Stevie Nicks Called in LIVE Tonight to NYC Radio Station Q104.3 - Here's The Interview

Stevie Nicks called in live tonight April 3rd to NYC radio station Q104.3 New York's Classic Rock

Stevie spoke with Jonathan Clarke over the phone, the interview is about 13 minutes long. Stevie touches on more of the recording process for "In Your Dreams" with Dave calling the whole process "the time of her life" and she wanted to cry when it was over. Talked about the documentary which Dave is "as we speak" continuing to edit... mentions that 4 videos are filmed plus how in November she called in Lindsey to help out on Soldier's Angel because with the band they just couldn't make it better then the demo she recorded and she was NOT putting out this album unless Soldiers Angel was on it. Dave and Glenn Ballard recorded Lindsey and Stevie live at her house, while being filmed. She also talks about what Secret Love is about and playing the great Madison Square Garden... Good interview!

"I did Bella Donna, then I went back to Fleetwood Mac. I did Wild Heart, and then I went back to Fleetwood Mac..."

Umm no you didn't. What happened to RAL?! Other than her usual mistakes with time, I loved this interview! I especially love when people ask her about an autobiography, I just wish she would stop saying "Oh la dee da, some day!!!" Bitch, some day you are going to be dead.

Yeah I know. At least the interviewer said he loved the album too.

Phoenix 04-04-2011 12:03 AM

That was a nice interview. I LOVE hearing her talk about Secret Love, that part where she talks about that moment. and the continuing on about that moment and how you could or you shouldnt, and how you have to consider the consequences. I really get that. And its beautiful. I like hearing the "we already passed it i cried" explanation, its validating that that is what I thought she meant, and what I got from it when I first heard it.

SIDENOTE: TONIGHT I HEARD SECRET LOVE ON THE RADIO FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Yeah, really, so she didn't do anything with the Mac between 'TWH' or 'RAL' . geez...

This was a really cool interview!

I want to see the videos!:blob2:

Very enjoyable interview. Thanks for posting.

louielouie2000 04-04-2011 12:31 AM

Aww, I loved hearing Stevie say "It kicked @ss!" :D I have to agree... her performances of "Passion" with Rod Stewart are really fantastic. And I admit it... I just love hearing elderly Stevie curse, too.

And wow... she admitted talking about politics with Dave. Something about that kinda surprised me. And the mention that the president and everyone needs "some passion" right now. Very interesting. Stevie ALWAYS stays away from politics. She's sounding spunky... I likey!

I also appreciate how though that Stevie is uplifting Dave the entire time, she also basically calls Lindsey her savior for the record. That only he could transfer Soldier's Angel from demo to reality. I like it when she admits Lindsey still is a musical soulmate for her. I must admit, her bashing him the past several years has become quite tiresome.

Good interview, thanks for sharing!

Uh oh... I sense a sordid tale for the TMI thread! :p

Josh2003 04-04-2011 12:36 AM

As soon as I heard her say something about writing 7 songs with Dave and pulling "five from the vault," I immediately imagined the ****storm that would be erupting over here as people try to figure out which songs might be the "vault" songs, as though everything Stevie says has a literal meaning.

THANK YOU! She just said she went right back to Fleetwood Mac after Wild Heart in that interview... so that alone negates being able to take anything she says in that (or any) interview at literal face value. She flubs and says dumb stuff... and often time changes the story of that dumb stuff from interview to interview. "Don't listen to her, listen through her" folks!

Not to mention she also said, "We wrote seven songs and then pulled five songs out of all the vaults so we had our 13 songs!!!" 7+5=12 :laugh:

The link won't work for me because I live outside the US, but I'm interested in what SN said about the 'we already passed it I cried' line in 'Secret Love'.

Can anybody summarise it, please?

TrueFaith77 04-04-2011 07:50 AM

This interview is full of  and  moments. I don't even know where to begin--and at some points I wanted to ask michelej1 to translate.

I love this woman:

- "The President needs some passion!"
- "My hands off to Lindsey" How is THAT for a freudian malapropism
- I STILL can't tell if she is saying: "saved" or "safe" but it was  that she basically recited and analyzed the song--which already arguably contains her clearest narrative lyrics ever
- She compares her dinner soirees to The Lost Generation in Paris in the 20s... moments after (or before) referencing Risky Business (and describing it almost shot by shot).
- "We all know all the words to 'Passion'" -- Stevie, nobody knows the words to "Passion"-- not even, based on the MSG show, Rod Stewart!

OMG: I don't mean to ruffle feathers, but all I want the documentary to be is a real-time capturing of the recording of "Soldier's Angel" from the phone call to Stevie sitting alone listening to the finished product--meditating on the valor of her first love.

Also, very excited to find out on which songs Mick Fleetwood played.

I think the RAL controvery is being overstated. She's pretty on spot in her description.

BD - M
WH/RAL - TITN
OTOSOTM - BTM
SA - The Dance
TISL - SYW
IYD - ???????????????????

