Best Buy Not Stocking IYD?

Just checked their website....nothing listed (and they usually post new releases at least three to four weeks before the street date).

This will be a MAJOR blow to sales if this is indeed the case!

I've just boycotted Best Buy for life!

Jondalar 04-21-2011 05:03 PM

she may not be selling enough, so they bounced her

Pretty much. It costs Best Buy money to keep stuff on their shelves. That's valuable real estate that needs to be taken by an artist which will move lots of copies. The days of buying CDs in stores is very, very limited. :distress:

daniellaaarisen 04-21-2011 05:08 PM

Just called my local record store.... the guy said that they'll "most likely" get the record in. Then I remembered that I'll be in NYC when it comes out and will have to somehow find it there!

Sad but true.

I go to Wal-Mart and look for Stevie all the time, the most I find is Crystal Visions, and the normal version of Rumours and I don't see that at everyone.

Owee! That hurts to think about, but it might be true.

Jondalar, I like your name. It sounds like an exquisite, exotic fragrance from Saks Fifth Avenue! You should find the highest bidder!

TheWILDheart 04-21-2011 05:20 PM

I almost DIED when I walked into HMV on Oxford Street in London earlier this year and found all THESE

I ca understand catalog, but a new release, and a pretty major one at that?
In fact, along with the Beastie Boys and Jennifer Lopez, Stevie is the biggest release for May 3rd!

Exactly. I don't see them not stocking it. They just may not have it available for preorder.

Interesting, this also points to the fact that Stevie's influence (which seems to have been slowly building in Europe the last decade) has finally bitten the UK - expanding beyond just OSOTM & Fleetwood Mac.

I was in Europe (Switzerland, Italy, France, Belgium, & Nederlands) for several months in 1990, and could not find Stevie Nicks cd's at all in the music stores I visited. Also when I was in London for 2 weeks in 1995, I came across the same dilemma. Fleetwood Mac -YES, Stevie Nicks-No. So it's great to see HMV stocking up on Stevie's solo catalogue.

Best Buy had copies of Soundstage, but I checked and they sat on the shelves forever.

Holy sheet.Look at all of those Stevie cds.I see 3 ot 4 slots full of Stevie cds.My local Walmart did nad a half a slot of Stevie cds at the time when the CV set was released.
But they have dozens and dozen of crap in stock. Also I've notice Walmarts cd collection section is shrinking down to one isle .and thats including the latino music section and the kiddie tunes section too.It looks like Itunes and Amazon are cutting in the big Walmart now.

There is no good record and cd shop in town no more so i have to see what Walmart will have on the 3rd.

tbaker3 04-21-2011 06:04 PM

I imagine Barnes and Noble will carry it. Their CD's are outragously priced... but if best buy isn't carrying it on release day (and I refuse to set foot in Walmart), I'll have to just bite the bullet.

markolas 04-21-2011 06:09 PM

Buying CDs in stores was always frustrating for me. 90% of the time, they wouldn't have what I wanted, and I remember having to look in this giant book and the store would have to order it for me. Then I'd have to endure the "You want to order that?" comments from the clerk behind the counter.

The Internet made everything so much easier. After that, I'd browse the racks at Barnes & Noble (they always had the best selection, even if they were the most expensive) or Best Buy if I was in there, but my days of taking a trip to the music store to look for CDs largely ended when I got online.

I understand the feeling about Walmart.

Wow! The most we get in our local HMV is Crystal Visions. Guess where I'll be heading in August when I'm in London for Hard Rock Calling?! lol

saintvox 04-21-2011 06:52 PM

I would have bought a copy of all those albums in that picture just because I don't have any hard copies. I have digital.

used karma 04-21-2011 07:47 PM

Everything about this release is very strange. No music video for the first single, no snippets on Amazon or Itunes. What gives?

I haven't followed Stevie for that long. Is there always such a lack of information, when it comes to an album release? Usually with artists of her caliber, there's a lot of promo at this point.

I was fan around the time Crystal Visions came out and it was about the same. She was on ET or something for a bit discussing it but no commercials or anything.

I wish there would be promo, and I'd love iTunes snippets. :wavey:

MacMan 04-21-2011 08:25 PM

Bestbuy will have it... Bestbuy in Canada is carrying it and it's available for preorder so I can't see why the US wouldn't...

GarboSpeaks! 04-22-2011 02:23 AM

TheWildHeart, what is that ast one in the last picture very bottom for 13pds. It looks like a box. I don't have that, I need it. What is it????????

I've followed Stevie for nearly two decades, and this release is indeed very cryptic. I don't know why they've refused to release the video which was recorded for Stevie's first single, Secret Love. That's just completely baffled me. Such a missed opportunity. :distress: Even Stevie's producer Dave Stewart has no idea what's going on in regards to why Warner Bros has not released the video.

Regarding no snippets on Amazon or iTunes, that's a bit odd as well. When you pre ordered Trouble In Shangri La back in '01, Warner Bros allowed access to snippets from all the songs on the album. I think the only snippets we got from Fleetwood Mac's Say You Will were leaked, though. All of Stevie's/Fleetwood Mac's other studio albums have occurred before the internet really came of age... so there's nothing else to compare In Your Dreams to. As to why Warner Bros isn't streaming snippets from In Your Dreams, it's either because 1) they are not willing to spend the money to set it up 2) Stevie really is being hardcore about keeping this album secret until release day.

This is the one thing that makes absolutely no ****ing sense! What are they waiting for? I don't care how good the music video is, once it gets here nobody is going to care. Had they thrown us the bone back in March, we would have creamed our pants and gushed over how amazing the video is. Once May rolls around tho, I think there will be a lot more critical views of the Secret Love video, because there is no way it will live up to the expectations and the headache of a ringer they've put us thru.

I was just in B&N today & they told me they're carrying it (at least in the Dallas area).

What's the CD beneath Street Angel? I've never seen that before, ever

I was at HMV at York with my friend yesterday, and they were stocking lots of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie CDs. I think this may be the Glee effect because they had The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac upfront + next to all the latest releases

LiquidDiamonds 04-22-2011 07:15 AM

It is available on the Best Buy site. It's only $9.99 for pre-order!

That's "Stevie Nicks - Live On Air". It's a HORRID quality audio from the US Fest performance. I think it's a direct rip from that god awful "Broadcasting Live" DVD. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Live-Air-Ste...474955&sr=8-14

HMV in York is SO quirky. It's so small but seems to have so much in it lol

I know it's completely irrelevant, but I have to say this to you....

I think it was ripped from somebodies old VHS or Betamax tape they had stored in their basement. This reminds me when I got some video boots out of the Goldmine paper back in the early 1990's.They probably were second or third generation copies.

Is this the same copy that has dropout at the end of "Gypsy".

steve59 04-22-2011 11:43 AM

"HMV in York is SO quirky. It's so small but seems to have so much in it lol"

Couldn't agree more. As I live in York I am not that spoilt for choice as to where I buy my music from as the local independent retailers have almost disappeared entirely from view due to hiked rent increases.

However, my query is, if her music is slowly gaining popularity on this side Atlantic why is the official release date in the UK nearly 2 full months behind the rest of the world.

Did I miss something?

Ok, this is more like it. And the price suggests that IYD will probably be featured in BB's May 1st Sunday newspaper pull out, promoting the sale price of IYD in it's new music release section.

Someone should change the name of this thread to Best Buy is selling IYD for 9.99
