Lindsey Says New Album is Completed
By Dean Goodman, April 12, 2011 Reuters
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/...ertainmentNews Lindsey Buckingham gearing up for new album, tour (Reuters) - Fleetwood Mac frontman Lindsey Buckingham has finished work on his third solo album in six years, a project he expects to release in September and promote with a tour. The album, "Seeds We Sow," will also be his first outside the Warner Bros. family. Buckingham told Reuters that he was unhappy with its handling of his solo projects, and he was now considering teaming up with a new label or going the DIY route with an independent promotion team. Fleetwood Mac is also a free agent after more than 40 years at Warner Bros., Buckingham said. The Anglo-American rock icons last released an album in 2003 and were the ninth biggest touring act in 2009 with U.S. ticket sales of $55 million, according to Pollstar. Buckingham, 61, said Fleetwood Mac will continue to tour and record. Given classic-rock audiences' disdain for hearing new music in concert, he said he enjoys the creative challenge of giving old favorites a new sheen on stage. Despite a busy family life, Buckingham has also been on a creative tear in his solo career, releasing albums in 2006 and 2008, and touring to promote both of them. Before then, he had not released a solo album since 1992's "Out of the Cradle." Coincidentally, he said "Seeds We Sow" will be similar in tone to "Out of the Cradle," which received a rapturous critical response but was a relatively poor seller. ANOTHER STONES COVER The title track opens the album. "I don't think anyone's gonna take that for a radio song because it's just voice and acoustic guitar and there's a lot of that on the record," he said. "It runs the gamut. There's some lead playing, there's a little bit of everything on there." As he did on 2006's "Under the Skin," he covers an obscure Rolling Stones song, this time "She Smiled Sweetly" from the band's 1967 album "Between the Buttons." He previously reworked their 1966 tune "I Am Waiting." Buckingham said he was a fan of the Stones' experimental recordings with original leader Brian Jones, an ill-fated virtuoso with whom he shares a musical versatility. He recorded "Seeds We Sow" at his home studio in Los Angeles, playing most of the instruments and mixing it himself while fulfilling his obligations as the married father of three preteens. While there is no theme to the album, his late-in-life domesticity inevitably means songs "get filtered through looking at the world a little differently, perhaps a little more philosophically." Buckingham will take a break from laying the groundwork for the album when he appears at the annual ASCAP "I Create Music" Expo for musicians and songwriters in Hollywood on April 29. His Q&A with pop singer Sara Bareilles will follow the presentation of the performing rights group's Golden Note Award for career achievement. "Maybe I'll take a guitar and a little amp and do a little picking on stage," he said. But he warned attendees not to ask him technical questions related to publishing and licensing. And maybe not to tax him too much with tips for songwriting. "I don't really think of myself so much as a writer as a stylist, someone who came into writing from the back door and has found it through a certain very specific and personal means. It's all about what you do with the style. Hopefully I'll have something good to say. We'll see." (Editing by Jill Serjeant) |

So, I gather Lindsey is looking for a label. Michele |
Thank you so much for catching this and sharing! :woohoo:
I'm excited to see we'll finally get an official release for "She Smiled Sweetly"... I always liked his recording of this! I am assuming, like the last 2 albums, that this will be the same recording as was done during the original Gift of Screws sessions. |

With all the clamor over Stevie's new album, I was hoping for an update on Lindsey's. I adore all of his solo albums (I'm not sure I'm exactly in love with Go Insane...might have to give it another listen), especially these last two. Very anxious to hear this one.

and that FM is not on WB anymore either. |
I am SO happy that "She Smiled Sweetly" will be on this album. SO great to hear that this will be similar to OOTC. Awesome news, can't wait.

I wonder if we'll finally get the long-awaited (by me, anyway) studio version of "My Little Demon"? Quote:

I'm thrilled to hear Lindsey will be touring behind this one, and he and Fleetwood Mac have left Warner Bros! I hope Fleetwood Mac stays far, far away from Warner Bros... they have been SO lackadaisical in promoting Lindsey's, Fleetwood Mac's, and Stevie's new albums the past 10 years. I hope Lindsey is right that FM will keep recording, too. I'm also thoroughly intrigued Lindsey compares his new album to Out Of The Cradle... I'm more excited than ever for this project!!

Exciting stuff indeed :D cannot wait! Hopefully we will be hearing some clips in the coming months.

Since we'd gotten the UTS comparison in the past, to hear that it's similar to OOTC was a suprise to me too -- and a very welcome one. I'm excited.

