful Gods (lol). So unfortunately....regretfully....very hesitantly......I suppose...Go Insane.

I am very proud of you for being so brave

Rather a Trite Thread !!!

 As a dedicated fan of Lindsey's work we will find a redeeming tune or two in each cd !
Such broad statements will not make us
disparage our most admired guitarists catalogue
of songs! Which friend do you admire the most?
All of ours have different traits we really like !!!

We are faithful to his work and do not care to vote! This is our Lindsey Buckingham creed!!!

erwk05 05-08-2011 07:04 AM

its interesting to see that no one has picked GOS!!!!!

Tellurium 05-08-2011 07:05 AM

I've been really naughty and voted even though I've never actually heard Law and Order. Whoops! But I went with Go Insane, but I do love it. Half of it is really great (Play in the Rain is earsex), but the other half I find a bit more in the pleasant-but-meh scheme of things.

Under the Skin was the album that got me into Lindsey's work in the first place. At the time I wasn't overly familiar with his catalogue, so I didn't really have a sense of how challenging (?) it might be for his fanbase. The mixed reception it gets is really interesting to me, but I still think of it as a masterpiece.

I do NOT understand how anybody could've voted for Out of the Cradle. ;) Each to their own, eh?

That makes one of us. I just feel terribly dirty now for voting at all, when I find none of his work worthy of a negative thought. But then again, I haven't yet heard the new album ;) Not that I expect it to break the trend at all :p

You know? After reading this, I'm just simply sorry for the fact that I voted. Because I totally agree with you. I play all those albums pretty frequently. But Tusk still the most. For 32 years.

Erin 05-10-2011 06:12 PM

I voted for Law & Order. I've tried to like it, really I have, but it just doesn't take me anywhere, as opposed to OOTC.

The first time I heard OOTC I was on a train, and popped the CD into my discman. Pure bliss. I was not on that train anymore. I was in musical nirvana. Despite some of the dark themes on that album, it always makes me so happy when I listen to it.

I am impressed that Gift of Screws has no votes. That's saying a lot for the latest release of a veteran musician.

TerraRhiannon 05-10-2011 06:14 PM

uh... I voted for Gift Of Screws cause I read the question wrong. Disregard that... *shifty eyes* lol

Great taste can not be explained.

Tusk will always be my favorite FM album. You can't touch that kind of genius.

And I didn't vote...I simply can't. It's Lindsey. His music simply brings me too much joy to vote for a least favorite album. Meh.

caroline79 05-10-2011 10:21 PM

I went ahead and voted for Law and Order even though I haven't heard much of the other albums because I just listened to it all the way through and all I can think is..."wtf did I just listen to?"

I like Bwana, It Was I and A Satisfied Mind a lot, but everything else.... I'm sure I will grow to like it but I know songs like Johnny Stew and THWDIILA are never gonna mean anything really deep to me

And Love From Here, Love From There..."They look you straight in the groin?":lol: I don't get these lyrics at all!

AND the CD is only 36 minutes? I feel gypped!

Take a deep breath and exhale. You've just embarked on the baffling yet brilliant journey that is LB's musical world, outside of FM. I promise you that this venture begins a little bumpy and there will be some unexpected turbulence, but none of it lasts long, and if you can endure these fleeting moments of absolute bewilderment and bizarreness it's a smooth and stunningly beautiful ride that will be worth every second.

Are you game?

I've had that album since I was a kid (my mother is a fan) and I still can only stand two songs.

Roughly same amount of years for me too - I love that I've had the pleasure of being a loyal fan for so many years! And I still have a Lindsey Day and a Fleetwood Mac Day every week playing only their stuff :]:]

Trouble

Shadow of the West. Mostly because of this:

"Memories like shadows scorched in the sand"

^^that line is delish.

xxxmx 05-11-2011 06:29 PM

Law & Order.

Trouble was always fun, and the acoustic retooling makes it simply sublime.

The rest, well, no.

I get it, he's an artist, but why does it have to be so artistic?
