Ha! Check out the below link. Anyone ever seen this before? It lists references and links to articles and interviews where she says that she used to smoke. We all knew that she did, but it's fascinating to see all of these examples that she 100% contradicts herself in the Harper's interview:
http://smokingsides.com/asfs/N/Nicks.html Oh, woman. Good thing our love for you transcends your (deliberate or not!) memory lapses! |

This woman so wants to rewrite history...or perhaps she really is batty from all the drug abuse:rolleyes: nonetheless Stevie must be counting on her fans having really short memories:shrug: And after the slew of interviews over the last decade until now, the contradictions and spinning of facts. I'm starting to think after all, maybe I don't want Stevie to write an autobiography:shocked:. Someone with serious writing cred needs to step up and write a true accounting of Stevie's life. I suspect neither will happen in Stevie's lifetime:cool:

what the hell? Does she think her fans don't know about her smoking? Hell, she helped ME stop smoking. I recall an interview where she said she stopped by thinking everytime she had a cigarette a doctor told her she would get cancer. Wonder where THAT interview is!!!

How about that, we landed on the same page at the same time on different sides of the world googling the same thing, crazy! haha As for the article..I dislike her combing through the same over & over..FM history, cocaine etc etc. I'm disappointed that she has to exaggerate so much too..does she think the truth isn't entertaining enough for readers or something? tsk tsk |

God bless Stevie's revisionism. There are more pics I can't currently find of her smoking, too. |

 Her lack of consistency is one of the reasons I adore her. We all know she's bull****ting, but she does it with such a conviction. It's as though she thinks if she says it often enough, it'll turn out to be true

"Well she sees no evil... Well, she’s in love! And he speaks no evil... She’s in love! I’m afraid they say anything to anyone..." |
She's smoking on film... The Tango in the Night concert vid - during a rehearsal scene.
|
Maybe she meant she didn't smoke crack.
|
I can't believe she ended this interview with " I never smoked"...oh wait, I can believe it. Maybe she really blocked those years out.
|
When did she start smoking?
If she only smoked during the Klonopin years, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and say she couldn't remember anything from that haze... but I'm pretty sure I heard about her smoking on the RAL tour. Oh Stevie. Also, I laughed out loud at the 'Ka-Ching, Ka-Ching'.... at least she acknowledges it, I suppose. |
Stevie said she started smoking during 1984 and the long recording of Rock A Little. She got off cigarettes in Late 1993 while detoxing off of Klonopin. She was smoke free in 1994, which explains her awesome Street Angel Tour voice.
Then in 1995, as she got slim again, she started smoking again. She quit again on December 31, 1996, when she said she got drunk and smoked "about 500 cigarettes", hoping to be hungover the next day to help her in not smoking. So, she smoked from 1984 through 1993, and then 1995 to the end of 1996. In trouble again for the wrong things... I didn’t know him, he didn’t know me There she goes again, and she says, “Do you think that this could be the one?” |
Not to mention in the EXACT GODDAMN INTERVIEW, just a mere 5 paragraphs earlier she says, "It was worse than brandy, coke, pot, and cigarettes combined. I had no energy. I lost my fire. I'd perform now and then, but mostly I sat on the couch, watched TV, and ordered Jerry's Deli."
Oh Stevie... |

So, I guess the real question is: is Stevie deliberately trying to rewrite history or does she seriously just have that bad of a memory (whether it be from the drugs or simply her innate tendency to hyperbolize, etc.)?
|
Sometimes I think people get a little too nitpicky and literal about comments Stevie makes. "Oh my god, she said 'Wild Heart' came out in 1984, but it was 1983!!! This woman totally makes things up!!!"
But this is definitely one of those cases where Stevie either had a complete & total memory lapse, or realllllly hopes we're not keeping score. lol. |

That said, I think it would be awfully hard to forget that you smoked for nine years! |
Her memory may be foggy about smoking, But she remembers the dress from the Purple Rain premiere that the brunette girl is wearing in the trailer for the album.
I would really like to hear more about what exactly happened between her and Prince, this is the first interview I've read where she elaborates instead of just saying "he walked out of my life". Imagine if Prince and Stevie actually did record and release more songs together in the 80's, they could have been a powerhouse. |
Shall we all turn to page 29 of "Everything You Want To Know About Stevie Nicks," by Ethlie Ann Vare and Ed Ochs? Read along, with me, the quote at the bottom of the page:
MTV: You once said you were a witch. Stevie Nicks: I lied. ;) |
^ LOL

Here we go again....LEAVE MY GIRL ALONE!
Let's see how good all of you guys memories are at 62 and she's got more than the average person to remember. And so what if she lies sometimes and knows it? She's Stevie, she gets to do that. |

On the Unleashed tour I think one of those teleprompter directives were as literal as "Go To Tent" - meaning to go to her little change area behind Mick. |
That is freakin HIGH-larious!!
|
I think she is trying to avoid admitting she has had any work done. Nobody who puts their body through the kind of abuse she has can end up 63 year old woman without one line on her face.
I could tell she was dodging that question when Oprah asked. |

However, I have to agree that unless Stevie really is a witch or just defies mother nature or something... it's absolutely unheard of for someone with nearly 2 decades of excessive drug use under their belts to look so naturally spectacular at her age. But then sometimes I think that it's all just lighting and make-up and that she really hasn't had much done. Her eyes are mainly what makes me think that but who knows. |
That "sly grin" she made when she said she never smoked is very telling.
What she is inferring is that, while she was never a cigarette smoker (although she went through a brief period with that), she indulges in pot. Not surprising. Stevie and Lindsey are essentially rich hippies from the sixties. My dream is to smoke pot with Stevie, Lindsey, Woody Harelson, Willy Nelson, Snoop Dog, and ???...all gathered together. Good times!;) |
As long as In Your Dreams is smokin' when we get it I don't give a fukc.
|
"Nicks was able to improve her vocal range by kicking a three-pack-a-day cigarette habit in 1998. 'I opened my eyes and my ears to all the miseries of smoking. I read magazine articles and if a TV commercial about cancer came on, I turned it up in surround sound. The night before I quit, I literally made myself sick. I drank a bottle of brandy and I smoked two cartons of cigarettes. The next morning when I woke up feeling terrible, I put on the [nicotine] patch. I haven't smoked since'", Cleveland (OH) Plain Dealer, Jul. 15, '01
what the hell how does someone smoke two cartons of cigarettes in a day? |
