Album Leak (false alarm!)

Was so on my way to bed until i saw this. is this legit?

http://albumleak.net/stevie-nicks-in-your-dreams-leak

Dodfather 04-21-2011 04:24 AM

I really, really hope not. Stevie has said over and over again that one of the reasons she is so adverse to technology and new forms of promotion is because things like this can happen. If the album has been leaked it will just confirm all her suspicions and may sour her on doing another album within the next few years!

louielouie2000 04-21-2011 04:28 AM

I'm betting that's a clever marketing trap. It demands all of this personal, private info and it won't let you trick it with fake phone numbers, etc. I'm sure as heck not giving out that info to some faceless website!

Genius idea if it's a marketing move!
Louie - your signature pic is awesome (you knew I;d like it though didn't you?!)

It appears the album is indeed out there if you know where to look.

Does that mean you got it to work?

This might be true if even obscure critics in Ohio have copies to review..but it seems like you still might have to be a computer geek to find it.

No, but I did a search and a ton of links came up. Most likely what is going on is that the album is shipping already and people who have the album (stock room people etc) are swiping a copy. OR if there are promo copies, those are being posted. I had the promo of TISL a month before the actual release.

BombaySapphire3 04-21-2011 09:10 AM

This album has had a much much tighter lid on it than TISL or SYW .I had a promo copy of TISL by the second half of March 2001 with no industry connections at all.It is getting down to the wire here though.

I kind of expected that with this album. Gone are the days of press packets being sent out with a copy of the album and press kits. Also Stevie isn't out promoting it prior to it's release so for all intents and purposes no one has a copy. But the timing is right for the album to making an appearence. I expected a week or so before it's release it would pop up online.

kak125 04-21-2011 09:25 AM

i tried the link and when i went to download it, something popped up telling me i had to do something else first so i just exited off the page. i am at work and dont want a virus on my computer - ha!

GoldDustBoy 04-21-2011 09:36 AM

I managed to download the "album", and it's packed in a password protected rar file. Does anyone know how to open the thing? I'll upload the file if anyone is willing to try to open it.

Thrown_Down 04-21-2011 09:38 AM

I don't think I would. It's either a virus or a red herring in my opinion, or else why make you jump through so many hoops to get it. I'm not convinced.

10milestereo 04-21-2011 09:43 AM

^The password protected rar file is a very common hoax. It's pretty safe to assume that any files asking for a password or a survey to be completed before access is a fake.

I found the same thing, but the site won't let me download the .rar file that contains the password unless I become a premium member or wait 30 minutes.

What is in there, if not the album? Just an empty folder? It says it was uploaded on 2/20/11, which seems really early - you'd think if it had leaked that early, more people would have it/know about it.

10milestereo 04-21-2011 09:46 AM

It most likely has a bunch of fake mp3 files that you can't access without a password anyway. There have been multiple rar files like this for the upcoming Kate Bush album.

I know that, but I'm desperate. :)

But how are they fake mp3 files? Just mp3 files that are dead air? Or did somebody record themselves saying "Sucker!" or something?

I don't know. I remember Madonna getting press for having recorded herself saying 'Stop stealing my f@^&*ing music' and uploading it to the internet just before her American Life album was released, so stranger things have happened.

RickRobert 04-21-2011 09:55 AM

I'm quite suprised it hasn't leaked actually, considering it's out in like two weeks.

Someone actually tried to "steal" that steaming pile of offal?!:lol:The ol' shyster should have instead been begging someone to sit through it.

Thrown_Down 04-21-2011 10:03 AM

^ Hey, I actually kinda liked that album, even though it was a bit sub-par. I'm fairly sure you weren't as keen, judging by your vivid description of it.

I can't stand her..never could but from what little I could stomach it was particularly bad.

Dead air or just a bunch of mp3s of previously released songs, which people who have no lives like to speed up and slow down and such. I don't know why people bother doing it, but they do.

Bandon 04-21-2011 10:32 AM

Didn't we have leaked tracks from TISL a few weeks before its release?