So it's looking a dead cert that I'll get my trip to America and Lindsey treat at the end of this year. I'm so excited! And intrigued by the idea of Lindsey's album being reminiscent of Out of The Cradle. Especially considering the grape vine consensus seemed to be Under The Skin.

Well I got all sorts of sh*t to look forward to now. Lindsey and Stevie releasing records. And lionsgate releasing the rest of Boy Meets World. I'm in heaven:thumbsup::cool:

This is all too much to take! But I'll take it... Love OOTC and can't imagine how he can compare just voice and guitar on this to that... but he said it's a real mixed bag so we'll see... Happy to hear he'll be out on the road. His show was one of the best sounding experiences I'd ever had at a live show.

I'm really trying to be happy for Lindsey... but it kinda makes me sad that he is homeless and wondering what to do with himself. :distress: Same with FM. Fleetwood Mac and Warner Brothers is like the Beatles and EMI or Led Zeppelin and Atlantic. They are just so inextricably linked that it pains me to hear that FM, if they ever record another album, may have to go indie or to some B-list label like Nonesuch or Rhino. I mean, think of one artist/band that thrived after going from a major to an indie.
My gut tells me that Lindsey pretty much has no choice but to release it himself. No other majors will touch him, and any interested indie would not be able to afford him. |

"Out of the Cradle" is my favorite Lindsey CD, actually one of my favorite CDs of any artist. To me, it's his "Bella Donna."

Ugh, Louie, you said it ALL with your praise of OOTC. That album is a masterpiece of epic proportions. I could never compare it to Bella Donna. As a whole Out Of The Cradle is such a work of peerless art and beauty that can be played endlessly without tire. It is gorgeous, infectious, pure music. It is the kind of stuff dreams are made of. OOTC is the album you hand a close friend from out of town to remember you with. It's the kind of music you play on a long car drive, while jogging by the beach, in an airplane- I have done all of this while listening to it.
It's an utter gem and, imo, the greatest Fleetwood Mac related thing there is. I don't think if he tried hard enough it could be touched. It's hard to make that kind of perfect in one lifetime, but anything remotely near would be breathtaking in my book. |
Well this is great news. I've seen Lindsey everytime he's toured and if he comes in my area I will for sure see him again.

Guys, it's a great, great time to be a Fleetwood Mac fan. I've never seen Lindsey solo and I'm SUPER stoked for the opportunity in the future. |

I remember when I was going through my depression and I needed a lift OOTC was the one album I turned to. not Bella Donna or Wild Heart, OOTC. with the exception of Street of Dreams, that album put me in the BEST frame of mind. It's peerless. To this day when I get the rare bout of depression. I grab my wife and on goes OOTC. So thank you Lindsey. For making my escape album. A beautiful piece of work:nod:

Squeeeeeee similar to OOTC?!?!?!?! YES!!! That is my favourite album of all time. Nico, I LOVE what you said about it...I have done all of those things to that album too, in fact, it basically lived with me during a very difficult time in my life...it got me through. It's just an incredible album, and the fact that he's comparing this one to it makes me even more excited than I already was!!
Re: Warner Bros, I'm SO glad to hear he's not with them anymore. He'd been unhappy there for a long time, and they did NOT treat him well. (I had the luxury of overhearing a conversation with a WB exec once, after a show...yikes.) I'd love to see him go with Nonesuch, they seem to be decent to their artists in terms of creativity, at least. Natalie Merchant released her last album with them, completely on her terms, and she toured behind it as well...I'm assuming they didn't make her pay for the entire thing, as WB did to Lindsey. I'm glad to hear he's also considering releasing it on his own though... I get the feeling that since he's saying it will be out in September, he's probably already talked to some labels, and if he doesn't like what they say he'll put it out himself. Whatever--just as long as it gets released in Canada, I'm happy, lol! He may not get the major marketing, etc, that a big label could provide... But they didn't provide it anyway, so hey, he can only go up from there! Actually, I have been thinking lately that there's already more buzz and news about this thing than there ever was with his last 2 albums on WB. To sum it up: YAYYYYY!!!! :] |
I was at a turning point in my life when OOTC was released. Things were starting to look up and it was the perfect album for me at the time, and my absolute favorite Lindsey album. " I'm just waiting on the countdown...things are about to turn around...and now I'm out of the lost and found...just waiting on the countdown..."

Great to have some new info! I plan on seeing him on his tour this year, if he swings by Dallas or somewhere close.
