Gold & Braid Appreciation Thread
I think this song is absolutely fantastic, and I rediscovered it after it popped up on my itunes shuffle today.
I love the whole idea behind this song, how it was never used on an album (other than enchanted) but was performed back in '81, which sounded absolutely fantastic. I love almost everything about this song, and it really is one of my favorites, even though I had forgotten it for so long. Anyone agree with me? |
I love Gold & Braid. One of my absolute favorites, and I'll never understand how it never made it to an album (aside from Enchanted).

I very much enjoy this song musically... it's bopping and fun. But lyrically? I place it in the same self-congratulatory, disingenuously sappy, overly-inflated ego bin as I do the entire Wild Heart album. It'd be a cute, fun little song if I could get over the vapid lyrics. :)

But I love the lyrics: "You see a pathway ending with a doorway You slip toward the doorway Been waiting there all day All these years" |

I have always loved this song Chris. Long before you were born this was a regular staple on my boombox but now I'd be content to just sit on your lap and listen to it through one of your earbuds while you listen to it through the other one.:xoxo:
P.S. don't hide behind Jilly's hair |

All I know is the Enchanted version. To me, it's her most Motown song.
|
I love the song, and love to do the a** dance in the middle. My fave version is from the HBO special.
|
Great song. Anybody know when it was written?
|
Isn't there a youtube video of some Ledgies doing the dance??

I have never forgotten this and probably never will. When I search Gold and Braid on youtube, this is always one of the top results. I'm glad my posture is better. :D ....and as for the song...it's amazing. |
That was a classic.. I even think Stevie would be proud.. so funny when you both threw the cardboard tambo's at the same time, at friends behind the camera:D

Wow. You DA MAN. You had quite a harem in that hotel room that night. Did you behave yourself? |

You also nailed one of Stevie's more... distinctive dances. Seriously, too good. |
Wow

About 3 1/2 years ago... a friend and myself who often did the same exact thing at work, saw this video and laughed our asses off... Then we got pissed that we never thought to put ours on Youtube lol... |

Marriage status, nationality and I am sure on some drunken nights, sexual preferences, NEVER stopped Stevie Nicks! |

That could be a good joke. "A married woman, a lesbian and a Canadian walk into a hotel bar...." |
Love G&B. I have a couple of outtakes where she's talking about Orson Welles, and one where there's kind of an echo-y voice effect at the beginning which I don't like, but it's the closest thing to a finished studio version I've ever heard. If somebody has one that's closer, I'd love to hear it. :)

Wait.....Stevie Nicks has gay fans??? ;) heh
|
Let me see if I can figure out this mediafire thing and I'll post them.
|
Let me know if these links work:
Gold & Braid (Orson Welles outtake) Gold & Braid (War of the Worlds outtake) Gold & Braid ("vocal mix") - this is the echo-y voice one. |

Not knowing the conversation they were having, the Orson Welles/War of the Worlds references are pretty random. :p The double tracked vocals on the vocal mix one are weird. Glad she took the 'wisdom of old' line out too. Sounded unnatural. |