The radio stations should get their advanced copies of IYD anytime now and start playing tracks by this Friday. Thats my guess.

tristanbmusic 04-21-2011 10:42 AM

Do your computer a favour.
DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS.

The rar links NEVER work because it is impossible to ever get the password for them. Advertisement companies pay websites to set up these links so people will give them their emails, personal info, etc.
Stevie is being amazingly protective of the album, but expect it about a week before the release date should it ever leak. Torrent sites such as btjunkie or piratebay will have it by then should it even leak.
Stevie shouldn't worry about album sales because of that though. It seems Mr. Paul Simon did quite well on the charts even though his album was leaked a week before.
Fingers crossed.

skuncles 04-21-2011 10:47 AM

Nearly every major album released these days gets leaked prior to it's release. The question is do you want to take the risk of getting a possible virus by downloading them?

estranged4life 04-21-2011 10:48 AM

I would avoid the 'leak' downloads available online, nothing more than adware and phishing scams.

Btw, Just to humor myself, I just checked the 'leak' download file sizes (.mp3 format), definitely 'something' you don't want to download.

ryguy2010 04-21-2011 11:48 AM

Would someone please tell me what the rules are for album leaks are? Would it be legal to d/l since we pre-ordered and paid for the c.d? All the piracy stuff confuses me.

It's stealing ..and I am surprised how many of her ""FANS" are willing to do this , knowing how she feels about it. i don't understand the whole gimme attitude

Well ty for clarifying I just assumed it was legal as long as we purchased the album. I guess in retrospect it was naive of me to think so. But I believe us die hard junkies are just itching to hear ASAP

Yeah... I wonder how she feels about me purchasing four copies already beside the fact that I can hardly make both ends meet.

I'm sure accountant loves the fact you bought 4.

Why do you need 4 copies?

One for me, one for my mom, and one for each of my best friends. Shower the people you love with Stevie goodies I say. :)

I admire this. So for people that buy mult copies like u and others why would Stevie care about an early peak? To me it is sort of like a BOGO Free deal.

skuncles 04-21-2011 12:30 PM

I will end up with muliple copies as well, have for all of the albums. Even though I'd had the promo of TISL for at least a month before it was released, I still went out first thing to pick the album up. I don't buy them just to have a bunch of copies though there is always a reason why I have so many.
Speaking only for TISL, I ended up with two promo copies and two commercially released versions. One I bought the day of release, the other was the selection of the month for Columbia House Record Club and I let them send it as well, that one has never been opened only because I have no reason to open it. I have an unopened copy of Street Angel as well (for that album I have 2 commercial copies, 1 promo copy and 1 import version).

Because those fans have shelled out the $17-34 for the preorder and WB continually withdraws the money from their account on a whim before they shipped the product. Not to mention WB steals 40% of the revenue where Stevie only gets about 10% per album sold. Illegal pirating is not going anywhere, and despite the fact that record sales are down, tickets and merch are way up. The music industry as a whole is growing, but WB has iced Stevie's glass and filled it with their Kool-Aid. They have convinced her that the music industry is FAILING and filled her with fear, when actually the music industry is doing well, it is the fat cat record labels that are failing. With the current technology, artistd no longer need labels and it is time Stevie listened to the rain.

There is NOTHING wrong with a try-before-you-buy.Especially when you've pre-ordered.
I download illegally and always buy the albums I like on CD.I have eclectic taste and there is no way I'm buying hundreds of albums in one go.Only the best ones get purchased. And the artists I like.I'd never support the a$$hole artists that don't deserve it.

We all know that Stevie is disappointed by the album sales. I believe that if things were different, she wouldn't put out a new album every 10 years. Realizing that you are not the mega-giga-superstar you once were must hurt. I love her, and I love her music, so if I can help her feel better, like she did many times for me, I will. This is also the first time my mom showed some interest in Stevies music, and over the years I got so much beautiful music from my friends that it's just natural I bought a copy for them too.

well that put's it all in to prospective , I won't feel guilty downloading the copy I found and listening to it .