Interestingly, what this illustrates is that chiliD is on to something about the impact of Stevie's solo career on FM. Without waiting on her--not always prolific--solo career, they might have recorded more albums. For all her "hands off" slips-of-the-tongue, she is in charge.

jrpjr 04-04-2011 07:59 AM

"4 videos" already done??? i gotta see these...by the looks of the trailer...looks like it could very well b 4...but i bet we'll never see all 4...4??!! thats more than she's done for the 7 albums she has out already...makes little sense to me...but i do hope..the "teaser" looks like would all b great videos...i often wonder why in Gods green earth she never did a video for BATB...that could have been epic w/the video producer that does Meatloafs videos..bonnie tyler's "total eclipse..." cant u see an epic video for this song?? i think that would have been a HUGE commercial hit if promoted w/an epic video...rambeling...sorry

Classic Stevie! I love when she mashes everything up like that. She has a magpie mind that steals bits from everywhere and then makes something new. She's incapable of snobbery, too, which I think is a great asset in anyone.

Does anyone think it's possible to make this podcast into a download that we non-US Ledgies could hear? Pretty please? :wavey:

"Elderly" ??

I know Stevie's not exactly young, but I think calling her elderly is a little severe. At least in my mind, elderly is like, 75+ years old - not 62.

hmm...I guess I am the only one who really sees no "passion" in that duet they do together, I think it sounds totally awkward, jus' sayin' :)

I am happy that Mick is playing on more than one track. He did a great job on 'Sable on Blond'.

Yes, Stevie can be endearingly wacky, eccentric and overdramatize her recollections. But you're taking that little second in this interview wayYY too seriously. Stevie was generalizing to illustrate a bigger truth, which in general as TrueFaith77 posted is what actually really happened.

henryscutter 04-04-2011 11:21 AM

seriously she really needs to put some thought into what the anal retentive peeps on this board are gonna say before she does one of many radio interviews :D
I think people are missing the big picture. She is excited about making NEW music. I think that is what her die hard fans want more than concerts or rehashing Rumours/greatest hits projects. I hope this album does whatever it takes (goes platinum or earns grammy or what Stevie would consider success) to keep this PASSION burning and we get a bunch more Stevie and Mac music.

Christopher 04-04-2011 11:53 AM

Besides the KBCO radio interview, this is the 2nd most exciting radio interview Stevie has yet to do. I love that she sounds so passionate. Her excitement is palatable and overflowing. She hasn't been this excited and animated about a record since the early 80's I'd reckon. And thats saying tons, because Stevie was very thrilled with TISL in the press, before and after its release. When SYW came around, you could tell Stevie was not amused, from her body language and caginess in interviews upon that release and tour.

My big take away from this interview is that Stevie in her own very cunning way, has linked Fleetwood Mac to this record very intentionally. Mick, as reported last year, played on @6 songs during the June/July-ish studio sessions, and Lindsey was apparently the only one *in her mind* who could save "Soldier's Angel", when in fact Stevie herself said in previous interviews "they" could not beat the beautiful demo of the song she had already recorded. So I'd speculate Stevie's grand plan was to have Mick and Lindsey cozy up to Dave, hoping they'd get a glimpse of the magic she saw & felt with him, as reference for a future FM studio record.;)
It's also wonderful to hear the DJ practically gush that In Your Dreams sounds like a hit & congratulate her on the album sounding great! As well as him tell her to put out some more...and her reply "Alright...I will"! :D

Excactly who gives a flyin fig about small inaccuricies, this is all so fresh and exciting. It seems Dave has really inspired her creativity. From what I have heard of the new music, I would be more than ok with Dave producing a new Mac cd. As a bonus he would film it, promote it, and have it done in a timely manner.

ragrsrocalot 04-04-2011 12:52 PM

:thumbsup:Stevie is having " the time of her life ". That's enough for me. I'm psyched for this album, tour, doc. videos, radio shows, TV apperances, and what ever else has been thrown, or will be thrown our way. Her footwear, stage clothes, makeup, sequencing, set list, tour partner, time span between albums, is all her choice. It is not expected, and so for all of this to be happening again is awesome. Hearing Stevie say how happy, exciteded, and thrilled she is about her new project is what makes it worth it. As a fan of FM & Stevie since 75, I am grateful to have been able to enjoy the ride for this long. So to have all this stuff to look forward to is a gift, everything else is gravy. Thank you Stevie.

Bryan 04-04-2011 01:01 PM

love hearing her say

That she's had such a great experience recording this album.
But you just know if it tanks she'll backtrack and be branding it the lowest point in her career, seems to be her way

In strict accuracy, Fleetwood Mac did have some sessions together in 1985 before Rock A Little was finally released in November. These were with Bernard Edwards of Chic (right, or Nile Rodgers? Not both), and things didn't gell and they all went their separate ways again, until early 1986. Mick's book mentions this, as well as some Tango interviews. So, while Stevie was endlessly recording Rock A Little, she did do some work with Fleetwood Mac.

Technically, Stevie is sorta right.

I just can't believe Stevie talking about this is making every single statement in the interview a "lie".
