The Power of Fans
I cannot believe that Stevie will be on Oprah. Never in a million years could I ever see Oprah putting her on her show. I was wrong. And it is all thanks to the RealStevieGains twitter guy. It just amazes me what we fans can do when we put our minds to it.
I had a strange experience last year. When rumours started circulating that Stevie was making an album with Dave Stewart, I emailed PerezHilton. To my suprise, I got an email the next day from him asking how I knew this, so I emailed him the stuff from Dave's site. All of a sudden it was on his Perez's and he has been keeping with all the Stevie stuff. I'm from Columbus, Ohio for god's sake. The internet is an amazing thing. It puts us in contact with the big wigs. Now I'm trying to think up new things for Stevie. |

I knew Oprah would never have Stevie by herself for the entire hour but I am completely baffled by the addition of Pat Benetar, Sister Sledge etc...this mix makes no sense at all.

Anyway, The way the songs the flowed and the way her voice sounded were terrific. I have never seen her do that since. The critic from the Columbus Dispatch who rarely likes any concert even said that she was great a put on a great rock concert. She was in Columbus for Enchanted release, the WNCI party (Cher never showed.) the Dance and Say You Will and I hope she comes back (although I sorta wish she would just record.) Enchanted was neat because she sang Aflter the Glitter and Garbo, songs she rarely sings. The Dance was nuts. Some guy behind me kept trying to talk with an English accent and was yelling "You Blimey Bitttchh," trying to imitate Christine McVie. He was sooooo drunk and the place was a mad house. It was wall to wall people. Anyway, I don't know fans in Columbus. There are lots of fans in Southeast Ohio where I grew up though. So yeah, it would be great to meet up for a concert. No one really shares my excitement about her or Fleetwood Mac. I do think she likes Ohio. And after all, the Buckeyes rule. |

In August 1996, Stevie performed at the Polaris in Columbus, OH. I drove all the way from Dallas for that concert! And it was fantastic! "Gold Dust Woman" and "Twisted" were so freakin' incredible that night...
It was a benefit concert with other bands, like Voice Of The Beehive and KC & The Sunshine Band, and Stevie was the final performer. She had just signed with Reprise for her new contract (only owing one final release for Atlantic, which would be the boxed set), had just taken beautiful new photos by Neal Preston, and she was ready to come back! |

Her career was at a low and she just gave us a great show like a trooper. |

I was also at the Ohio State fair show. She sang a couple of lines of the "At The Fair" demo. Thats the best Stevie concert Ive ever been to. I saw her in Cleveland that tour too. |

That August 1996 concert was so much fun! We met up with a LOT of my Stevie Buddies... Drank a LOT from the Beers Of The World!!!!!
I just remember people were mostly roaming around, drinking during the afternoon of Voice Of The Beehive and the rest (who else?). People started sitting down for KC... and then... Stevie!!!!! The place was packed and people were SCREAMING for her!!!!!! Stevie was on fire that night! Some friends of mine were her special guests backstage; one of them was the guy she partially wrote "Touched By An Angel" about. It was one of the best nights (and trips!) of my life! Yay, Columbus '96!!! |

Is there any audio from either of the shows (Columbus State Fair 94, Columbus WNCI 96 Show) floating around out there??? |
I used to have both 1994 & 1996 on cassette, but my cassettes are lost or in Limbo somewhere. I remember being so excited about listening to that bit of "At The Fair" and Stevie talking about writing it.
My now~ex Eric & I drove from Dallas over a few days! We stopped in Texarkana the first night, spent the next night in Louisville (where Eric is from), and that Saturday morning we drove to Cleveland, to meet up with out friends who were Stevie's special guests. We then went to Columbus, got a motel, ate at the Pizza Hut in north Columbus, and then headed for the Beers Of The World!!! And Stevie! We could tell this was the beginning of Stevie's "comeback", and it was so cool to be there as part of it, experiencing it! |
Another Ohioan here. It was funny when Marissa (LikeAWillow) visited me a few weeks ago and said she was so surprised how often Stevie/Fleetwood Mac is played on the radio. I hear her almost on a daily basis. Ohio loves Stevie.
Unfortunately I was too young for the Street Angel and '96 shows. It would have been amazing to see her at the State Fair. If anyone has the audio of this, please post it. |
