Do drop me a line when you're in Austin. I'm too old and settled to go to OCH, but perhaps we can say hi somewhere else :). |

I too wish the song had more lyrical depth. After all her grand proclamations we've heard for years about this tune, the lyrics definitely don't live up to the hype. Musically, it's catchy, though. It's interesting, I expected this song to be something special, and for Soldier's Angel to be absolutely an abomination. It turned out quite the opposite! |

I really like this more than I thought I would. From her descriptions of wanting to get a certain New Orleans sound with the right producer, I was worried she would try to have horns or something.
As for pronunciation, she's too busy trying the English accent in "Everybody Loves You" to try to sound southern in this one. And imagine if she threw in a cajun accent. - Jake |
For some reason I'm really loving this song. It has made me want to visit New Orleans more than ever, and I actually very much want to start reading some Ann Rice- which I never have before. Suggestions?
BTW, For whatever reason I didn't realize we had any New Orleans guys on here!!! |

The Witching Hour is a huge book about witches but it was set in New Orleans and it stands fairly outside the vampires sequence so you could start with this one as well. Blackwood Farm is a later book in the vampire series but it doesn't rely so heavily on the built-up mythology of previous books, and its also very New Orleans-area based (and also very good). |
i really didnt like this song at first but now i love it. i love how she sings higher in certain parts of the song. i have always wanted to go to new orleans for mardi gras and now i want to go even more. i just gotta get over my crazy fear of flying, ha!! it sounds like such a great place and i hear the food is amazing!

I wonder if Stevie realizes that Anne Rice moved out of New Orleans a became a born again christian. I personally wish Anne would get back to her old ways and write some more horror novels. There is nobody better.

I'm glad that the song wasn't some maudlin thing about people drowning and looting and being stuck in the Superdome. As it is, it struck just the right chord.
About Anne Rice...I don't think "born again" is the right term. That implies a very conservative, evangelical brand of Christianity, and that isn't what Rice became involved in. I think she just became more active in her Catholicism. But I read somewhere that she had issues with their stance on homosexuality because of her son, and is no longer active. |

She re discovered her catholic roots and now is just a believer of Jesus Christ anne rice, Her son Christopher Rice is an excellent writer too love his books too. I instantly love this song , I can hear this song on the radio and also hear her do this live accousticly with just her and waddy the girls.

I attempted to email her, from her website last night, and because of the never ending tornadic weather here, I could not get an email through. Thanks again, Louie, for your never ending wealth of information!! So happy!! |
Anne Rice fans: You remember when Lestat thought it was fun to be a rock star (wasn't that in Queen of the Damned?). I always thought that his music would have been like a male version of Stevie Nicks.....at least all the dark witchy songs!
|
I read the Witching Hour series (Witching Hour, Lasher, & Taltos) several times a year and have for over a decade. The books are huge, expansive, overwhelming, rambling, and INCREDIBLE! Considering when they were originally written (late '80s), the taboo subject matter discussed within the books is pretty shocking. Anne Rice has had a HUGE effect on me through these books. Through discussing the most dark, hidden, shameful aspects of humanity I think she helps people understand why others act the way they do, and why we think the way we think. You'll pick up/learn something new every single time you read the books, and I've read them dozens of times. If you like very dark, gothic subject matter set in lush settings (New Orleans mainly), you'll LOVE the Witching Hour series.
Louie, I love The Witching Hour, (Lasher, Rowan and her ancestors,) its my favorite of the series... I'm sure Stevie would love the all consuming devotion Lasher has for his human soul mates. |

I like Anne Rice and Stevie Nicks because they do the same thing: they take you into a whole new world. I always said Stevie was the Anne Rice of rock n roll. |

Coming back to the Catholic church in no way equates being 'born again"that is purely an evangelical protestant conceit. All Ican say is thank God and the Blessed Virgin that Stevie has never been 'born again" that would have truly destroyed her art.

Has anyone else noticed at the 36 second mark in this song you can hear Dave say "Here we Go" - I hope that's only on the stream or else it will drive me crazy. I hear it every time and this is easily my current second favorite song on the album
